Babeta 210 fix

The new Ethanol E-5 petrol makes engines go nearly as well as they did on leaded petrol BUT it corrodes brass, rots rubber fuel hoses overnight (if not drained), creates rust in gas tanks and eats the factory weld sealing materials in gas tanks on bikes made before 2010. JAWA TS 350 gas tanks start to leak along the side weld seams after 6 months on E-5 petrol. I've used up 3 gas tanks and now use an old 634 one on my 638. It also wrecks chainsaw motors. Mineral 2T oil does not disolve in E-5

Nearly all 2T oil is synthetic in the UK which disolves in E-5 petrol OK-ish. On a unrestricted (X-40) Babetta 225 silencer I have the baffle has the holes drilled through both sides of the tubes. Apparently these are quite a rare find in Europe and intended for export models outside the EU moped speed restriction. There were 48 unrestricted Babetta 225 mopeds appearing at motorcycle autojumbles, on E-Bay, etc. in the 2000's that were unregistered in the UK and EU.

The workshop manual can be found in PDF format for downloading at the Jawamoped website. My Babetta is a 215 "Speedy" / "Jazz" and has a kickstart as well as pedals. The Ethanol petrol in the UK destroys the brass carb parts and so I've fitted a Mikuni from a 1980's Suzuki TS-50 / Yamaha DT-50 which is a direct bolt on replacement. I've also fitted a stainless steel ordinary style straight exhaust silencer pipe intended for a Sachs 50cc sports moped. It has inproved the Babetta's performance.

You can change your top speed a lot just by changing the rear sprocket. I replaced it with smallest one from Babetta 207 and I could get 60-65 km/h out of it.

Folks who bought them found that they were classed as 50cc motorcycles because they were unrestricted and could only be ridden by 17 year olds in the UK, so sold them on. Several ended up being exported to Japan. I bought one, fitted a 1970 Jawa Mustang engine and registered it as a 1988 import of a different model for my then 16 year old son. The engine went into the Babetta I ride now. In the UK new mopeds sold unrestricted are classed as 50cc motorcycles and are off limits to 16 year old

There are also a few X-20 Babetta intended for Holland (22 MPH top speed) that appear on E-Bay and elsewhere in the UK.

Thanks, I know about that manual now but I didn't know at the time I recorded this video. I didnt' know that Mikuni carb will fit, now i do, thanks. I have original exhaust with some modifications.

The biggest problem is the lack of volume in the exhaust silencer so that there isn't enough of a vaccuum effect in the expansion chamber to pull the exhaust gasses out and a fresh charge in. Drilling more holes in the baffle allows the gasses to escape better but reduced the siphoning effect of the expansion chamber part of the pipe. When I ported my cylinder the extra gasses caused problems with the stock pipe despite modifying the baffle or using a 225 baffle, hence the larger silencer.

I've played with some homemade exhausts and what seem to work best is beer can at the end of original pipe with three 5 or 6mm holes in the bottom

I have pictures of the Mikuni fitted to my Babetta 215 which I took this weekend (May 2013) for the JAWA moped website owner, so they should appear on there at sometime soon. The silencer I fitted is from a Hercules (Sachs) Ultra, which is also in the pictures. The Mikuni bolts straight on and the Babetta starts first or second kick on the starter lever. Here in the UK we have E-5 petrol which corrodes the brass floats in the Jikov carb terribly and clogs the jets ever 2 or 3 weeks.

I am trying to buy best pertol I can get because it realy makes difference. I once bought full tank of some cheap petrol and even cheaper oil and I didn't even make it back home.

There are 3 sizes of front sprocket available for the Babetta and Mustang ones also fit, so I've been told.
