I AM WOMAN | Season 2: Episode 3
In Episode 3, Michi Marshall, Kijafa Vick, Aja Crowder, Sharelle Rosado and Alexis Welch give there take on what it takes to make a bended family work. Sharelle opens up and shares what has worked for her and Chad “OchoCinco” Johnson’s blended family. She believes that communication plays a major role in it’s success and gives first hand advice to others in similar situations. Kijafa shares here perspective and stresses the importance of women “letting go” in relationships to be able to begin putting the children and family first.
The conversation shifts as the women share if they would date a man with children from a previous relationship in they were single.
Chef Tre joins in and serves up “Brookies” for the cast while giving his personal take on blended families and dating women with children from previous relationships.

It would be really helpful for someone within healthcare (doctor, nurse, NP, PA--preferably a black woman) into this conversation. I think it would have provided additional context and really help move the convo forward and provided much-needed perspective from the vantage of a health care provider
@eryn5826

Exactly because honestly I think it was irresponsible to have such an important conversation without said expert in the room because just listening to them, some of what they said and were hinting at was wildly inaccurate like the Nicki Minaj situation. Nicki's conversation about the vaccine didn't actually have anything to do with the vaccine and was a deflection and very harmful. Kijafa was hinting at ( vaccines causing autism or symptoms of) which has been disproven time and time again. But I guess if the setup of the show is showing how to have these conversations with your friends then hey ....

I'm currently training in medicine and plan on going into anatomic and clinical pathology after medical school. Very few black pathology physicians. However, I might go into primary care as an internal medicine physician or family medicine physician, but my gut, heart, and brain seem to be in agreement that I should specialize in pathology. Here are some of my non-medical licensed opinions (I did past my first of many medical license exams though). I wish the general public was just a little more literate in science and health. The world would be so much healthier if so. In the first few minutes, one of them said they tested positive for covid19 antibodies and she said she still doesnt know if she had covid 19. Here's a quick lesson, if your body makes antibodies for covid19 then that means by definition you were infected with covid 19. It just means you were lucky to have no noticable symptoms or possibly no symptoms because your body's immune response cleared the virus without you noticing it. Second lesson, most viruses, fungi, bacteria, worms, prions, and other infective living or non living things (non-living includes viruses, prions, etc) dont actually make you feel sick during infections. It's actually your body's immune response that causes inflammation, fevers, coughs, sneezes, etc...which all serve to help clear the infection by physically doing things that make your body less comfortable for the infective agent...unfortunately that frequently makes us feel horrible...otherwise known as being sick. In general, over the counter medications for colds, flus, etc work by suppressing our immune response to make us feel better. Sometimes it's the case that you will recover more quickly from the flu or something if you dont take medicines. Sometimes our immune systems are over reactive and cause more damage than necessary and you should take immunosuppressive medication...or you just need to work to earn money and you gotta tell your immune system to chill 🤓. Also keep in mind medicine practices vary by countries for this reason sometimes. For instance, in the USA we generally treat ear infections with medications (that's starting to change now though) but in the UK they are less likely to treat ear infections with medication. Anyways, I do appreciate that these wonderful, smart women are taking responsibility for educating themselves. let's get more health/science literate!

The comment made by Mrs. Vick about women not wanting to "let the relationship go" is SO TRUE! I'm actually planning to write about my own experience based on the ugliness, bitterness and selfishness of a woman and her family not wanting to let a man go - when evidence has shown & it has been proven - that the relationship was very much over. It is truly tragic, not for the adults, but for the children (as stated in the discussion).

in dating a man with kids, things to be considered (should also) be: age of child; # of children; & relationship w/ child’s mother. dealing w/ a man w/ multiple kids means his time will constantly be divided (even on holidays)… $$ will constantly go out of home (esp. if married). i tend to pref 1 kid or 2 with same mom & over 5+ yrs old. how he speaks of his kids mom & how they relate ultimately holds the most weight.

Please be mindful of your rights as parents and mothers to opt for delayed immunizations for your children. Consider delaying the MMR vaccine until your child is verbal and able to ambulate independently (walk)before having it administered. It’s less likely to alter, delay or regress speech development and compromise ambulation as well as the development of fine and gross motor skills. It’s okay to request that your child’s vaccination time line be extended or you can determine your own time line. You do not have to follow the medical timeline if you are not comfortable. I chose to offset all of my children’s vaccination schedule. There is a correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism/PDD in early childhood.

Men have more apprehensions about dating a woman with a child because the child is typically with the mother more often. Very rarely is the dad the primary caretaker. So it’s an issue of sharing her time and availability with a child that’s not his. I am open to dating men with kids but I can understand this point of view because the times I’ve dated a guy with kids he had every other week vs a guy with kids he had full time, the dating process was different. For context, I’m 36 no kids and able to come and go freely. But bc I want a family I’m in the mind frame where I’m open to working with either circumstance provided he knows balance. This is difficult as a full-time single mom or dad but it can be done.

This. I was surprised no one mentioned it. Like as a man generally if the woman is a good mother she is going to have the child a vast majority of the time. As opposed to men depending on the situation may just have them on weekends or may only have visitation rights. As for me personally I don't want children so I just prefer to date woman without children because because I like my life child free. Though I am open to a woman with one child, but more than one is a dealbreaker

I’m gonna answer Michi’s question about why a lot of men don’t wanna deal with women with kids. The true answer is that the mom is too overprotective of her kids to where a good man who’s trying to instill discipline and guidance is not allowed to do so in many instances. It can and usually becomes a very toxic and unbalanced relationship where the mom is constantly making excuses for the bad behavior and poor decisions made by her kids. The ultimate slap in the face to a good man trying to take on a responsibility that isn’t naturally his from the jump is, you ain’t their daddy and these are MY KIDS. Unfortunately, too many women wanna be their kids best friend and not their parent based upon their own experiences with their parents or lack thereof. Obviously there’s a few exceptions but for the most part, it’s a big issue. Facts 💯

And no one should have to explain to the world why they chosen either. Peoples medical business is their own. I also believe no one should feel on the outs because they aren’t getting it. Folks have underline health conditions that may require them to be unable to get certain vaccines.

Something isn’t necessarily considered baggage if you don’t have to carry it with you. I feel men with kids are perceived differently when it comes to dating and relationships because they usually tend to not have custody of the kids so their availability, ability to be spontaneous, etc is vastly different. People value time and in this “me, me, me” society many want to feel they are a priority. Women, unfortunately don’t have the luxury of doing so in most instances because the child will come first when they are with you; as the child should.
