Baby Gorilla, Kayembe plays with Kunda #31. 1/9/24.

In this video , shot at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, you see the moments before and after Kayembe interacts with baby gorilla Kunda. Kayembe is very persistent. Sometimes he is patient and you will see sometimes he gets mad.
Kayembe was the first zoo born gorilla at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Kunda is the second baby born in Cleveland in less then 2 years.
Birthdates: Mokolo 7/10/87, Fredrika 6/5/74, Nneka 9/23/98, Kebi 1/13/91/ Tusa 12/2/89, and Kayembe 10/26/21, and Kunda 7/19/23.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

I think Kayembe didn’t have enough mommy time at his young age. He’s still looking for that but once moms have a new baby, the other is basically pushed aside for the most part. Gorilla babes are usually with mom a majority of the time through around 5-6 years old. He will have a little playmate soon enough. ❤️❤️

Oh my days❣❣❣ Kebi actually allowed Kayembe to touch baby's feet.🤩🤩She's such a wise, careful mother and knows that wee Kunda is becoming robust enough to handle a little interaction now - provided Kayembe doesn't get too boisterous, of course. 😄🥰 I guess that, like us, she's had concerns about Kunda's fragility. And - in all fairness - Kayembe does get very, very excited about his new sister, bless his heart, even though he tries really hard to be a good boy. It's not easy to self-regulate when you're only two. 😆❤❤❤ Another fantastic film, Larry - thank you SO much for 16 minutes of pure joy! 🤩

😄Wie bei den Menschenkindern. Kebi reagiert sehr gut. Es ist sooo interessant, was der große Bruder macht. Kebi ist vorsichtig, aber Kayembe möchte bei Kebi und Kunda sein und mit der Kleinen spielen. Kayembe ist ein "Wirbelwind". 🌬 Für Kebi ist Kayembe unberechenbar. Er möchte doch nur mit seiner Schwester spielen. 🥰❤❤❤

Yes, but that is a very interesting story. You see, Kayembe’s birth mom is Nneka. Kayembe was born 6 weeks premature and his birth mom did not show proper maternal care for him (she walked away). Fredrika, who was 47 and had raised 4 babies of her own, walked over and picked the new infant up and has taken care of him ever since. Kayembe came down with pneumonia and recovered from that. I started a whole series of videos on him… look for Baby Gorilka-Kayembe #1 and so on … be sure to check out Kayembe video 8-1/2 where in my description below video I give the link to a zoo presentation about the birth and care of Kayembe. You will be amazed! Fredrika has been a wonderful momma for Kayembe.
