I'm so glad you've chosen to do a video of this! I grew up on the moulsecoomb estate and myself cousins and brother all went to school with them. I remember the fear when it happened we wasn't allowed out to play not even in our back garden, the assembly we held at school for the sponsored walks to raise money for a minibus and have both their names written on the side of the bus. It was a time in my life I remember well and my first first realisation that the world wasn't as safe as first thought! After this happened I was never allowed past a certain point on my street, still feels strange that I have such strong memories but it's as though it happened to someone else. I am the father of a teenage daughter , & i remember this case as well . It is so very sad . I do think they should bring back a death penalty for child murderers / sex offenders . I'm in the U.S., so I'm not familiar with this tragedy. Thank you for sharing the memories of these two friends. I was incredibly touched seeing the memorial for them in the cemetery. It appears they are interred next to each other, & if so, that's literally bringing tears to my eyes as I type... 💕😢

I remember this with such clarity for a number of reasons. I'm from Brighton and vaguely knew Russell Bishop's mother because she was a quite successful dog trainer and I showed my dogs then - although she specialised in obedience and I showed my dogs in breed classes. I had to go to Moulescoomb for something to do with work the day after Nicola and Karen were found and it still chills me to think of it. A place which was usually a fairly cheerful working class estate, teeming with children running around and playing, was still and silent. No children to be seen, just knots of grim faced adults quietly standing and talking. This was a terrible crime. Everyone knew the who the culprit was but the police messed up and another child paid the price, not to mention the grief of the girls parents being intensified by the lack of justice for their girls. I don't live in Brighton now but if I go back and drive past Wild Park, I still think of them. It was a good day when Russell Bishop left this earth.

I've been avoiding this particular episode due to the fact whenever something tragic happens to a child it affects me very hardly. Maybe that's because when I was a child staying in foster care I was sexually assaulted. But today I decided to finally check this one out. Not gonna lie..it was a tough one to watch but you did it with such respect an care that I got to commend you on that. It's almost difficult for me to give this one a thumbs up based on me feeling it would be disrespectful towards those beautiful young girls. This heart breaking story has never left my mind & I remember seeing 1 of the girls Mums absolutely frantic on the news. I think it has stayed fresh in my mind as it was A couple of days before my 15th Birthday & although very young I had just gave Birth to A little girl & the thought of losing her filled me with such panic & anxiety. I often visit the hundreds of war graves there , I found a VC on a tucked away grave and his story is unbelievable not for his VC but for what he did after the war. Those young girls graves are amongst rows of children’s graves , it’s certainly a sad and depressing part of the cemetery. On the other side I found the grave of a Mr and Mrs Death, the poor things must have dreaded everyday.

I believe the name originates from Suffolk, although my grandfather was from Paddington, London. (born in 1900). De'Ath / De'Arth is a total affectation - in fact, it makes no sense in the French language as there would not be a letter "e".

This is my first time hearing about this case. How haven't I heard about this before? It has a striking resemblance to the Soham murders. You're research on this very thorough. Your video is also very respectful to victims and families. It beggers belief as to why people are capable of such horrendous crimes. Oh Paul you shouldn’t have to apologise on behalf of men! Remember things like this hits the news because it’s rare. I had a friend who was murdered at the age of 12 and by her father. Not a day goes by when I still think about her. You never get over it. Very well put together in such a delicate subject.

I’m sorry about your friend. On the subject of it being rare, for children in this way maybe, but there are many many cases of children being murdered by parents or older women being battered to death by husbands or ex partners and honour ki**ings that never hit the national news. It’s sad that he felt he had to apologise for men, and there are many women who do such things, but as a victim myself I know from statistics that there’s a high proportion of men that commit these crimes compared to women. They are more widespread than you think.

I was 20years old and had just lost my twin brother Jim on 7/9/86 to a drunk army captain, who killed him because of drinking to the early hours of the morning and deciding to drive. He was going so fast, that the wind turned the army truck and trailer on its side. Being already in a dark place, what happened to these two babes such finished me off. Their families waited far too long for justice to happen and another child was hurt because of incompetence. All these things should be recorded so that no one can back out at a later stage, so that the court can see there was no intimidation like some lie and say. They need to triple check that they have got all the correct facts so that they can't get off because of blunders. I wonder who else is sick and tired of the Public Prosecution Service and it's failings. Their is people dying because justice has failed them yet again, but all they do is either pass the buck, say that they are snowed under with work and not enough staff (which is a favourite one), or they were time short. These babes were time short because of this services failures and unfortunately, they weren't the last nor will they be. Rest easy lovely babes.

I lived there and was out searching when we heard a whistle . My dad was called over by the police to say please leave the area . We all walked past and the policeman was crying . A very sad day .

Bishop recently died of cancer, but, he still had a longer life than those two poor little girls! None of us in Brighton will miss or mourn him! I live just around the corner from that graveyard, you could have nipped round for a cup of tea Paul, you look like you could have done with one after relating that story!
