For those wondering, fawns will stay right where their mother left them and won’t leave that spot. This is a predicament for us rural folks trying to bush hog a field. You’ll never know pain until you’ve accidentally ran one over. It was my job as a kid to hold em until dad mowed over the spot.

Last year in the area where I live, deer are dime a dozen. Fawns are always being born. This time was different. The baby was a newborn, wobbling legs and all. The little one dropped behind my neighbors back tire. I watched the baby while surrounding neighbors came to see. We took turns watching the fawn. The cars owner came out and freaked out because she couldn't back up. Well, momma came back, and we left. Mom and baby headed off.

A lot of times you will find baby deer laying down in the grass alone, however please keep in mind that most of the time they are not lost and in fact just waiting for their mom to come back to check on them. Mother deer leave their fawns in the grass while they go graze. The mother deer always knows where her baby is and will come check on it, it is better to just leave them be.

Same is true for baby bunnies. Most wild rabbits in North America do not dig warrens and burrows. If you find a litter all hunkered down in the tall grass, leave 'em alone! Mama put them there on purpose. They're only around their children for about five minutes a day.

this is cute, but future reference for people (bc I just learned it recently myself): mother deers will leave their babies in a spot where they’re hidden away and safe and come back to them later. leaving them can actually be safer than bringing them with them bc the babies have no scent - if they’re together, the babes are more exposed to predators, so leaving them is safe! of course, if the babes wander off and get too close to roads and stuff, that’s a little different, but I’m just saying this all in case someone didn’t know :) I love this baby and hope they’re okay and it seems the men had all the right intentions (but sometimes human hearts and human error collide-I know this by firsthand experience)

Best to leave them be when they are found like this, as little fawns don't have a scent when they are born. The momma deer will hide her baby in a well camouflaged area, and without a scent, they are generally safe from predators. The momma will then come back for her baby later.

it sounds like a very unfortunate situation, this matters not. That mother was going to come back for that baby and if that baby was gone what was she going to do? She doesn't have a phone to call and find out where the baby is and she has no idea where it was taken. You leave the baby where it was left the mother will always come back.

If they are farmers and about to cut the grass they have to move the little one, because the machine does not give a f if it's cutting down grass or a living creature Where I'm from they normally let a hunter look for any bigger creature like fawns or rabbits and move them to safety They don't just do that for the sake of these creatures but because if one creature gets shredded you have to throw away the whole load, when the little pieces of corpse start to rott they release toxins that are strong enough to kill your whole cattle

Unless you see the mother dead, leave them the hell alone! Fawns can spend all day alone in hiding while the mother looks for food over a wide range. If you "rescued" this thing, you've probably screwed up massively.
