The Baby K'tan Baby Carrier Hug Position is great from birth and up. This position holds baby upright, tummy to tummy with the wearer, with legs free. If baby does not yet have head support, you can use one of the loops to support his/her head.

What do you mean by stretching their legs? I have a 1 month old and he was born at 5 lbs 15 oz and 18” so he’s finally almost 8 lbs and is 4 weeks old and I have my carrier arriving tomorrow so I wanna be sure I don’t do this position before he’s ready.

Hi.. I bought the black original cotton baby ktan in size xs (I’m only 5’2) and the fabric isn’t that stretchy. I feel like it’s too tight for my baby. I bought another one in a size small the gray one and it’s kind of big for me also but the fabric has a much better stretch to it. Is there really a difference between the color fabric?

That fabric is nice one I ordered sucks, uncomfortable and thick material. No stretch and it's hard move the fabric to position with the lack of stretch. I ordered the black fabric.

What exactly is the bag sash for besides extra support?

Hi Blue, the sash is used for extra support and security. It is required in certain positions, but can be used with any, if you'd like! When you are not wearing your carrier, you can fit inside the bag/sash so everything stores nice and neat.

Hi Merari. The sash is required in certain positions, like the Hug and Adventure Positions, where baby's legs are free. You can purchase a sash separately on our website under accessories, or you can simply use any long piece of fabric (like a scarf) that is long enough to tie around you and your baby for additional support.

What if you dont have the sash? Is it totally necessary?

Yes, the sash is necessary in the Hug & Adventure positions. We like to say "feet out, sash on". You can purchase a replacement sash on our website: www.babyktan.com/sash. The other option for you would be to use a piece of fabric/scarf that you can tie around you and the baby for the support in the Hug & Adventure positions. If you have the correct size, the following tips will help to tighten up the carrier: • Wash/dry your carrier. The Baby K'tan is designed to tighten up in the wash, so this is recommended before the first use and every so often. • Before placing your baby in the K’tan, take a moment to adjust the carrier - pull the loops down so that they are not high up by your neck and spread open the fabric to ensure that the loops are not twisted or bunched up. • Try the Hug Position. Although the manual says that the Hug Position generally starts around 1-2 months, this is simply an average. Many individuals and babies prefer to start this hold earlier on or even skip the Newborn Kangaroo position all-together and go straight to the Hug Position. This is based on personal comfort and preference. In the Hug Position, baby's head can be supported by one of the loops by your shoulder and you simply adjust the fabric between baby’s legs to spread it open as wide/narrow as needed. • Flip the fabric by your shoulders. Folding/flipping the fabric on your shoulder(s) will help tighten up the carrier a bit. • Use your sash for additional support. Tying the sash tightly around you and your baby will provide additional support.

Hello is this position safe for new born?

Yes. You can use this position with a newborn. Simply spread the fabric between baby's legs based on his/her development so that baby is in a natural seated ("M" or squat) position. You can tuck baby's head into one of the loops at your shoulder to provide head support (ensure that baby's face is visible and always has an open airway). I hope this helps!

Hi Chay. Yes, the Baby K'tan Baby Carrier is approved by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute as a hip-healthy baby carrier. A hip-healthy carrier will allow baby to sit in an "M" position (fabric reaching the bend in baby's knees, and baby's knees at or above the level of his/her bottom). This will look sort of like a "fetal" position for a smaller baby, and like a "froggy" or "squat" position for a bigger baby. Hi Cason, she is wearing a size XS in Original Cotton. The Baby K'tan will stretch a bit with use, so a snug fit is important. After a lot of use, if you'd like it to fit more snugly again, you can simply wash and dry your carrier and it will tighten back up!
