I completely agree with the icky bath toys 🤢 I can’t remember where I heard this too from, but someone recommended that you plug up the holes with hot glue. I’ve done it with several of my daughter’s toys before taking them into the bath and it’s worked amazing!

We LOVE the Hatch sound machine! The light is great for middle of the night feeds. We took it to the hospital for our second birth and it help drown out the hospital nosies. There is one in every bedroom, even ours 😂. It is always packed for over night trips. Definitely invest in the travel case if you plan on taking it with you- we have broken one by just tossing it in our bags for travel. We will have hatch sound machines for a long time, I’m sure!

Followed your videos through both of my pregnancies, thank you for spreading knowledge and giving mommas confidence! I find that there's really not a lot that babies need- a bouncy hammock chair so that baby could see me while needed to set them down was a life saver! Also, easiest bath toy that both my kids loved- a plastic cup they can fill up and pour out! Also best purchase for baby- plane tickets to have family come out and help!

While the Haakaa was a pain sometimes, it was definitely worth it for me too! I leaked a bunch in the beginning and I used it when I weaned to avoid full on pumping but to relieve my engorged breasts. But it definitely got knocked off by both my baby and me a couple of times 🙈

I used the cot mobile on the change table - it helps keep them occupied during nappy changes. For bath toys we use stacking cups with holes in the bottom. We've been using them for many years and just keep them unstacked between baths so they don't hold moisture between them and fully dry and have never had mould in them.

I love baby swings! It takes my baby a while to fall to sleep sometimes, or sometimes she’s fussing on the ground/on her play mat, and the swing can calm her down. Of course I will calm her down too and sometimes she needs me. But I also need to do chores, eat, or cook. So she can often be happy for a while in a swing. We have one in the office, our bedroom, and the family room. It sounds extra to have one in so many rooms, but two of the three we got used, and it’s a lifesaver if I need to do something in one of those rooms. It can help put her to sleep, and when she is to sleep, I will put her in a bassinet (having multiple bassinets is also helpful).

I only tried the Haakaa with my 3rd and I actually loved it for when my milk was coming in. It helped relieve some of the engorgement. Pro tip: Wear it in the shower! I'm not bottle feeding yet so I use what I collect for her baths.

We loved our bath flower!! Granted I’d throw it in the dryer after letting it drip dry for a bit. Every few days we’d throw it in with her laundry too. Never had a mold issue that way! As for the sink, we pretty much only used the one side for her things. We always had a large Tupperware on that side for soaking and washing bottles and pump parts, so all we had to do was move that to the counter at bath time.

I do not know if you have a lot of Mama's that newborns need or will have heart surgery within the first year of life, but in case you have any of these Mamas as patients please recommend snap onies - sleepers. Totally going to use the wipe tip this summer. I had the same problem with the munch mitts! We use our swing as a “digestion time” so that after he is done eating instead of being on his belly or in a jumper and puking right away. I could only imagine going through the weighted feeds like you did, but I wish I had a scale cause every day I’m like how much do you really weigh, and I have no clue. So glad I never invested in the “mainstream” wearable pumps. I do have ones that I like to use when I’m chasing milk and can pump during my commute.

While I totally understand your take on the hatch grow scale, we loved ours! We had a very slow weight gain in the begging so it definitely helped me to feel like we were going in the right direction between weight checks. I was working with lactation at the hospital I delivered at but it helped me know roughly what she was getting with feeds. I didn't find ours to be inconsistent at all but we used it on a hard level surface that it never moved from too.

Agree about the sink they are gross! My absolute favorite thing I got was a collapsible bin that has its own twist drain in the bottom! I would keep it in the right side of my sink with strictly dirty bottles and pump parts and if I needed to use that side of the sink I could remove the bottles and they not be cross contaminated with anything else. It is also amazing for traveling I could load up her bottles and it was perfect.

PREACH about bath toys with holes!!! I learned with my first. Even with squeezing the life out of them and tossing them in a mesh hanging bath basket to "drain".....still mildew and mold. Baby swing- got one as hand me down. Didn't use it, but gifted it on to brother and sister in law whose baby loved it. Flower petal bather- also hate, used it once with niece before my own kids and drippy mess everywhere when done. Personally I bought a foldable seat, but hardly used that. I have triplets so bathtime is for efficiency so leaning them over the sink and Bathing them in my arms was/ still is the easiest option. Bibs- skip the tradition bibs, even skip the silicone pocket bibs, get a long-sleeved smock bib( saves the outfit and only have to wipe hand and face when done) Burp clothes- skip the pretty flannel burp clothes, spit up runs right off. The muslin burp clothes work 1,000 times better Receiving blankets- no no. Get some swaddels instead.

My baby swing was a lifesaver at the beginning, but we had a style that reclined flat. Love, love, love my backpack style diaper bag. I'm so glad I'm not the only one that hated the Hakkaa. I just couldn't get it to suction properly, it was always either too much or getting knocked off. I definitely want to try the elvie curve if I ever do this again. I was a leaker and an an overproducer, but the Hakkaa was just not it for me. Also agree that bathing in the sink grossed me out, it was also just generally awkward to maneuver.

The Hatch is definitely a must have! We had other sound machines to start, but the Clock function has been fantastic for our 2 year old. Now my alarm clock is our child yelling, "Ma! My light is green!" I will say that for me, the Hakka is the best! I leak a ton from my right side. I also have been using it to help me hand express so my husband can do some feeds as well. When you're also feeding a toddler who only sometimes gets up to nurse, you sometimes have way too much for a particular night and sometimes not enough. The Hakka has been a better option while I'm on Maternity leave than getting my Spectra fired up before I'm ready to commit to a real pumping schedule and manage the effect that will have on my oversupply.

My little girl would wear the munch mitt but didn't chew on it, but she really wasn't a fan on any teethers. Loved my haakaa, only really worked for the first month or two, got their ladybird version for this bub as I'm not a leaker either. Definitely agree with bath toys, NEVER squirt anywhere near face, body or hands only and still threw them out after a month of use (gifted, not purchased) A more general tip: have toys ahead of their age, my daughter has so many toys she barely played with because she was basically past it by the time I got it. Love so many of your videos Nurse Zabe, keep up the good work ❤

The thing I regret buying was a bath toy storage cot with suction cups. It doesn’t stay in the wall and doesn’t hold much and just gets in the way in general….a reusable produce bag that we already had ended up being a much better solution. It gets a lot more air flow, it can hang from a shower curtain ring or the shower head, it holds a lot more, it actually closes to contain the toys, and even if we didn’t have one it’s still cheaper than the cot. We ended up borrowing a swing because we were desperate to find a way to calm our baby that didn’t require constant holding. He had such bad colic. A swing with a trickling water noise was almost the only thing that worked…sometimes a bouncer worked too. On the days where my husband was at work, it was the only way I could keep baby boy calm enough for me to go use the restroom or take a quick shower or make/eat some food. About to have baby #2 and we went ahead and purchased our own swing. It’s a new model of the one I purchased, the seat actually detaches as a bouncer, and I found it on sale for half price. Ironically, I also had a haakaa, but it was the ladybug collector. My letdowns were extremely forceful and painful and having the unlatched side letdown into the cup instead of trying to hold a breast pad to it helped alleviate a lot of the pain. Even though I was very leaky, I didn’t often wear the haakaas outside of feeding. It will be interesting to see what happens with breastfeeding baby #2.

I found bath toys that come apart! Game changer. I put them in the dishwasher every few weeks when in use, but they've fallen out of favor at 22 months. I also think that bath toys should be able to be sanitized because of the inevitable poops in the tub too.

We used that type of sink bath tip for the early newborn days when I couldn’t bend over the tub after my c section. He also seemed too tiny for the angelcare. I had quite a lot of let down in the beginning and still couldn't get to grips with the Hakka, it was just too awkward trying to latch my baby and use the Hakka at the same time. For things like baby swings, I totally recommend buying off marketplace. Think of it as a rental service or a library. Buy it, use it for a few months, then sell it on again. I LOOOVED the Haakaa and actually considered buying a second one. I had a robust, slightly oversupply and leaked so much. I would pop one on and catch the letdown. I had to triple feed (nurse, pump then bottle) bc baby lost too much weight fresh out of birth, and the Haakaa really helped me get my supply up enough to stop triple feeding. I just had a learning curve to use it. It took a little to figure out how strong I wanted to attach it and my only problem was I knocked it over sometimes. I quickly learned to pour it immediately into a bottle with a lid. Absolutely loved mine.

We got a baby scales too, cause our baby was born on the smaller side 2600g (not sure how much that is in the imperial system). He was formula fed from the beginning and we used to check his weight weekly for the first 3 months. For us it worked quite well, was reassuring that he was gaining weight well and just gave us some relief.

@@Nurse_zabe In Germany most people have a midwife that comes for home visits for the first 6 weeks postpartum, at the beginning twice per week, then weekly (if everything is ok), if necessary, they come even more often. And they weigh the babies during the visits too. Most of them don’t recommend to get scales for breastfed babies as it can do more harm to the breastfeeding person (as you said just increase anxiety) than good for the baby.

I have stopped buying bath toys with a hole because of the mildew. So gross! However, if someone can just not resist a set, use hot glue when they are brand new to cover the hole. They obviously will not be able to squeeze anymore, but they can float and won't fill with mold.

I actually really liked our bath flower! But I only used it in bathtub because I was also a little grossed out by the idea of putting my daughter in the kitchen sink. But it made a really lovely cushy mat for my daughter to lie on in the bathtub. I didn't like our infant bathtub (can't remember the brand) because the newborn hammock that it came with would just swaddle the baby and make it impossible to wash her. So, laying my daughter flat on the flower was way easier. And ours dried well as long as I hung it from the shower head, but I still put it in the washing machine every other week or so. Baby #2 is on the way, and I definitely want to try the Angel Baby bath, though! A friend of ours has it, and it looks so much easier to use!

I'm exclusively pumping, so using a haakaa has been useful. I'm able to be hands-free to do things like eating, or prepping a bottle for my little one. It isn't as efficient as a hand or electric pump, but can help move clogs, and help encourage milk to flow. Having a backpack diaper bag is so much easier! It's not just easy to carry, but it's easier to get one with more space. You can also just use a regular backpack, and have a few smaller bags to keep similar items together (like diaper stuff, or spare clothes).

I'm okay with baby in the sink... My sink has two sides, and I use one side for clean one side for dirty. Nothing goes in the clean side unless it is soapy and just needs a rinse. Also, I thoroughly disinfect EVERYTHING after cleaning chicken or meat - that means both sides, the faucet, the walls, the surrounding counters, and the drain. I also disinfect both sides every night. My mom had the same attitude towards disinfecting the sink and also bathed us all (7 of us !) in the sink.. so I'm perfectly okay giving my baby baths in the sink(: It's definitely how you're using and cleaning your sink and shouldn't be a one-size-fits-all generalization

I totally agree on the haakaa, I got one before baby came not knowing if I'd need it or not. It turns out, I don't leak much just feeding baby on my own (although the suction of the haakaa can pull out a very decent amount if I do use it). But what freaked me out with the haakaa is how extremely dark purple my nipple got from the suction. My husband was ready to throw me in the car and take me to the hospital because he thought it had gone necrotic or something (it pinked back up shortly after removing the haakaa). I'd definitely suggest to wait on getting a milk catching device until you know how your particular breasts handle a feeding. I also totally agree about that flower bath. I was very tempted to get one because it is so cute, but all of our sinks in our house are very small and I KNOW all of them are too gross for me to want to bathe my baby in them. I got the Mobi whale bath instead. Had a lot of people hassle me about how back-breaking it will be to bend over the tub, but the whale has a plug in the bottom. I can easily set the bath on a table or counter, fill it up, and bathe baby. As for swings, I have the mamaroo (given to us by friends). It reclines pretty flat, and we let baby take supervised naps in it. She always wants to be held and cuddled for her naps, but I've found that once she's asleep, I can transfer her to the swing pretty well and she'll stay down long enough for me to eat a meal, fold some laundry, whatever I need to get done while watching baby sleep. Her transitions to her bassinet at night are also starting to get better as she's getting more practice not being held for every sleep.

Totally thought I was the only one that thinks bathing a baby in the sink is 🤢😂 And I completely agree with the haakaa. I am a big leaker but also have wiggly babies that like to knock it off, so it was too big to be helpful 🤷🏼‍♀️ I gave it away after a few unsuccessful tries.

I 1000% agree about the bath toys, and my 2 year old is obsessed with rubber duckies, so it takes a lot of explaining to convince her we have to throw away another one because it's moldy... again... after using it 2-5 times. 🤦‍♀️ And I knew this before because I used to live rubber ducks and knew they get gross fast, and still gave them to her to fall in love with. WHY!? I don't get why they can't just make them with no holes in them. Also, same goes for the cloth flower bath, that's why I didn't get that, I know that thing would never dry. I do like the swings though, but our front didn't really sit baby up at all, both positions were pretty reclined, basically laying down, but I still never put her in it if I wasn't going to be in there and awake because I'm very paranoid 😆 But they're useful when you're trying not to let them nurse to sleep all the time nothing else is putting them to sleep. In retrospect, I wish I'd utilized it more because now she's 2+ and I still can't get her all the way weaned. 😭

But yeah, the willows are just WAY too expensive too. Yikes. And the reviews are so mixed. If I could afford to spend and potentially waste that kind of money, sure. But I can't. They should allow some kind of trial model to be sent out or something. Such a big investment and you can't even make sure it works? I hope they at least allow returns.

The flower was exhausting. It dripped water everywhere after the bath and the floors would be soaked all the way to the washer. I spent more time wringing it out than bathing the baby lol My least favorite purchase was the snuggle me pillow. I never let baby sleep in it but I’d put him in it for a minute here and there and he’d cried the whole time. I could of just put him on a blanket on the floor and he’d probably of been happier. It’s turned into our cats bed now. The most expensive cat bed ever lol

For when they’re really little, get a countertop bath - we have the munchkin one and it works great before they can sit up. After they can sit up, get yourself a really good disinfecting bathroom cleaner and scrub the sink & surrounding countertop very well before every bath. Then get them to shower once they’re pretty good at standing up. Or, you could just have them shower with you from birth … it’s really a 2 person job - one does the bathing & then passes off kiddo yo the other to dry/dress while the first finishes showering.

When we travel and we know there's not going to be a bathtub where we're going we have a little inflatable tub that we take with us it's in the shape of a rubber ducky. I want to see how many it's great because it folds up really small you can pack it in a bag so if you don't have a ton of space it's so much better than the big bulky countertop ones. But we typically just put that inside the shower fill it up and then base baby like normal.

I canNOT with the Haakaa. Just the Haakaa brand though. I got an off brand one and it works so much better. The Haakaa brand has such a strong suction and it hurt and didn’t work at all. But the off-brand could get me up to 3 oz! We also had the flower bath with my first and used it twice 😅 we got the Angel care bath with this one and love it. Had the munchmitt, used it once and my daughter wasn’t impressed. She loved the mushroom though! One thing we had with our first that I wouldn’t recommend is a bassinet. You can only use it for a few months and then use a pack n play or crib. This time we’re using a 3-in-1 cosleeper/portable crib. We’ll get so much more use out of it.

My mom used to tell me the way she changed my brother's diapers and avoid being peed on is to open the dirty diaper, blow some air on/across the pp, then close the dirty diaper quickly and wait for brother to pee. Am I weird? Is this weird? Everyone talks about how hard it is to change baby boys because once the air hits them they go pee. I'm like why is it so hard to navigate why aren't you using this trick? I thought everyone knew this? Is this just a weird thing that most people don't know? My mom used to brag about it when iw as growing up and it was annoying because I've heard her say it 5,000 times to her friends and stuff but now that I'm pregnant I feel prepared to change a boy diaper.
