First heard this song Summer '91 aged 13. It was playing in an indie record shop here in Cork, Ireland. It stopped me in my tracks. I didn't know whether I liked it or didn't like it, but damn I was compelled by it! They played Cork that summer, as did Nirvana, Sonic Youth and Therapy? from the north of Ireland, but I was too young to go. Often wish I'd been born earlier.

I really like the moment it becomes distorted and instrumental, and she starts humming…

@jmcampbell78 No, this music isn't gone at all. All you need to do is grab a guitar or drums and start making some noise. That's exactly why I uploaded these Babes in Toyland albums. It's the mantra of punk rock: Do It Yourself. Anyone can create music, and with the internet and social media, it's never been easier. I'm astonished at the opportunities that are available in the year 2010.

I know the sugar plum fairy Her name is Mary She's halfway inside my arm Half way does great harm So she charmed herself to a toilet And fucked herself gold holy Silver beams shot out her eyes When the rain comes When the rain comes Then it got worse I know you well I wear your smell Nailed at the hips I see, you are One, two, three, four, five Glad you're not alive Six, seven, eight, nine, ten Back to hell again This sick charade This ditch I've spade I've come to clay I see you are me One, two, three, four, five Glad you're not alive Six, seven, eight, nine, ten Back to hell again Catatonic planet I won't have it

I'm thinking this song's at least somewhat about heroin use: "She's up inside my arm" sounds like a reference to drug injection...Either way, i looove this song, it was one of the first I heard by them :D

Music like this as we know it is gone. And that's sad.

That’s not true at all. There’s tons of underground artists making abrasive music and especially women are more active than ever in extreme scenes making the most obscure music. I think what you mean to say is there is no other band in the world consisting of women or men that sounds like babes in toyland. On that we can agree.
@DTM-Books14 жыл бұрын
@TheBlackRoseFromHell Well, thank you for visiting and listening to Babes in Toyland. I hope the music of my generation inspires you to pick up an instrument and start your own band. Create your own scene, create your own culture. That's what youth is all about.

@NorthyRamone1973 Great! I have the To Mother vinyl LP, as well. I was surprised by how much brighter and harsher it sounded than the CD. I'll have to give it another spin to see if the Grado can tame the sound. The best version I've heard? Cassette. Good luck finding one of those today. Thanks for the support! Remember me after SOPA shuts me down, heh heh.

@gamesDAMNED Nope. The LP sounds overly bright and brittle, not very good at all. What a shocker - the CD and Cassette are much, much better. That said, I'm happy to have the record in my music library. Heaven knows how few LPs were even made.
