Baby Jameela #8. with Baby Kunda - April 20th

Today, April 20th, I'm visiting the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to see Jameela, the baby gorilla that came from the Fort Worth Zoo. She is now with her foster mother, Freddie (Fredrika) . Most of the video is of Freddie and Jameela. The other half is the 9 month old baby Kunda with her mom, Kebi (Kebi Moyo).

Kayembe was the first zoo born gorilla at the Cleveland Zoo.
Kunda was the second baby born in Cleveland in less then 2 years.
Jameela was the first baby born via c-section at the Fort Worth Zoo
Birthdates: Mokolo 7/10/87, Fredrika 6/5/74, Nneka 9/23/98, Kebi 1/13/91/ Tusa 12/2/89, and Kayembe 10/26/21, and Kunda 7/19/23, Jameela 1/5/24.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

@@larrysanimalsafari It blows my mind that these animals have such a highly developed affective domain, they beat us humans at it. Freddie, despite having another baby still pays attention to Kayembe, stretching her hand for the warmth of physical contact and giving him a ride on her back when he demands it. Some of us can't manage such depth of affection. Awesome Jameela knows not how lucky she is to have a foster mum. It's wonderful work the zoos do to conserve what their fellow humans can freeze in just a few decades.

It's incredible how Fredrika has such a highly developed maternal instinct. Jameela and Kayembe are very lucky to have her as a foster mom and now they are full of several babies who will be very naughty and will keep the whole family very busy. Plus, the fact that she's the equivalent of 80 in human years is - wow. 🎉🦍😂❤ Let's hope someone carves a beautiful statue in her honor one day. Fwiw, I've been following the HERD channel, too - it's an elephant/rhino orphanage in Hoedspruit, SA. In the last few years, a herd of 17 elephants on a reserve has adopted two calves who were both at death's door - one, just a few months ago. 🌍🍼🐘🩵 Seeing the tiny ones thrive, cared for by elephants who were also orphaned years ago is extraordinary.

Fredrika has not given birth in many years. She began to lactate after caring for Nneka’s baby Kayembe. Nneka didn’t care for K, but Freddie picked him up on his first day and has cared for him ever since. Kayembe still nurses from her so she has been producing milk for 2 years.

Kayembe is anxiously waiting for the babies to be old enough to play with him, he will be soooo happy! I think Freddie is very happy to have a new baby, and what luck that she’s lactating how awesome is that❣️ Kunda says mom “I’m a big girl now you don’t have to worry about me “ lol

Thanks Larry. 👋🥰 Yes the energy of the Mokolo troop indeed seems relaxed and it’s wonderful. It looks like whatever training the staff did with Kayembe to stay calm around the baby really helped. He is not giving Freddie too much trouble as she holds the baby and relaxes in the hammock. Great job zoo staff in having the troop harmonized so quickly with the big change and their new precious member baby Jameela! Good job new big brother Kayembe and big (little) sister Kunda!! 🦍♥️

Ya know, as I've watched Jameela's story, and some.ither great ape foster moms, it seems like we can learn a lot about this. Even with our nonhuman primate cousins, we see how important having a mother is AND how maternal love transcends biology. Thanks for allnyour hard work Larry to bring us this beautiful footage. Freddie is the best of gorilla moms. She steps up and wonderfully cares for the babies whose moms can’t take of them. She is so smart and has a beautiful gift. WOW!! Fastest 9 1/2 minutes I've experienced in 72 years! I can see it now, in a few months Jameela and Kunda teaming up and giving poor little Kayembe a bit of grief. I love how gorillas, chimps, orangutans just “get on with it”. Like, if they see a momma not taking care of the baby, another female will just take over. It’s quite fascinating really.

My heart was glowing💖seeing the heartwarming intimate scene between Freddie, Jameela and Kayembe Larry🥰this zoo can be proud of such a wonderful S-mom as Freddie; she is so caring and remains calm, overseeing the situation especially when our little stormtrooper comes busting in to have his share with sweet little Jameela😄🤭🥰Freddie knows how to control him in a very experienced and calm way..Kayembe is more calmer with her when holding Jameela compare to Kebi with Kunda..Good to see everything is ok and peaceful, the family is doing great and little Kun is getting stronger by doing excersises on the mesh💪👍😍beautiful footage Larry!👏👍🥰🌻🌞
