Thanks for the great video! I just observed a baby mocking bird falling/flying out of the nest, and he was the second of two. Oh how busy those two parents became keeping track of and feeding two. Your video reassured me that at this stage of no or little flight, they’ve “got it” and are figuring it out. Your presentation was informative and delightful!

So great to hear! Yes it can definitely be distressing to see a baby bird falling and wondering if they will be ok or need help! But in this case the parents are almost always close by watching that baby❤️

Thank you for this informative and entertaining video! I’ve been watching mockingbird antics (including almost knocking a squirrel out of a tree) in my front yard for months and today started hearing a strange chirp I didn’t recognize. Turns out it’s a baby mockingbird! I enjoyed learning more about them. We’re in Fresno CA.

Same here, in Vallejo CA. Been watching the fledglings for days, and saw one fly today.

Great video. I came here after seeing fledgling mockingbirds still in their nest after 18 days and wondering when they will take off. They have no more fluff and still waiting to be fed....hmmmm...kids these days! Freeloaders 😂

I tried to save one today at Higgs when it was pushed out of nest but landed on pavement. I was headed over to the wildlife area with it when it died. I tried to revive it but it didn’t survive. Lately the birds have been swooping my shiba inu on walks.

Yes sometimes they just don’t make it😔 super sad😢 you did your best in trying to save it though ❤️ -and yes the parents are definitely aggressive if there are babies nearby!

Great video!! Did you say nesting in late winter I’m in Florida? they are nesting now some fledging now:) around my yard:) just read it’s also spring? Maybe yours are winter babies 😆

Thanks I appreciate it!! So yes in a general sense it’s spring but breeding season starts here in south Florida as early as February (late winter) to early spring. We get babies very very early. Spring of course is when things really heat up but we have babies fledging by march/April even at times down here.

@Karina-nc6uj late winter like February/march, and they continue into spring and summer. I’ve seen babies very early in the keys.

Up here in Tennessee their hopping out of their nests everywhere. Some we've been able to get back into their nests others we've gotten them to a bird sanctuary who rehabs them until ready to fly in Kentucky

How long do the parents feed the fledging for? The baby has been fledging for about a week but he still squirms for food 😊?

Question I have babies about 10 feet up in a tree how will the leave the nest if they can’t fly?? Won’t they get hurt??

They hop around and flap on branches until they can fully fly. Parents stay with their babies for quite a while too and feed them until they get up to par.

A baby was sitting around in neighbors drive way, she said she always finds dead baby birds in her drive way, and theres a lot of stray cats, the dad was near by but the baby wouldnt move for hours. So my sister and i took it inside…and its night time now so hes sleeping in a makeshift nest we made in a bird cage for him. Should we just let him stay till he could fly? Stray cats will definitely get him otherwise.

Sorry to see this comment so late-I would take them to a local wildlife center if you see an injured bird. Otherwise they are very fragile and difficult to keep alive.

I have to water my grass and tree’s late at night. Because we are in a drought and they don’t want us using water.

I climbed a latter built for 225lbs. I had to get on the to plastic step that says do not step🤣 to reach the nest. I got them all back in. Both my legs should be broken after a 6 pack🤙🏻

We’ve got a murderus cat in the neighborhood I love animals but Ferrell cats kill like 300 birds a year. What should I do I’m in a new neighborhood 5 year old houses.

I agree people should keep their cats in the house or porch...but yes unfortunately we have a ton of ferals as well. :( Best thing we can about that situation is getting them all fixed so they dont have more babies to increase the population.
