"He will bring balance" meant something different to Lucas (according to interview where he talks about it) than it does to people on the internet. If you ask around people will tell you that "balance in the force" means using the dark side and the light side appropriately. For Lucas "balance in the force" meant ending the tyranny of the dark side over the force. Anakin brings balance to the force by ending the reign of the Emperor, with some help from his son 😊 tl;dr Lucas's interpretation of his own work fell out of favour with fans and some later authors, so the answer to the question "what does balance mean" depends on who you ask

"They can just walk through the shield? How does that work?". Much like the slow knife, the slow droid penetrates the shield. In all seriousness, my guess is that the shields are optimised for blaster/high impact weapons, but then, I know nothing.

So, some questions u'll never have an answer to cus they aren't in the movies, but rather in stuff like comics, games, data books, etc. 1. Darth Maul was from a race known as Zabraks, who are finetuned with the dark side of the force. 2. His double lightsaber was to compliment the lightsaber combat style he employed (there are 7; he use form VII, which is an agresive style of combat). 3. His childhood was sad :c 4. Anakin is 9yo here, Padme 14, Obi Wan 25 and Qui Gon around 48-50. 5. In Star Wars there are people who are "force sensitive" and we are introduced to 2 factions, those who are pacifist peacekeaper AKA the good guys (The Jedi) and those who use their force for their own gain AKA the bad guys (The Sith, as Yoda said, always 2: master and apprentice). Ps i hope you one day play some of the SW games like the "Jedi Knight" saga or the newer "Fallen Order" and "Jedi Survivor" (after u are done with the Prequels ofc). Ty for the reaction c:

People like to argue that the prequels were bad due to the CGI, and how unlike the originals they were in terms of not using practical effects or anything like that, but that's completely false. The originals used blue screen and matte paintings while the prequels used CGI, both used practical effects. IMO the prequels were much better. Also hey, I used to look like young Obi-Wan for a long time :D wink wink lol. Yoda in the original release of TPM was a puppet, it kinda looked bad and it's much better they fixed it with cgi Also during the senate scene at 29:08 in the original, you'd see ET's species, I dont remember if they show up in any special edition re-release. The Gungan boss, Boss Nass, was played by Brian Blessed :) I do like the Jedi robes but George Lucas originally intended on it being a moisture farmer disguise for Obi-Wan while he was on Tatooine, which makes the most sense. Why dress as a Jedi and also be in hiding?

Sith is an order of forceusers, who use the force through their emotions and use it for their own wishes, they try to take full freedom through it, the jedi is bloked all emotions and serve the force as monks, so all difference between sith and jedi is philosophy of ways of using the force, and the force influence both sides, so siths is becomes super emotionals and not very clean mide mans, and jedis becomes very closed and chained by their dogmatism The Sith Code Peace is a lie, there is only passion Through passion, I gain strength Through strength, I gain power Through power, I gain victory Through victory, my chains are broken The Force shall free me. The Jedi Code. There is no emotion, there is peace There is no ignorance, there is the knowledge There is no passion, there is no serenity There is no chaos, there is harmony There is no death, there is the Force Firstly, the Sith are a very ancient order, initially before the Jedi and the Sith there was a single order of force-sensitive beings who practiced a balance between the two sides of the force, which were named after the two moons of the planet on which this order existed, one was of dark stone, the other of light, thus the light and dark sides of the force appeared, which symbolized two different aspects of the force, emotional and emotionless. So after that, the council of this order decided to prohibit the interpretation of the force through aspects of the dark side and from the balance, they came only to the light side, so the Jedi Order was born, and the Sith appeared from the apostates of the order, expelled from it at the time of rejection of the dark side, they were forced to hide from the Jedi in unknown regions, where they found the planet Korriban, which was inhabited by a race of red-skinned humanoids who called themselves the Sith, they had a very strong connection with the dark side, so these apostates led the indigenous the people of this planet assimilated among them and began to rule, calling themselves the Sith Lords, so their order was born, which was the opposition to the Jedi Order thirdly, the Jedi are not exactly good in the first instance, they are bound by the dogmas of the order and the laws of a largely corrupt republic, a lot of things happened through the fault of the Jedi that will lead to the birth of the empire Oh, yeah, definitely, more information about the Sith, early in the days of the old Republic, over 3000 years before the events of the film, the Sith were as much as the Jedi and their order functioned as had many temples and members and etc., also there were two huge intergalactic state, the Republic and the Sith Empire, each of which had their pros and cons, but unlike the Jedi who lead an ascetic way of life, directly ruled by the Sith Empire, the Emperor was a member and head of the order, so in those days, not all Sith held the title "Darth", is not even considered by the lords, only members of the dark Council, the analogue of the Jedi Council, was the Sith names and the title Darth (Darth Nox, Darth Tenebrous, Darth Marr, Darth Baras), but after he was born Sith, who was called the Darth Bane, he studied the history of the order and realized that all the problems of the Sith was due to their lust for power and eternal betrayals for the sake of power and strength, which pushed their dark side and who condemned the whole military of the company and took the best of them, so Darth Bane came up with the rule of two, which was that there should be only two survivors of the Sith the teacher and the student, the teacher, the power to bring the pupil to her to pull when the student surpasses the master, he must kill him to take his place, thus the order is constantly evolving unlike the Jedi, who with the passage of time were stagnant, creating this rule, Darth Bane gathered all the members of the order of Sith lords to meet and staged the attack, after killing them all, the Sith Empire in the time it collapsed under its own weight and under the attacks of the Republic and the Sith were hunted down and exterminated the Jedi, after the attack, Darth Bane went underground, old temples were abandoned and the sith Empire has fallen, so the Jedi decided that the Sith were all destroyed, unaware that the order was reformed and still operates, whose main objective is the revival of the Empire and revenge for the collapse of the Jedi order and the time when the Sith were hunted down and slaughtered by the jedi

As i understand, Lucas did wait a little because of developing technologies, but he didn't mean to wait that long. The plan was to have the prequels and sequels done in a time that would let him retire at a more normal age, but life kind of got in the way, and Ep. I also had some serious delays in pre-production. I think development on that started around 10+ yrs. prior. Lucas always wanted to be at the cutting edge of effects innovation with his company ILM, and so many other studios wanted to use his technology. He wanted to profit from that, but he also wanted to keep ahead of the competition so that the prequels would still dazzle. Those two goals were at odds with each other, and in retrospect he could have done a better job of balancing it. From 1984-99, he knew that the popularity of the original trilogy had never yet been matched in another film or franchise. He felt pressured to deliver a similar level of wow, which may have been an unreasonable expectation. But this pressure led to additional clashes between Lucas and his creative staff as the staff struggled to understand and support his vision for The Phantom Menace.

There weren't any production delays in The Phantom Menace. He wrote it with the backstory he had for the original Star Wars. Production started as far back as 1994, just when he was doing writing. But the actual production and filming started in 1997. It wasn't something he was planning to do all along. But Star Wars proved to be popular and he had the backstory and he had the ability to do what he wanted.

@@no_rubbernecking 🤷🏾‍♂️ You're mostly not wrong and neither is she. But the Phantom Menace was pretty much on schedule. Things like the roleplaying game, Dark Horse Comics and the earlier books proved Star Wars was still very popular. And seeing what Spielberg could do with Jurassic Park he figured he could do the backstory he wrote the kind of justice he felt goes with it. But these trilogies are massive undertakings. From writing to release of the original trilogy was 9 years, same for the prequels. But nothing was written for a sequel trilogy. He didn't want to commit what would effectively be the rest of his life to another trilogy.

The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul мне

That said, fans really (but unnecessarily) hated Jar Jar. Many of them chose to turn that hate towards Ahmed Best, the actor who played him and bullied, harassed, and threatened Best so much he nearly took his own life. Thankfully he stayed strong and pushed through it. I can't even begin to fathom why people think that kind of behavior is ok in any way.

One of the great foreshadowings in this film is the music. At the end, during the celebration scene, if you listen carefully to the music, the song they are playing is actually a lively version of the Emperor's theme music from Return of the Jedi. In a series of interviews for the Star Wars Archives books, Lucas clarified the nature of the Force, the Jedi, the Sith, and the whole concept of the midi-chlorians (as well as single-celled organisms called The Whills which embody the Force) as it relates to the symbiotic relationship of all life in the universe. The idea is that the Whills are what communicate the Force through the midi-chlorians in all life forms, and as long as there is peace and harmony and the natural life cycle, the Force is in balance. The Jedi, according to Lucas, were never meant to be superhero sorcerer knights but, rather, the equivalent of Buddhist monks who are trained in defensive martial arts -- he says they were intended to be diplomats and aesthetes who helped maintain that balance. It's only through the gradual corruption of the Republic through greed and lust for power (as represented in this film by the Trade Federation and, as we'll see later, other corrupt capitalist concerns) that the Jedi are used more for security and a police force, paying only lip service to their initial role as diplomats (which is the role assigned to the Jedi when they first appear in this film). So, while Qui-Gon is spouting the dogmatic views of the Jedi when he says the midi-chlorians are what communicate the will of the Force to Jedi and other Force users (like the Sith and, as we gradually learn throughout the franchise, others), what's really going on is that the midi-chlorians are really more of a measure of how easy it is for someone trained properly to commune with the Force and use it. The Sith, again, according the Lucas (he makes a point in saying there was never a war between the Sith and the Jedi), were Force users who relied on tapping into their anger and negative emotions and they ruled the galaxy for a while until their own greed and lust for power cannibalized them so that in the end there were only two -- a Master, who had the power, and the Apprentice, who wanted it, and eventually the Apprentice would either destroy his Master, become the new Master, and then take on an Apprentice for himself, OR the Master would destroy the Apprentice and take on a new Apprentice. Each Sith sought out an Acolyte to serve as this future Apprentice. This is the relationship you see play out in the original trilogy -- Darth Sidious, the Emperor, and Darth Vader each try to turn Luke to the Dark Side to help them take out the other. It's also important to note that, as Yoda said many times in Empire and Return, once you turn to the Dark Side, you are consumed by your greed, lust for power, your anger, your hatred, your fear. It's overwhelming and immediate. So, as the Sith grow in power, the balance of the Force is thrown off by the increasing presence of the Dark Side. According to Lucas, this affected the Whills much like antibodies fighting off a disease, and so they influenced the midi-chlorians to create a force to combat this imbalance: Anakin. Anakin is the key to defeat the growing power of the Dark Side, and how he will do this is determined by the outcome of that fight between Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul -- if Qui-Gon wins, Anakin has the father figure he needs to help overcome his fear, anger, and hate, but since Maul won, Anakin turns to the Dark Side and helps wipe out the Jedi before he, at last, is able to be turned back to the light by the love of his son and thus defeats Darth Sidious, wiping out the Sith and restoring the balance to the Force. Lucas said he had two questions he wanted to explore with the prequel trilogy: What causes a good person to turn evil, and what causes a democracy to become a fascist dictatorship. He was very much a product of the idealistic liberalism of the counterculture from the '60s (hell, much of the Force and its concepts are taken almost word for word from the trippy ramblings of anthropologist Carlos Castaneda as well as watered down Buddhism) and this has a strong influence on the whole saga. Basically, Lucas wanted to create a new secular mythology to teach the concepts of symbiotic cooperation vs. greed and power to modern 12-year-olds since that's when your brains are developed to start asking bigger philosophical questions. Apparently he was going to elaborate on all this further in the prequels but the fans got so up in arms about the idea that the Force was created by microscopic organisms (which isn't true, but there you go) that he decided to shy away from it. He was going to then go into further examination of it, as well as the Whills, in the sequels, but then he sold the franchise to Disney and they threw out his plans for the sequels and made their own which don't develop Lucas's themes or focus on his ideas at all). We did get a Yoda arc that touched on the Whills and a weird mystical manifestation of them in the Clone Wars cartoon, but it didn't elaborate too much more than help explain how trained Jedi could maintain their consciousness when their life force entered the Cosmic Force upon death. tl;dr: Star Wars is a lot deeper than most people realize.

They weren't waiting for the technology, Lucas was creating the technology. Ever since the original trilogy series he has set the standard for movie making. Star Wars(1977 took in 273 million dollars for it's first run in theatres domestically and held that record until James Cameron's Titanic finally unseated it in the 1990's.) was the first "Blockbuster" movie of all time, that term had never been used before to describe a movie. I suggest you watch the "Empire Of Dreams" documentary. It's the official story of the Star Wars movies.

That is his own revisionist history. His 9 film saga never delved into the prequel era until he started working on Empire strikes back. Luke was supposedly going to visit three separate worlds to lean a new lesson from three masters; Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin. As a cost cutting measure Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker were combined, and the three worlds was changed to just one. This idea gave him the inspiration to start working on the prequel’s. He was so caught up in them that he nearly lost interest, writing his third film. But that’s not the only reason why return the Jedi was the weakest. After Empire’s release, George was kicked out of the writers and directors guild for not including Irvin Kushner’s name in the opening credits. Which meant he couldn’t work with his ideal directors to make the third film or the other three films afterwards. His nine part plan was to have Darth Vader would die in ep 6. Then the next three films will be about Luke Skywalker looking for his sister and defeating the emperor. Each movie would be had a separate Director with George coming back to do the last film. Then tie it all together with the prequels. But because of all the extra behind-the-scenes drama, George had to pretty much micromanage the director’s chair for return the Jedi, which means he had to spend less time at the Lucasfilm ranch which destroyed his marriage (allegedly). But not being in the guild meant he couldn’t get Steven Spielberg or any of his friends to work on Return or any of his future projects. So after the release of Jedi, George pretty much disappeared. Throughout that time, he mostly worked on behind the scenes stuff, ILM, and basically managing the internals of Star Wars without actually making any more movies. He became more of a business manager than a creative director. Working behind the scenes in smaller films like the dark crystal and willow, and advancing filmmaking techniques and technology. George finally decided it might’ve been time to come back to Star Wars, but he was afraid that Star Wars wasn’t going to sell very well and was worried that it would become the next James Bond. Lots of sequels and follow ups but no substance. So he went back and re-released his original trilogy in 1995 with digital upgrades with sound and picture. George begin working on his prequel films. 2 years later the special editions came out with added scenes and visual effects. And a new ending that featured assets from the upcoming The Phantom Menace. The most creative genius of our time, shrewd, businessman, or a complete hack. The fact is George Lucas it’s just a man like any of us. And the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Like any other creative person with a case of OCD, he can’t help but changing things to suit himself. Even if he has to change history.

Midichlorians are not the Force. They are essentially Force-sensitive germs that help other biological beings become Force-sensitive as well. Basically, they're like the earliest life forms of our own planet, and they are the closest in evolution to "the source" of all life, which in the Star Wars universe is the Force. So, the Force is still magic. But the beings of galaxy can only tap into that magic and weild it through the midichlorians.

There was much hype surrounding this movie mainly because there had been so much demand for more Star Wars content and it had been such a long time. The re-release in theaters of the Special Editions of the original trilogy also built a lot of hype, so I think a lot of original fans and newer fans lacked some objectivity with regard to these films. Yet there were some things in this movie that had fans cringing and scratching their heads (the inclusion of Jar Jar, the midichlorians BS, the wooden acting, etc). Lucas wrote and directed all three of these movies himself rather than hiring a screenwriter for the script and giving the job of director to someone else. Lucas is nothing if not a fantastic visionary, but as a director, he does a poor job of gleaning the emotional performance out of his actors. Consequently, this film was devastating to the careers of Jake Lloyd (young Anakin) and Natalie Portman (Padme). Lloyd went on to suffer from depression and drug problems because of all the hate he got from the fans, and it took Portman a long time to get past the stigma of playing Padme before she was able to prove she could be taken seriously as an actress. Having an icon such as Liam Neeson brought enough gravitas to the film that it was able to salvage an otherwise mediocre story.

In reference to your mention of "That's how Obi-Wan got his green lightsaber.". In the original trilogy Old Ben Kenobi's (Obi-Wan's) lightsaber is blue. Perhaps you are thinking of Luke who had his father's blue lightsaber until Vader cut off his hand in Empire Strikes Back and he lost it. So he built a new one which was green that we saw in Return of the Jedi. Obi-Wan's lightsabers have been blue right along. Lightsaber colors do have some significance.

There are times when Yoda is still a puppet. However, there were times when a puppet was not practical. The dilemma, as Lucas and Co put it, was to make a CGI character look as good as the Henson Creature Shop-created puppet. Force-sensitive children are taken to the Jedi Temple at a very young age. At 10 years old, Anakin is considered too old to be trained. Jedi are forbidden from forming attachments, which comes into play in the later films. Padme was about 14 when she was elected as Queen, so she's not that much older then Anakin. (Nabooans develop more quickly than other races. By contrast, Yoda's species develops much more slowly.) Natalie Portman and Keira Knightly, when in Amifala's make-up, looked so similar that not even their mothers could tell them apart. The sequence when Jar Jar is running away from the Boomas was inspired by a chase sequence in the 1925 Buster Keaton movie 'Seven Chances'. Ewan McGregor studied the films of Alec Guinness so he could copy his speech patterns as Obi-Wan. Andy Secombe, who provided the voice of junk dealer Watto, also studied Guiness' work, specifically his performance as Fagin in 'Oliver Twist'.

Prequels Hype! :D 39:40 - "Why haven't the Jedi thought of the double lightsaber": Remember that the Jedi are peacekeepers, not warriors. Their lightsaber are designed for defense, not for maximum lethality. In video games and other non-canon media however some Jedi DID employ double-bladed lightsabers like Darth Maul's. Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic for instance. 45:35 - "What does it mean he will bring balance?" - The Jedi didn't really either... Ultimately, it meant destroying the Sith, but not before wiping out the Jedi as well. 48:00 - "But he was a master and he died." - There's a lore explanation for that (besides Darth Maul's own martial prowess). The Jedi of that time used a form of combat called Ataru, which relied heavily on agility and Force-enhanced physical conditioning. This was highly efficient to end fights quickly, but very costly on energy in long-drawn fights, which is exactly what the fight with Darth Maul was. In other words, exhaustion was Qui-Gon's downfall. Later on, Obi-Wan enhanced and taught a different form called Soresu which focused on defense and resilience. This worked wonders against battle droids, multiple opponents and duelists who relied on more aggressive forms. 53:00 Funnily enough, the original release used a puppet Yoda, but it was heavily criticized due to how it clashed by the rest of the movie that relied heavily on CGI. So it was later changed to a fully CGI Yoda. The political elements was also why both episode 1 and 2 were criticized.

27:40 Anakin Skywalker happened. 30:25 Yes, Anakin is feeling what any other child would feel in his situation. But he has the ability to kill people with a thought. Notice him doing that in Empire Strikes Back. Jedi need to hold themselves to a higher standard even at that age. And speaking of, the real problem is that Qui-Gon wants Anakin to skip all of the early teachings that would be handled by Yoda for Jedi Initiates between the ages of 3 and about 10 and go right to the Padawan stuff which starts from maybe 9 (Rooper Nitani) to 16 (Dooku) and can go all the way to 25 or older. Obi-Wan is a 25 year old Padawan and no one has a problem with it. 32:30 No. This will help: “The core of the Force-I mean, you got the dark side, the light side, one is selfless, one is selfish, and you wanna keep them in balance. What happens when you go to the dark side is it goes out of balance and you get really selfish and you forget about everybody … because when you get selfish you get stuff, or you want stuff, and when you want stuff and you get stuff then you are afraid somebody is going to take it away from you, whether it’s a person or a thing or a particular pleasure or experience. “Once you become afraid that somebody’s going to take it away from you or you’re gonna lose it, then you start to become angry, especially if you’re losing it, and that anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering. Mostly on the part of the person who’s selfish, because you spend all your time being afraid of losing everything you’ve got instead of actually living. “Where joy, by giving to other people you can’t think about yourself, and therefore there’s no pain. But the pleasure factor of greed and of selfishness is a short-lived experience, therefore you’re constantly trying to replenish it, but of course the more you replenish it, the harder it is to, so you have to keep upping the ante. You’re actually afraid of the pain of not having the joy. “So that is ultimately the core of the whole dark side/light side of the Force. And everything flows from that. Obviously the Sith are always unhappy because they never get enough of anything they want. Mostly, their selfishness centers around power and control. And the struggle is always to be able to let go of all that stuff. “And of course that’s the problem with Anakin ultimately. You’re allowed to love people, but you’re not allowed to possess them. And what he did is he fell in love and married her and then became jealous. Then he saw in his visions that she was going to die, and he couldn’t stand losing her. So in order to not lose her, he made a pact with the devil to be able to become all-powerful. When he did that, she didn’t want to have anything to do with him anymore, so he lost her. “Once you are powerful, being able to bring her back from the dead, if I can do that, I can become emperor of the universe. I can get rid of the Emperor. I can make everything the way I want it. Once you do that, you’ll never be satiated. You’re always going to be consumed by this driving desire to have more stuff and be afraid that others are going to take it away from you. And they are. Every time you get two Sith together, you have the master, the apprentice, and the apprentice is always trying to recruit another apprentice to join with him to kill the master. The master knows that basically everybody below him wants his job. “Only way to overcome the dark side is through discipline. The dark side is pleasure, biological and temporary and easy to achieve. The light side is joy, everlasting and difficult to achieve. A great challenge. Must overcome laziness, give up quick pleasures, and overcome fear which leads to hate.” -- George Lucas, The Clone Wars writers meeting 2010

Cinematic technology had to catch up to what George Lucas wanted. And even then a lot of techniques and new cameras that have been developed were probably pioneered by the team on Star Wars. Or at least they perhaps had a hand in it. This movie still utilized practical effects and blended it well with CGI. But then later prequel movies were very CGI heavy, and almost nothing was practical, save for a stage the actors had to be on and costumes. A lot of actors that came back in recent Star Wars projects were taken aback by what they've been using on the stages, because they recall seeing blue screen almost everywhere during their earlier experiences Opening crawl TLDR: Politics are politicking, Jedi Knights have been dispatched and go brrrr. It always makes me laugh that the original opening crawl hit you with civil war, high stakes, and a pursuit. And then this comes out as a boring college lecture LMAO No yeah youre right. Anakin is a miracle child and basically space Jesus lol Theres a Star Wars Pod Racing game for the N64 and its on Switch now. Highly recommend trying it if you havent already Padme has 8 handmaidens I believe? If Im remembering correctly. Most of, if not all of them would be similar in stature and look. They are all privy to her political policies, beliefs, and deepest personal secrets and vice versa, so they can all step into Padme's place on the political theater if needed if Padme has to be elsewhere incognito. Keira Knightly's character is Padme's best friend and the closest to resembling her. When the movie released, even Keira's mother couldnt recognize her daughter off the bat. Theres a book trilogy called the Queen's Trilogy that goes more into depth about Padme and her relationship with her handmaidens. Its a really good read I'll never forget the cheer erupting from the audience seeing Maul's saberstaff ignite for the first time. Also welcome to one of, if not THE greatest song ever composed in Star Wars and maybe cinematic history lol 39:26 In Star Wars lore up to this point its a bit more common. You see it in later TV shows and books that follow. In the mythos, the first saberstaff was constructed by a Sith named Exar Kun, a former/fallen Jedi. He modified his original Jedi lightsaber into a saberstaff after obtaining schematics from a Sith Holocron (information storage bank. USB on steroids) Im glad you enjoyed Jake Lloyd's performance as Anakin also. The dude got some serious bad flak from this role. A lot of people thought his acting was pretty corny, and in some scenes it was, imo, due to the dialogue choices for his character. But he was bullied to no end because of it throughout his childhood and even by 40 year old men when the internet started really taking its place as a regular mainstream platform. Lloyd ended up landing in substance abuse and had a few run-ins with the law growing up, along with developing schizophrenia. He lives with his family now, seems to be doing well, and still remains a Star Wars fan despite the disgusting behavior towards him by the fandom. Ahmed Best, the actor for Jar Jar binks, also received so much hate for his portrayal of Jar Jar. It go to the point where he even considered suicide, but thankfully never went over the edge. I got the pleasure and privilege to meet him at a con last year. He's such a cool dude and has also returned to recent Star Wars shows and projects

Yea the Jedi are “the good guys” but it’s really hard to agree with their view on love. They frown upon Anakin missing his mother. Because in their minds you must let go of all attachment so that you can make decisions based on the force and not emotions. But I personally feel like that’s crap because it was Luke’s love for his father and Vaders love for his son that ultimately led to defeating the emperor on the last trilogy. And while I sound like I’m complaining, don’t get it confused…. This very conflict of ideology is something that I love about Star Wars. You can find fault in “the good guys”. When it was released this movie did pride itself for the amount of digital effects it had, leading many to think it was ALL digital. It does however, have plenty of practical as well, like prosthetics and the podrace arena for example, even C-3PO was a puppet with the puppeteer erased out. In the first release Yoda was in fact a puppet, but it was so bad that they later edited in an improved CGI version. Once you're done with this trilogy you should watch The Clone Wars animated series! It takes so many elements the movies touch upon and expand on them.

39:26 This is why: Despite all of the advantages offered by the weapon, its weaknesses were equally obvious. Special training was required to wield the weapon effectively, with those attempting to use it without such discipline likely to bisect or impale themselves. Attacking and parrying with the double-bladed lightsaber was limited by the fact that, unlike a normal lightsaber, one could not simply readjust their posture, as the saberstaff required them to hold it either horizontally or diagonally while fighting. The techniques employable with a double-bladed lightsaber were extremely limited, as the second blade rendered many positions and movements impossible to execute, or required the wielder to twist oneself awkwardly around the weapon to do so. Many techniques required the user to perform elaborate flourishes in order to move the staff around their body, leaving them open, and any sort of fighting method that focused on power or penetration was difficult to apply. Also, the enlarged hilt common to most double-bladed lightsabers presented a large target, difficult to defend. Opponents would often attempt to employ the sun djem contact mark, with even experienced saberstaff wielders being vulnerable to this tactic. However, a duelist who used the more contemporary saberstaff design had a fallback option in case of this; with a separate lightsaber mechanism for each emitter, at least one half of the weapon was very likely to continue functioning if it was sundered.

You're right, there is a bit more politics in the story (which makes some parts a bit boring, but Lucas felt the need to put these scenes to explain why the Republic eventually morphed into the Empire. And you're right again, Sith=dark jedis. You guess a lot of things in your reaction. Can you use the force & see the future ?🤣 About the double lightsaber, a jedi created it thousands of years ago, but turned to the dark side and brought it to the Siths. It was very difficult to master, and many chopped their own hands, feet & heads trying to master it, so the jedis banned it after losing too many of their own. Bringing balance to the force=destroying the only 2 siths, which he did in Return of the Jedi: Vader sacrificed his life to kill the emperor=no more sith left.

so the pod race, my dad and I went to see this on opening weekend (altough i saw it earlier the first day already anyway) my 2nd viewing. but he grew up in the 50s and told me the pod race looke a lot like the Chariot race in 1959s ben hurr, i found that online one time and he was totally right. lucasmust have loved that movie andpaid homage to it. as for the midicholorians and the force. nope. the midichlorians are NOT the force. the force is still a mystical energy field and is in all living beings, and things. that surrounds and penetrates us and binds the galaxy together and is an energy filed just like obiwan and yoda talkeda bout the midicholorians are the things that determine a person's potential in the force. or the concentration of it so when they said teh force is STRONG in luke's family he has it, his father has it, his sister has it. they kept tlaking about the family. this is why there is a genetic compoennet. think of it this way think ofa NBA basketball player if you had someone over 7 feet tall and was a top NCAA high jmper, spriner, and was super strong and had good skills like say wilt chamberlain did. he had tons of potential naturally to be a top level basketball player or just anyone very tall and athletic has a higher starting potential. but you can also be as good as someone if you practice it 2-3 times harder and more focused, that is why a person in the NBA like mugsy boges was 5'3 and still became a star. he trained harder than anyone and worked harder. this is kind of how that works.

The story i heard as far as why Lucas started with episode 4 was that he didn't think a sci-fi movie with so much politics would catch people's attention. So we get the yoda counting episodes 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9.

It's gonna be a long journey with more than 100 episodes... but after you watch the two other prequels, i strongly suggest you to watch the animated serie Clone Wars (and the animated movie too), even if you do it by yourself without reacting to them. This serie is essential to understand everything that happens later in the Star Wars franchise.

A lot of your questions get answered in later material though some are not in the movies and for those I’d recommend looking into the animated TV show “The Clone Wars” Also there is just plenty of other fun content out there in many mediums some from the old E.U. Essentially that is material from before Disney took over and then the projects Disney done.

Quokka enjoys things that I'm the least impressed with like the cuteness of everything and Jar Jar, like the kids who watch this. To each their own.

You are actually thinking things too narrowly. The story is really not that detailed because Lucas wanted this to be marketed to kids. The story behind everything is much simpler. Jedi make their lightsabers so it does not matter how someone has a lightsaber. In Star Wars the type of lightsaber can be anything really. Jedi and Sith have all types of lightsabers and really it just matters to who is writing the story. The Phantom Menace is actually the hidden Sith master not Darth Maul. The main bad guy is a third movie reveal. The age group for Star Wars stories is 13 to 16 if you ever listen to what Lucas wanted. He realized with the first three that this age group will gain the interest in the younger 5 to 12 age group with toys and merch as long as the movies had good action. This is why you see things like Jar Jar and Ewoks. Something for the younger people also. Also these origins to characters is really meant to be wide open so in the future stories can be told. Star Wars is not suppose to be a serious world building like Dune or Lord of the Rings but open for creation and marketing. Star Wars fans do not really like that business part of everything but Lucas was smart to give people what they want at the same time making a property that can grow and be expanded on.

I'm catching up after watching your OT reactions. I just love how quickly you seemed to be tune with Star Wars. The empathy, the humour, the depth, and the silliness. I grew up with the originals and I loved the prequels as they were each released. Glad to see you loved this one too. And also I had similar reactions to recognizing Portman and noticing when the "Queen" was not her. It was confusing until I realized what was going on (I think I had the idea, when Padme was saying what she said while on Tatooine, but certainly was fully rewarded when she made the big reveal, hehe). Not everyone notices faces that well, apparently (no one else I was with noticed). ❤

A double bladed lightsaber isn't necessarily any better than a single blade. You're limited in your movements in certain ways that a single blade isn't, since you have to hold it in the middle unlike even a real staff or polearm, where you could hold it in many places and not immediately cut your own hands off. It was introduced in the movies to be a cool "whoa this dude is special" thing, but in the overall Star Wars universe, Jedi and Sith used different lightsaber fighting styles depending on preference.

The force is an energy field, the midichlorians are kinda like microscopic divining rods that channel or sense the force, the more midichlorians in your cells, the more force sensitive you are. That’s how I’ve always thought of it.

This is why watching these movies in production order is the best way to watch the films. In addition to the production quality increase, the references to the original trilogy make more sense, like when Qui-Gon (Obi-Wan’s master) tried to use the Jedi mind trick.
