Vertiginous slopes keep ibex families safe from predators but they need to descend to flat ground to drink and this brings them in contact with a fox. This gives us a spectacular sight of mountain goats (baby ibex) as they scale perilous cliffs to escape a hungry fox.

I think this is a combination of very strong and versatile hooves and a very light body weight. Underneath that hair they are pure muscle, tendon, and bone. No extra weight. You can see how the hooves change directions with the surface shape and inclination. But they must also be relatively light so the friction is enough to keep them in place even on very steep slopes.

It's unbelievable how sure-footed these young goats are. I guess it's their lightweight also, that gives them wings almost. Defying the pull of the Earth, they can know an unstable spot in advance and yet use it as a transfer to a safer spot. What wise instincts, I'm impressed.
