Looked like he was still wet with amniotic fluid. The mothers usually make sure they are thoroughly cleaned before they go off to feed, since the amniotic fluid has a scent that might be picked up by predators. Besides being scentless, (once cleaned) the fawn's only other defense is their ability to remain still and quiet for long periods of time. This one didn't get the memo.

Some of the comments here show that you know nothing about wildlife!!! This was not a pet. It was a wild animal. The fawn was new born, still had dampness on body. The mother gave birth to the fawn in a safe place away from predators which was in the mulch bedding next to the house. Then mother went to eat and get nourishment so she could feed her baby. She was close by. NEVER interfere with a situation like this. The mother deer knows what she is doing and the fawn was fine. The mother soon returned and cared for it.

Deer are such a food source for the wild, as soon as their born it's fighting for his life from Predators, coyotes, bobcats, foxes, bear etc

@@koneyisland1432 It's all about balance. They're adorable and cute (which is good) and then they get brutally murdered (which is evil). Life is balance between life and darkness. Also ironically they are overpopulated meanwhile carnivores are usually endangered. And the plant animals usually have eyes on the side of their on purpose to handicap them and make it easier for them to get caught unlike the predators which usually have eyes in the front of their face, like humans do as well. That's why we're on top of the food chain. We walk on two feet and have eyes in the front of our face.

This fawn looks like it was recently born. Mostly fawns would lay down still and don't do any sounds since mom is feeding and so, this one was walking and making noise, identifying this is truly an abandoned fawn that mother didn't want to raise it

don't worry if you find fawn like this, mom is close and will come back soon so don't kidnap it even when fawns walks to you it doesn't mean something's wrong, deer are naturally not the brightest animals

The mother came back for him. Read the description above. Does normally have the fawns, feed them and leave them hidden somewhere, only coming back to check on them and feed them until they are big enough to keep up with the mother. This one obviously didn't stay put and went out looking for mom. What you don't want to do with fawns like this is try to "help" them. They don't appreciate it, start to scream loudly, that brings the mom running back and many does have no problem with attacking you for bothering Junior. So best to leave the fawn alone. Mom will come back, track it down and take care of it.
