It's just easier and cheaper and I've never lived alone so it's a little bit scary. I have social anxiety so doing things like going out alone or working/being around a lot of people, Etc make me really nervous. I've literally never had a job but I do bring in money to pay my half of the rent. Albeit not very much. I do want one but I'm too nervous. Imagine your parent abandons you by tricking someone else into thinking you're their baby, but as you grow into a child, you are viewed as this big, grotesque parasite. @@jaadalbasha315 While the mother is away, a different bird species comes and lays its egg in her nest. The eggs look similar so that mom doesn’t notice. Then the imposter egg hatches first and its natural instinct is to actually throw the other eggs out of the nest so it’s the only one. And even if it doesn’t succeed in getting rid of all of them (like in this case), the bird grows much bigger and faster than the other birds so it out-competes them. If you notice, there’s a blue egg in the corner of the box, which the big bird threw out earlier.

@@marcotedesco8954 We'll probably never know 100% what goes through their heads but I think we can take a guess from their behaviours: 'normal' chicks of the various species that cuckoos use as hosts don't kill their siblings, so the fact that cuckoos usually do suggests they know they aren't whatever species they're being raised as, but something else. I suppose it's a bit like various human pets: they might not interact with others of their own species and only encounter humans, but you'll still get cats scratching carpets and dogs chewing shoes and what not. I mean, birds abandon their nests for less quote often. But a larger predator bird taking over is a pretty strong reason to do so. Seriously Though, if they only pretended to feed it, it would never have gotten this big. Even just a day or two of lax feeding would make a bird like this more lethargic than it was.

Common cuckoo ( Cucculus canorus) is an endangered and protected species in europe. Today, they are very rare in some parts and they don't affect bird populations at all, mostly because their main target species (usually Reed warbler) coevolved with cuckoos and aren't themselves in danger. People dont realize this, but most of the times cuckoo attempts at parasiting end in failure because the mother bird recognizes the egg or saw the cuckoo lay in their nest. People also tend to hate on cuckoos because we anthropomorphize them and perceive them negatively, but the truth is that they are a wonderful result of thousands of years of evolution and we should be amazed by them, not wanting to kill tem. Each year, common cuckoos cross Europe and the Sahara to winter in Africa making a +7000 km journey 2 times per year. They are a natural predator of the Pine processionary moth's caterpillars which can be extremely dangerous to humans because of their urticating hairs and tendency to gather in huge numbers. But cuckoos can eat them. Adult cuckoos mimic the flight and colors of sparrowhawks so that other birds don't attack them. They also have a unique and magnificent song and without them, our countryside is less alive and beautiful... Please, learn to know cuckoos and if you're lucky enough to hear them in your garden, be thankful for that amazing species and opportunity

I never liked cuckoo birds. When I was a little boy I had found a little nest of birds, and I started taking care of them. After they had all grown up and left the nest I got an artificial nest and then some other birds moved in and laid eggs and started raising baby birds. One day I woke up and go out to check on them and a cuckoo chick had ended up killing the other chicks. I was so heartbroken and angry that I took that bird in my hands and threw it on the ground and squished him for killing the other baby birds. I was really sad for a couple of weeks

I really can't understand all this hating for the cuckoo. Why do we have to use our morality on nature? All the creature has the same right to live. Isn't their fault if they evolved into a parasitic species. The little bird of cuckoo was born and had the impulse to push out the eggs, it's just his DNA what's wrong about it? If the nest would be mine, I absolutely wouldn't interfere, if someone like it should know that you must act as a spectator, never interfere, especially if you're advantaging a species over another for no reason, only because our brains works differently. I can understand if the cuckoo is an alien species and similar, but if not, don't judge nature. Watch it and be amazed.
