Really helpful refresher as I don’t use my machine as often as I should and so always having to check settings. Hope you’ll do more tutorials on the Desire3. Thanks.

Good refresher. Please do more tutorials on the Desire 3. I’d like more on the extra feet, accessories and different types of decorative threads 🧵.

Thank you for this video. I have found it very useful having struggled with the cover lock side. The instruction manual is not clear enough with the basics and I have experienced a lot of problems. I bought my machine from a sewing exhibition a few months ago and the dealer is not near enough to give help. The video is so clear and detailed I am now getting results. Thank you Katy

Katy, this is a fabulous video and very helpful to those of us who had to buy sight unseen. I had big problems yesterday when coverstitching some jersey material. I was able to talk to lovely Lucy at Sew Essential, where I bought my machine from and she helped big-time in solving the issue, but each tutorial gives a little more information and is always there to refer back to. More please !!....

Absolutely fantastic and informative video, thank you, Katy. I've been using this machine for just 3 years now, and love it. Jan's brilliant video taught me how to use it originally, as I bought the machine in Lockdown (so no classes), and had never before used any kind of overlocker, so I watched Jan's demos over and over and over 🙂. I've run through most of the stitches the machine can do but I find if I use a 5 thread "safety" stitch, I have to keep threading the chain stitch after coming off. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?

I believe a straightforward fix is to leave a longer thread/chain. To begin, ensure there is sufficient thread length (4-5 inches). As the needles form the stitch, they pull the thread down. Without a long enough tail, the thread may slip out of the needle's eye. The same applies to the chain looper thread - as the looper moves back and forth, the initial thread should be long enough to account for this movement.

A great refresher. I'm so glad I bought my Desire 3, it's a game changer. One quick question - is there any way of knowing how tight the gathering will be when I adjust the differential? If I wanted to reduce the width of a skirt panel by a third for example, how would I know what number to adjust the differential to in order to get the right amount of gathering? Apologies if there's an obvious answer.

We're glad you enjoyed the video. With regard to your question, when the Differential Feed is at its highest setting, it should operate at a 2:1 ratio. For instance, if your fabric strip measures 10 inches, it should gather down to 5 inches. We suggest experimenting with the DF settings on fabric scraps before using them. Begin with 10-inch strips and test each setting to observe the reduction. Various fabrics will gather differently based on their thickness. A lightweight cotton will gather much better than a sweatshirt fabric. We hope this is helpful.

Did you cut the threads with your tweasers? What tweasers do you use?
@babylockUK3 ай бұрын
I used thread snips which are readily available from most sewing outlets.
