All of this was revolutionary at the time. Rock and Roll was in its infancy and Elvis was King.

Elvis represented rebellion in a time period where respect and manners were deeply held social norms. His dancing was controversial and tv stations only wanted to show him from the waist up. Fascinating when compared to the so called performers today.

Just for everyone's information, I live in Memphis and I asked George Klein about the sweater Elvis wore in this video years ago because I had never seen Elvis wear anything like this before. George was one of Elvis's closest friends and Elvis was the best man at his wedding. George told me when they colorized Jailhouse Rock which this scene is from , they actually guessed at what color to make Elvis's sweater. George said the sweater Elvis wore was actually blue. He said Elvis hated the color green and would have never worn a green sweater. George was an extra in the movie and a part of Elvis's entourage and knows for a fact this was a mistake when they colorized the film .

Some of the earliest electric bass in a rock n roll song, and legend has it that Elvis is the one who played that bass line on the record. Bill Black (seen in the video playback-miming on his double bass) was frustrated with the new fangled electric bass, so Elvis supposedly picked it up and played the song himself.

Your authentic scream was the best. Some people say… “Elvis’s dancing was nothing special” That’s not why we love it so much. It’s not that he was such a great “dancer”. It’s how everything he did was so friggin’ cute and/or sexy. He wasn’t inhibited to just do what he felt like. And it just so happened his timing and musicality was spot on. Add that smile, his playfulness, his stature, his presence, charisma, his looks (Oh, and That face!) THEN SHAKE 😉 And Wa-La MAGIC! But his impeccable musicality (automatically know when to move to the beat and what instrument/singer where and when), his looks & his charisma are top 3 for sure. 🕺🏻

Nice jacket! I always liked this song. My favorite from this movie was "You're So Young and Beautiful". Every time I hear "I Want to Be Free" from this movie I think about a friend who was a couple of years older than me when I was about 14. He got drunk one night and was thrown in jail overnight for underage drinking. When his mother and older brother went to pick him up the next morning he was sitting in his cell singing "I Want To Be Free". Funny thing is he looked just like Elvis, but he had dirty blonde hair. The funny thing is, so did Elvis, and you could see it in some early pictures of him, even in the color cover of the first release of the King Creole LP, the hair dye seems be wearing off slightly and the roots are a bit lighter.
