Can Tomatoes that aren't in a metal can. Mason jar yrs but nothing tomatoes in a metal can. Trust me, I know. I've eaten Chef Boyardee chicken tortellini, I could only eat half the contents of the can and my mouth tasted like metal for 2 weeks. The can was 12 yrs past expiry. I still eat expired canned food or almost anything that is expired without problems but I try to stay away from anything tomato in a can. Canned tomatoes in a mason jar is completely different.

@yrly59e5 жыл бұрын
Spaghetti sauce (non meat marinara types) will last years past expiration. Keep it in a cool dark basement. Boxed cereals are packaged in nitrogen and will last two years or more after expiration if not opened. They go stale much more quickly though once you do open them since the BHT and such used as preservatives are past their prime by then. Keurig K cups are also nitrogen sealed and will last 3 years or more past best buy date. Same goes for Flavia packs, they’re vacuum sealed in foil and last years. Instant coffee will last decades if its a glass jar. Maple Syrup can actually be used if it goes moldy, scoop the mold off the surface bring back to boil and it’s good to go, it’s probably the only food you can do it with but it is because it’s basically pure sugar so the mold just sits on the surface.

Honey! 🍯 I've recently learned that if I put my pecans in a jar of pure, preferably wildflower honey, they will stay good indefinitely. But you have to completely cover the pecans. You just give it an extra inch or so on the top. Which is great because I've picked up 1 1/2 tubs of paper shell pecans. They're 18 quart tubs too. Does anyone want free pecans in Tulsa Oklahoma?

The liquor stuff is nonsense. I've served 30 year old scotch. I've served 150 year old Gran Marnier, and a multitude of 20+ year old Scotches, Bourbons, tequilas, rums, etc.. Liquor is in a permanent stasis, assuming it's in an airtight glass bottle. From the time it's bottled, to whenever you pour it, it's the same thing. The ageing process ends when it comes out of the cask. A lot of product is bottled straight from the still. In the end, it's mostly ethanol and water, regardless the product, it's naturally preservative, because of the ethanol... maybe with the exception of low-alcohol cream based stuff like Irish cream, but I've found old bottles of Bailey's that were fine to drink, FAR past the "expiration" suggested here. Basically, if you screw the cap back on tight, it's not going to oxidize or evaporate in any significant way, it's good forever.

Any canned food where the can is not bulged, punctured or otherwise defective is good for decades. People used to know this... Canned food is heated and vacuum sealed. The dates on cans are arbitrary "use by" or "best by" dates put on by the manufacturer. "Contrary to what most people think (or are led to think), there are NO federal laws about expiration dates on food. The only exception is for infant formula, which is required to have an expiration date." While it is true that your food may lose some flavor or some of the nutritional content after years or decades of storage but it is still edible. But how do I know if the can is defective? Well, there's a simple test for that and it's called common sense. If you open an old can of food and it smells rank then don't eat it. However, feel free to believe what you want!

Sugar does not expire if you keep it dry. It does not even loose sweet taste of it. Same thing with salt. Most of the canfood lasts 5-20 years or even more. How ever it depends mostly by the materials of the can and what is in side of the can. I had fruit cocktail that was in tin can and the can started to rust from the inside and started to form small holes through the can and of course messed my cabinet paper etiquette keeped that can whole and did not let air inside of the cam so there were no mold inside the can and fruits didn´t smell bad but those were all black becouse of the rust. Rust doesn´t even do red if there are no oxygen so it was interesting to open that can and look whit i could find inside.
