Also, I agree with you on the DHP and the substrate: my gecko’s had those two for a bit over a month, and has successfully shedded twice without any stuck shed! It’s amazing how you can see proof about how beneficial the DHP is and I bet the naturalistic substrate helps a lot too! Can’t wait to see what future holds for Maui 🤩

Firstly, I wanted to say thank you for all you do, you’re truly inspiring. Also, I purchased Donut Mess with my Gecko in tie dye and so many people have asked where I got it from. 😃 Happy 5 months Maui!!🎉🦎💕 It’s crazy how quickly they grow in the first year! We just added a new member to the family and the size comparison of him or her( we aren’t 100% sure on the sex yet) is so tiny compared our one and half year old female Pippin. Based on our newest Leo’s behavior, we have a strong sense it’s a boy, especially with feeds and handling. Our female was active as a baby but was still much calmer and to this day she’s extremely chill. Also, our youngest gets super excited and greets us with big smiles at the door of their rank.

My boy Pippin is roughly the same age, he likes to jump, too. But not like yours, no; he tricks me into thinking he's chill, typically while I'm taking him back to his tank, and then he takes a running, flying three foot leap onto the floor, and then play dead for a moment just to give me a heart attack. 3 out of 4 yeets have been successful, with no injury incurred. I anticipate yeet number 5.

I found one that someone thought could survive in the wild while camping. She kept followin me like "Help me!" but I thought she was a weird Salamander because of her white coloring. Saw her three times out&on the 3rd time asked my wife to take a look. Turns out she is the Raptor variety of Leopard Gecko, who we took in&she is happily now thriving with no more white, as she loves meal worms&I only feed her wax worms once or twice max a week but do occasionally catch a house fly as a treat which she loves! I was amazed she survived as in N. California we have Alligator Lizard's&Rattlesnakes etcetera. Good thing she had a water source our campers AC condenser&she had to have eaten something due to her having a bowel movement not long after we took her in. Named her Loki after Alligator Loki but had to change it to Lady Loki once we determined her gender. I spoil her&love her dearly. They make wonderful pets&can be a great investment 'IF' you spend about $7K on two Black Geckos that go for $2,800-3,800 depending on the gender as the males are rare&harder to acquire. But look amazing! Even 'IF' I eventually can buy a breeding pair to get started? My Lady Loki will ALWAYS have my heart as she is genuinely sweet to me&my family but is definitely my girl who loves to fall asleep in my hoodie pocket while I keep two fingers on her careful to make certain she has plenty of air. Wife is crocheting her a harness&leash too!
@nightinggale64703 жыл бұрын
Just letting you know: Waxworms are very unhealthy and should be a rare treat only (once or twice a month max). Mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. House flies and other wild insects can carry parasites. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better. Also, I don’t recommend using a leash and harness with a leopard gecko, their bone structure is very fragile.

Causing him to go into his other hide. And I heard thatll make them scared of their new owners. So I've just been putting my hand in there for him to get used to my presence. Any tips on what else I should do? He sometimes feeds from my hand and checks me out; other wise I'm a little scrambled on what to do as hes my first I've actually had to tame. So I'm not used to this myself . I'm not forcing anything on him but...help?

I have also had issues with succulents in my bioactive. I had a big bunch of my elephant bushes die on me simply because the roots are too small and my gecko often tramples them. I have found much better success with standard pothos and spider plants. Both do well with a weekly heavy mist. Currently I have majority pothos, spider plants, and air plants with my remaining elephant bush, crassula ovata, and watch chain succulent. The pothos and spider plants are just impossible to kill and look nice imo although basic.

I’ve also commented this on your Instagram but I’ll put it here too. I recently bought a leopard gecko from a store and the store supplied us with woodshavings for substrate and I’ve heard its not any good at all ( gecko is 4 months old approximately) and it’s currently in its vivariam with wood shavings since we don’t have anything at hand but what would you suggest? The heat mat is struggling to warm up the heated side of the enclosure and we aren’t sure if it’s the substrate or not
@nightinggale64703 жыл бұрын
Wood shavings are definitely no good. New geckos should be quarantined on paper towel for the first six weeks to monitor their health. After, good options include zoo med’s reptisoil, a mix that’s 60% top/potting soil and 40% playsand (or a soil/sand/clay mix), Arcadia earth mix arid, or Terra Sahara from the bio dude. Heat mats are not a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. @@nightinggale6470 ah I’ll look into that substrate! Only issue with heat lamp is my vivarian isnt tall at all so I’m not sure if a lamp would even fit in it. I completely agree with the person above, take the woodshavings out straight away. I can’t believe somebody at the store seriously gave you woodshavings. Lol did they just mistake your leo for a hamster or something? It’s important to keep your animal on a sterile set up for a month or so to monitor their health, use paper towel to also monitor their poop. When they get older and you’re more confident, definitely move them to a lose substrate for texture and so they can dig, etc.
@Elena-jj6eb3 жыл бұрын
@@emilyholliday5479 Also if you can’t buy a heat lamp atm and are struggling with the heat mat, you could try using tile as the substrate, it will conduct the heat from the heat mat well. It’s also cheap and easy to clean, it will work fine until you’re able to change things. Also make sure that your heat mat is warm enough, using a thermostat and a thermometer. It could be that it’s not the right temperature :)

Where are you planning on getting the gecko from? Be sure to quarantine them on paper towel for the first six weeks to monitor their health. After, switch to a suitable loose substrate (like a soil/playsand mix) and overhead heating.

CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? I get my juvenile leopard gecko on Tuesday and I can’t decide if it’s safe to use moss in his humid hide. I use reptile carpet for the rest, I just placed a bit of the terrarium moss (sold at petco) inside and around the humid hide. Is that safe for a juvenile?

I love the little freckles on his chin ❤❤ he has gotten SO BIG! Question:my baby leopard gecko is still very skinny, how do I get him to gain weight?
@lilypeck22443 жыл бұрын
Babies normally are thinner and thicken out as they grow, wax worms are a fatty food so they'd be good to help get some weight on :)

I want to build the perfect 20 gallon tank for my gecko because i’m taking him to college next year. He’s about 3-4 months old now and currently in a 10 gallon tank. I don’t know what the best possible options for my gecko when it comes to building the perfect tank on a semi budget?? help please
@nightinggale64703 жыл бұрын
A 40 gallon would be ideal. Also keep in mind that most colleges don’t allow pets.
@leopardgeckotalk3 жыл бұрын
Yeah double check you can take him. The reason I had Lyra is because her previous owner was going to college to become a vet and had to get rid of all her reptiles 🥺. You can always look for second hand tanks, you can usually get them for a fraction of the price. Just make sure you thoroughly clean them with a reptile safe disinfectant :)

@@leopardgeckotalk Thank you!! Where do you think the best place to look for second hand tanks?
@cadenlippincott33533 жыл бұрын
@@nightinggale6470 You can use 10 gallon tanks but if you’re using anything bigger you can make your pet an emotional support animal for college.
@nightinggale64703 жыл бұрын
@@cadenlippincott3353 you can get cheap secondhand tanks on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Try to get a 40 gallon.

They should be fed daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months, and 1-2 times a week over a year.
@xander53013 жыл бұрын
How many crickets and mealworms do you feed him (I have a six month old gecko)
@nightinggale64703 жыл бұрын
At that age you should be feeding every other day until he’s a year old, then less often. Feed as many feeders as he’ll eat in fifteen minutes. Around 6-10 is a good amount. Keep in mind that mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. Live roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Super worms and hornworms can be fed occasionally (if you can find ones small enough). The more variety in their diet, the better.

I know this is off topic but I was thinking about getting led lights in my room, and I’ve tried Googling it but nothing is popping up, do you think it’d be safe to have led lights in my room if I have a leopard gecko in my room?
@Elena-jj6eb3 жыл бұрын
They should have a clear day & night cycle, as long as you turn the lights off at night it will be fine :)

First I want to thank you for all the work you do to put out all this content and secondly I wanted to ask if feeding my baby geckos once a day is enough? You mentioned feeding them every day as babies but do you feed them once or more a day as babies?

ahhhh, I have an 11 month old leopard gecko and their about the same size as yours. Are they stunted? If they are, what should I do?

Just give them a healthy diet and a good setup and they’ll be fine.
