I'm still finding videos that I missed somehow ! I love the fact that when I find a video featuring an animal update that they are always family friendly and I can send them to my son for my granddaughters to watch. They love animals. Thanks for having a 100% clean channel always . I'm not concerned with the occasional live birth, that is life and we can decide if we want to use your video as an educational tool. Stay happy, healthy and safe. God bless

@Michael291605 жыл бұрын
Love the videos so I took the plunge and bought 3 goats. 2 of them are pregnant and one is open. Here is the problem I now have, one of the pregnant goats has a broken leg as of this afternoon, the front leg above the knee and it feels like a bad break. she is due sometime in January so I would hate to put her down. I have seperated her from the other goats and will wrap the leg but I don't think it can be set. I plan on letting her kid. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Michael @ Too Many Oaks Plantation
@ArmsFamilyHomestead5 жыл бұрын
I don’t have many suggestions other than what you have done. As long as the other goats can’t hurt her I bet she will surprise you at how fast she recovers.
@Michael291605 жыл бұрын
@@ArmsFamilyHomestead Thanks she is strong and safe from the other goats so we will let nature do it's thing I checked with the vet and he agreed I have done all that can be done. Thank for the help

Sound like my family when dinner is not made at 5pm sharp..LOL, but it sure gets quiet when they got there food. LOL How many goats do you have ? Do you get any predator problems (coyotes?)
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
I have 25 grown goats, some of the does are just a year old and were not old enough breed this time around. And so far I have 8 kids from this season.
@kan-zee7 жыл бұрын
outstanding. Can you put in one of your videos, some more tips on how you live sustain ably , with a Homestead family...from a male perspective ? thank you.
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
Well I don't mind at all, but I don't really know what you are asking me to show. I have lots of videos where I talk about where our food comes from: gardens, high tunnel, deer, rabbits, ets. What are you wanting to know more about?
@kan-zee7 жыл бұрын
My boys were curious as to another homestead man's perspectives are to the challenges , successes, ups and downs you have faced in your years in the field. Your videos are awesome on showing the materials of the homestead, but they wanted to know more about the inner mind developments of the homestead. The mental developments and benefits, of the homestead man.
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
Okay, I bet I can do something like that. I'll do some thinking on it and see what I can come up with. Ohh and I just realized I didn't answer one of your first questions. No I have never lost any goat to predators. We do have lots of coyotes and bobcats in our area but, I have a Great Pyrenees dog who watches over the goats. She must do her job pretty well because most of the year my goats are out on pasture and they roam all over about 100 acres.
@annkruml7 жыл бұрын
awww they're so cute and growing quick. does the momma get mad or try to bunt when you mess with their babies?
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
No the momma are pretty comfortable with me around the kids. Sometimes if a new person comes around they get a little more defensive but its not too bad at all.
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
I don't keep aggressive goats around long. I like for my kids to be able to play with the goats and not get hurt, so aggressive goats get sold.

What type of grain are you feeding? Is it a mineral pellet?
@ArmsFamilyHomestead6 жыл бұрын
I usually feed a 14% creep feed but last winter I started feeding a 4 way blend
@candicechristensen17537 жыл бұрын
That's a heck of a lot of goats! Holy cow! I didn't know you had so many. What breed/breeds do you have? Do you use them for milk, meat, or both?

Candice Christensen here is a link to a video from the other day that tell about our goats. We raise mostly Kiko goats and they are a meat goat. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2HUcoytbcidY5Y

At how many weeks do u deworm them or give any type of medication
@ArmsFamilyHomestead6 жыл бұрын
Most vets recommend the CD&T shot at 5-6 weeks old and then just once every year. I usually only deworm kikos when they look like it's needed.

What are the ear tags for?
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
I use them to allow me to keep records of all my goats. I like to track which does birthed which kids. It helps me in deciding which kids I will keep and which ones I will sell. Every goat also has a health report in a notebook so I can keep records of worming, shots, or any kind of health related issues.
@mick38057 жыл бұрын
Arms Family Homestead that's a great idea, thanks for that
@terryjones85887 жыл бұрын
Will you be selling any of your new does?
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
Probably so, I kept back 6 of the baby does last year and sold the rest. It really just depends on how many kids I end up having and how many of my older does I decide to cull.
@timkamholz10097 жыл бұрын
how do you wean the babies
@ArmsFamilyHomestead7 жыл бұрын
I usually just separate them from the mommas once they get over 90 days old. If they are on the small side I will leave them together a little longer.
