Shmi wasn’t hiding anything about Anakin not having a father. What she said was quite literal. The Jedi believed in a prophecy that one day a being would be conceived through the force, born of no father that would destroy the sith and bring balance to the force. Though it hasn’t been confirmed or explained, it’s theorized that years before the events of this film, Darth Sidious(the emperor) and his master had attempted to manipulate and control the force. The force sensed this imbalance and in response created the being that was foretold within the Jedi prophecy. This being was Anakin.
@Syffx. Жыл бұрын
That makes sense now! I always wondered if that line was literal, or she was just saying that his father left. This is completely random, but I always interpreted the prophecy as saying that he would bring balance to the force as meaning he’d (help) kill al the Jedi, and make there an equal amount of Jedi and sith.
@clank0ta404 Жыл бұрын
@@Syffx. Anakin’s purpose was to destroy the sith. However, his path to fulfill it was altered due to the death of Qui gon since many believe that he was the mentor that Anakin needed. Even though he wasn’t meant to destroy the Jedi, some theorize that the force realized that the Jedi had lost their way and came to the conclusion that the order needed a complete restart, possibly even aiding the sith to achieve this. Like I said, Anakin was meant to destroy the sith and restore balance, but it was never stated how he would do so.
@Syffx. Жыл бұрын
@@clank0ta404 I mainly got that interpretation from the part in episode 2 or 3 I think were they say that the prophecy is very old and might have been a little lost in translation (not the exact quote but something similar). Also, in a few books they mention how there has to be a balance of the sith and the Jedi for the force to be balanced (mainly in the rise of darth Vader book and into the void where since the Jedi use the light and the dark, there are no sith as the force users are already balanced)

The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul

So he planned out all the important story elements for the prequels whe writing the originals. Obviously the details came later, when he started working on the prequel trilogy. @EntertainmentFan11 Жыл бұрын
Okay, there were some changes made to this film. The Podracing sequence wasn't as long as you saw. When it first came out, it was shortened a bit (most likely for pacing), but some of the bits you've seen have been restored on the DVD release of this film. Also, the bit where Anakin checks on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, wondering if they're coming with him, that was also cut (again, for pacing, I believe), but was restored on the DVD and subsequent releases. Now, for the most major change: Yoda's look in this film. Originally, they used a puppet for the scenes that featured Yoda. Let's just say that he's supposed to be a bit younger in the Prequels (still old, but not as old as he was in the Original Trilogy), so obviously, the puppet they used for this film didn't look like he was younger, but rather, even older (like a thousand or so years older, when he's supposed to be around 800 years old in these three films). When this film was re-released in theaters in Real-D 3D, and later when it came out on Blu-ray, the puppet was replaced with a CGI model (which you'll see again in the next two films). Honestly, I think he looks really good in CGI, and it's nice that they re-used that model from Episodes II and III for this film. And of course, that is Frank Oz reprising his role. Now, regarding Jar Jar Binks, as someone in the comments mentioned, people really hated the character when the film first came out, and many of those people probably still hate him to this day, but maybe not as much after his actor, Ahmed Best, revealed that he almost committed suicide from all the hate and death threats. I don't understand the hate for the character. I love him. He gets himself in trouble, sure, but he means no harm. You can't blame him for trying not to get in trouble. He just can't help it, you know? Oh, and yes, that is Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. Before he was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was a Jedi Master. Even though he's not in this film a lot, his presence was a most welcome one. Edit: Also, Darth Maul was potrayed by stunt performer Ray Park, while he was voiced by another actor (just like how Darth Vader was portrayed in the Original Trilogy by the late David Prowse while James Earl Jones provided the iconic voice). 2nd edit: 50:19 to 50:25 - Well, I'm sure Darth Maul will NEVER be a threat again. Nope. Definitely not. (No talking about spoilers for "Solo" until Colette posts her reaction to it. Same goes for "The Clone Wars", only no spoiling events of later episodes. Only discuss the current episode.)

Far as the lightsaber colors go, there’s a pretty big split in the fandom as they have changed over time in terms of meaning. So I’ll keep it pretty surface level without really getting into HOW the colors actually come about. Blue usually symbolizes bravery and the choice to stand first to fight Green is typical of Jedi who are more in tune to the force and prefer negotiation above drawing their sabers. Purple is one of the more rare colors, for Jedi that dance with darkness whilst still remaining loyal to the light side Red is obviously symbolic of hatred, anger and fear

Actually, the slide transitions are a 1930s thing, not 70s. This is copying the look of 1930s sci-fi movie serials, such as Flash Gordon. Thus, the opening text crawl and episode numbers. The production story reason for the light sabers being different colors is this. Lucas decided that the red are for the Sith and blue for Jedi. They filmed Return of the Jedi with Luke wielding a blue saber against a blue sky. Whoops. You can still see this in early commercials on KZbin. They made it green instead, which is close to blue. Then, a certain actor in the prequels, prized to be cast, wanted to have a purple saber, Lucas let him. Then came the avalanche of various saber colors in Star Wars.

the way the shield works is the harder the force going at it, the harder it repels, which is why the bullets bounced off but they could walk throught. it is the same tech as the underwater shields where obiwan/qui gon just walked in. btw. also. the pod race, per my dad who was born in the 40s and we saw this in 1999 together. he told me the pod race highly reminded him of 1959s ben hurr's chariot race. i later went back to watch it and there was defintely influence. in fact, a lot of this movie was influenced from roman culture. as well as others.

The only way to see the original trilogy the way it was in the theaters is through someone who has the original DVD or earlier cd's. Star War fans my age would have both like I do. I remember seeing them all in theaters as they came out.

The lightsaber colors do have meaning, but it's more in the books than the movies. Red is Sith, everything else is usually some sort of Jedi

You should see Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" as it's entirely based on the info leaked while this was being filmed. "My, my, this here Anakin guy; may be Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry."

Also explains how the AT-AT's were able to destroy the generator on Hoth in ESB. The shields stop fast moving objects such as a blaster bolt from getting through, but slower moving objects have no problem.

Around the time this was released, there was a video game based on the pod racing for the Nintendo 64 video game system. In addition to the track on Tattooine, it has some on other planets as well. I'm not sure if you recognize the voice of one of the track announcers or not, but the English-speaking head is voiced by Greg Proops. He's best known as a frequent performer on the improv show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?".

About why in the fight with Maul they go to a small room, the style of fighting of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan involves many jumps and turns, you can see that when they fight on an open area Qui-Gon and Obi are winning, so Maul leads them into a small room when they can't use their style to well, that's why he's able to kill Qui-Gon.

in case you're still interested in the un-edited original trilogy, look online for Harmy's Despecialized Editions. it's a fan-made recreation of the original versions using various sources to stitch it back together. it's incredibly well done and (sadly) the closest we'll (probabaly) ever get to actually seeing the original un-edited versions

Hey, did you see a little detail in episode 1, which refers to the original Trilogy ? A short sequence that is exactly the same as in episode 6, at the begining of space- Battle of Endor 😉. As the interior of the Naboo fighter's cockpit is filmed, the flying droids deploy exactly the same as the TIE fighters seen from the Millennium Falcon's cockpit.

Qui-Gon Jinn is Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi master, he being the apprentice. Qui-Gon was mentored by Count Dooku when he was younger. 😅 That's not just any astro mech droid, that actually IS R2D2...lol 🤣 The Stormtroopers ride on Dewbacks which are a large lizard. The jawa is seen riding a Ronto. 😊 Anakin was created through a manipulation of the Force. He was meant to bring balance according to a Jedi prophecy. "My, my, this here Anakin guy, may be Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry...". Weird Al Yankovich Sith bleed their Kaiburr crystals causing their lightsabers to turn red in hue. If you want to see the original trilogy unedited you would need to get your hands on the boxed VHS slipcase with the holographic cover. That was the last unedited version of release. No newer versions exist on DVD or Blu-ray because George Lucas has made sure that only the 25th anniversary edition will be released going forward. Rest in pieces Darth Maul... Senator Palpatine isn't evil...he is just misunderstood...yeah that's the ticket...
@Velanteg Жыл бұрын
Well this not said in movies but Darth Maul survived. Palpatine not true evil in common way but he lost the edge in his long way. This was inevitable anyway regardless of his motives in beginning. Also time between Coruscant scenes and his arrival on Naboo in this movie - this is time when he killed Plagueis. He did it when they celebrated his election as counselor. And trouble of Jedi that they not even think - what can mean "bring balance" when they have obvious advantage and only two Sith left are hiding.

Lucas would say he had it all planned and the final versions of the movies are the ones he always envisioned, but we know that isn't true. It's hard to say exactly when different things were part of the plan. The first script for the original movie was really different, and his wife made lots of edits to the version they actually shot to get the final version. By the time the first movie was done, I think he had some conception of other aspects of the story. The Clone Wars were referenced in the first movie but we can't be sure what he thought those would exactly be at the time. The Emperor was also referenced but never appeared. Most people working on it thought it was unlikely to get a sequel though, so they tried to make it very stand alone, even if some threads were left to explore later. The first movie released originally without an episode 4 subtitle, and it was added after they started the next movie, so it's fair to say at that point he wanted to go back and do 1-3. Vader means father in German I think, so that seems planned. But the Leia being Luke's sister thing was not, hence the kissing. At one point he wanted to do 9 parts, ending with Luke defeating the Emperor after training an apprentice, who was "the other hope" mentioned in 5, but then they nixed all that after Episode 5 and just did one more movie instead of 4. The prequels seemed pretty well planned out in advance though. He also later developed an outline for a different version of episodes 7-9, which Disney essentially completely ignored. Basically like most stories, there was some planning, and then some changing that plan as it went, adapting to various challenges or to implement good ideas that came later.

It shows the level of technology in the Star Wars universe that even the "primitive" Gungans have shield bubbles that can resist the main guns of tanks.
@Gauldoth88 Жыл бұрын
To answer your question: George Lucas wrote the first six episodes from the begining. The issue was that he did not believe that in the 70's there was enough technology to film the Clone Wars (episode 2, the next movie that you are about to see on your next reaction). So that's why he went on to film episodes 4, 5 and 6 first, since they required less special effects when compared to the first three episodes (more war, more jedis, more lightsaber battles, etc).

StarWars usually has no end credit scenes but fun fact: at the end of the credits for episode 1 you can hear Darth Vader breathing.

The Duel of the Fates is referring to Anakin’s path. Anakin needed a father, he NEEDED Qui Gon. Obi Wan was always more of a brother. Qui Gon’s philosophy really went in line with Anakin’s, he would’ve been the perfect master for him.

Lucas wrote a 1,000 page story after graduating from USC's film school in the early 1970s that told Darth Vader's whole life story. He broke it up into 9 movie scripts, and then when he needed a film to pitch to Fox, he took the 4th part (after adding the destruction of the Death Star from the 6th) to them. He felt that was the easiest to film and get audiences interested in. His goal was for the movie to make enough money that Fox would fund more movies in the story.
