In my opinion the reason is that money is pretty generic and anything in a similar key with any common notes sounds the same lol. The horn sound was pretty similar and when you put all that together the two sound very similar, but the reason it sounds alike is because they're both just pretty generic choruses.

If you asked me 2 weeks ago what the biggest debut of 2023 would be I would’ve said Babymonster hands down regardless what song they debuted with…but even with all the pre-debut hype and YG privilege this song isn’t doing as well as expected and I think it’s bc YG’s tendency to recycle their girl groups has finally caught up to them. The money sample was a slap in the face to blinks who are STILL waiting on contract renewal news and it’s not lost on us how 2NE1 was forced to disband after a “newer, younger, better” girl group debuted…YG needs to play their cards right (especially with blinks) or both groups will suffer as a result

And all I meant by that statement was that based on all the pre-debut hype: the survival show, the unreleased songs, the speculation about how many members would be in the group bc of YG statements, etc. I assumed babymonster’s debut would’ve blown any other debut out of the water in terms of popularity and chart performance. And I didn’t praise them at all in my og comment, in fact I did the exact opposite, I stated how YG royally fucked up their debut and could continue to fuck up their career if they don’t pull their heads out of their asses and actually give baemon a unique concept rather than continuing to use hand-me-down sounds and styles from their past girl groups

It's definitely the most underwhelming debut song from yg..it felt like they put 0 efforts in their debut and it's saddening this is what yg does hyping us up like they're gonna put out the best sh*it ever but throw same old sh*t that was in the drafts for ten years..Blackpink debut song, treasure 2ne1 big bang winner ikon all of their debut songs were screaming yg even if the song wasn't good enough their aura and presence were dominating and could easily stand among respective generation.. Baemon debut felt flat like any group could've done that.. Itzy, nmixx gidle even groups like new jeans Ive lessarafim had a stand out point.. The problem is they don't have a standout point.. Yes it was a decent song but was it a masterpiece absolutely not.. Did the girls look pretty yes of course ...did they had decent stage presence and beautiful talent heck yeah but is their stage presence or talent something that can shake the kpop industry, or they can be the kpop standards no they're not.. In simple words I don't think they can make a huge impact among audience and rule the kpop industry or I don't think they can peak the charts with this and be that monster rookies and be in competition with current 4th gen groups (ik they're 5th gen) .. But idk man yg ugly media play will surely make them a phenomenon if they want to.. Sorry for the long a** rant... I was thoroughly disappointed and dissatisfied as I was looking forward to it the most

It's not bad; it's just dated. YG can have a style of music they're comfortable with without recycling the same sound over and over. The style of girl crush that YG popularized has just been done too much now to be interesting when it's applied to their new groups. If you're gonna reuse the same formula, maybe try something more like Really or See You Later rather than a failed imitation of Money or Boombayah? Something that feels more playful rather than in-your-face (in an age appropriate way, of course). Idk it just doesn't compete with other debuts we've had in the past few years like Fearless, O.O, Black Mamba, Attention, etc. It isn't even memorable like Wa Da Da or So Bad. It feels like a pre-release or a b-side. I can understand why people like it, and this is no hate or shade to any of the members at all; all shade to YG only. Baemon deserved better.

The fact that the group’s name, babymonster, is originally a scrapped name for Blackpink tells you everything about this group imo. YGE really lacks in creative direction and all those years to create this new group they just couldn’t come up with a name, song structure or concept that just doesn’t scream mini blackpink. I mean i knew that they were gonna be called mini bp regardless of how good the debut was. they still could’ve had a gc concept but still stand out. Them being from YGE and having a gc concept clearly isn’t the actual problem. What YGE did amazingly with BP was how well they gave “characters” to the members and made them stand out. But baemon just feels like a copy of BP cause they just look like the same “character” that bp except cheaper.

While I agree with this, you forget that BP was already a "mini version" of 2NE1. The archetyping in both groups was so similar and very obvious: Dara/Jisoo - the 4D visual CL/Jennie - the badass rapper and fashionista Bom/Rosé - the girly main vocalist with the super unique voice Minzy/Lisa - the Maknae dancing machine YG saw what worked in 2NE1 (girlcrush concept, badass image) and ran with it. It worked that one time with BP because they were more marketable than their seniors ("prettier", closer in age to their fans, less opinionated, more glamorous), which can also be attributed to the crazy development of social media and Kpop in general (brand deals etc). But it won't work a second time, especially since the market has been absolutely saturated with girl crush. YG missed the trend train by half a decade.

I’m not denying the obvious similarities with 2ne1 and bp. Yea They basically have the exact same archetypes. But i think yg has gotten better with building characters over time so they were better with portraying those characters in bp. Obviously 2ne1 making it popular in the first place and then having better budget, kpop being more popular and bp fitting kbs much more hugely contributed to bp’s success. That’s why people say BP is the more popular, “better” version of 2ne1 but bm is the “reject” version of bp. They just need something new with bm. I honestly think the girl crush concept isn’t the problem. Yea it’s veryyy overused but if done well and has other aspects it can still be fresh and enjoyable. That’s basically aespa. They also have a gc concept but they also have other aspects to their concept (like their aes and stuff) so it doesn’t feel as overused and boring. It’s fine that bm is also gc, that’s the company’s whole thing at this point that they do not have cutesy groups and imo it’s okay that they are gonna keep it that way. But they can still make it more creative and interesting with adding other things to bm’s concepts.

XG has nothing to do with YG and never did other than renting one of their dance studios for Move #1. XG has always said they were under XGALX, their label. XGALX is a Subsidiary of AVEX. AVEX is partnered with YG since they formed YGEX together. AVEX also formed a partnership with SM in 2001. XG doesn't have anything to do with YG though, their funding comes from AVEX but they are directly part of XGALX.

Some parts were so pretty like the pre-chorus that, I think, Rora and Pharita sang (idk them so correct me if i'm wrong) sounded beautiful and really suited the vocal colors of the girls. The two raps after the first chorus we're also really solid in my opinion, those parts really showed the potential and talent those girls have... and then it all gets ruined by that god-awful empty chorus and tired chanting in the end used by every YG artist since freaking 2003. What's frustrating to me about this debut is that it HAD the potential to be good and show us who the girls we're but YG wanted to use the Blackpink formula too much to actually give us something original and interesting.

Idk what YG thought to keep trying to make new versions of Big Bang and 2NE1 for all the artists that came after them. It worked up until Black Pink and now he needs to stop before Treasure and Baby Monster becomes a real flop. Like I expected Baby Monster to have a vibe like how New Jeans/Les Sserafim has but I made sure not to have high hopes after I saw the battle up teaser. Like these girls are ages 14-20. Light hip hop/rnb works better. This is old but idk if any of y’all watched mix nine back in the day, one of YGs black label producers made a song called omona for the girls and it was an easy going hip hop/rnb song that was catchy. Their producers are capable of making trendy/catchy easy going songs, they just keep doing the YG formula for some odd reason. Hard music intro first, same music sounds recycled, rap comes first or middle, catchy chorus and same rinse and repeat dance break where they yell out lyrics and dance hard.

Even the line distribution was so Blackpink inspired like the dysfunction reeks of what they’ve done to both Jennie and Jisoo. Jennie is the main rapper but sings more than she raps and Jisoo has to handle parts in Rose’s vocal range…same thing happening all over again with poor Babymonster.

Well, o.o is still indeed considered as the worst debut song by many people as lapillus isn't a popular group at all in fact a lot of people don't even know them while nmixx is a group by one of the big 3 so it's safe to say that theirs was far the most disappointing between the two since a lot of people expected a lot from a group coming from jyp. Imo, batter up is one of the worst debut song and the expectations were quite higher than nmixx because of their pre debut activity and bp's reputation so the disappointment was higher too. Imagine, baemon having more vocalists than rappers but the rap part was considered as the only good part of the song by many people.

About the YG vibe... I'd say they look like kids/very young teens wearing older sister's clothes and make up. Like it's literally how I'd imagine my 14yo sis would look like in my (22yo) stuff. Also the last chorus/outro in the style of "YGE house party" feels suprisingly anticlimatic to me. It falls so flat that for me it basically kills a song that sounds already basic

In an effort to not comparing themselves to Blackpink, they compare themselves to 2NE1....and not in the most flattering way. We all have to except that YG Style (which may i add feels so outdated) is never going to change unless money start not going into their pockets. We’ve only heard one song but I agree. Feels like instead of making a song that suits the girls and their strengths, it seems like they just used a beat that was originally made for BP that BP ended up not using. The song was too similar to what YG has done already. The girls are so talented and have so much potential. I hope YG does better with them. I know it’s a very controversial opinion but I think the line up of this group is completely messed up. I know Yg isn’t even able to manage one girl group while JYP is able to manage 4 but I think he should let Ruka (main rapper, main dancer), Pharita(vocalist, visual, lead dancer), Ahyeon (lead vocalist, lead rapper, center, maybe visual?) Haram(main vocalist) debut now as a group. In about 3 years he could debut Asa, Rora, Chiquita and 2 other trainees preferably a strong visual center like Wonyoung and another rapper/main dancer in another group. Rora & Chiquita wouldn’t be kids anymore (17, 18) and Asa (then 20) could have the main rapper role for herself. They could have 2 girl groups with members in appropriate age and everyone would have their role cause many Babymonster members just get lost in the line up.
