We received some rescued turtle eggs to incubate and release, but we have no idea what species they are!! We had to wait 3 months for them to hatch to find out!

Can we take a moment to appreciate what Ed and Emily did? They raise snakes, and that's undoubtedly time-consuming, plus cleaning and feeding their snakes. Despite this, they helped a clutch of wild turtles hatch and released them back into the wild responsibly. They had no obligation to incubate these turtles, yet they went out of their way to help them. That honestly says a lot about them.

Ugh! It makes me so annoyed that the kids were digging the eggs up. I know some arguments can be made that they are just kids and curious, but if an adult told them to stop and they didn’t, that’s a whole different ballgame to me. I don’t know how old these kids were, but I would especially be unhappy if these were bigger kids 10 and up and still poking on them after an adult said stop. Thanks for stepping and helping Emily (and concerned neighbor)!

Aww, reminds me of when my daughter, "the nature child" she is stumbled on a rattlesnake nest an like the turtles the other kids found out an were trying to poor kerosene on the eggs an set them on fire just becausethey were rattlesnake eggs. She kept them at bay long enough for her dad to get home an find a way to protect them as the kids had chased off the mother (or at least that's what we assumed not 100% sure on that as it was a long time ago.) They came up with the genius idea of moving the raised tool shed over the nest sight where snakes could come an go but no kids could reach. Proud of her, just because they are poisonous doesn't mean the little danger noodles don't deserveto live, or be set aflame for that matter. An it was amongst the countryside so they were not going to be bothering anybody. I'm glad you were able to rescue the turtles, wish more parents would take the time to teach the importance of wildlife an to leave them be so long as nobody is hurt or threatened by the wildlife.

Yesterday, I was walking with my sister, and we encountered what I'm pretty sure was a baby bullsnake. Just chilling out in the middle of the road. Probably a bit cold since he wasn't all that interested in moving. We ended up having to pick him up with a stick to move him so he wouldn't get run over. I'm really thankful to Emily that I had the knowledge I needed to know what kind of snake he was - which was very exciting considering how many bullsnake babies I've seen hatch on your channel - and I wasn't scared of him, so I felt comfortable helping him. Thank you SO, SO much for helping me not be scared of snakes anymore. It used to be that I would be scared of even the harmless and small ones, and now I'm getting better. It's great!! Seeing how comfortable you are around your snakes - even the grumpy ones - and how passionate you are about taking care of them, it's really inspiring. Maybe someday I will have a snake of my own, but probably not any time soon. Maybe I'll make friends with someone who has one and I can hang out with it. :P Again, thank you so much, Emily!!!

Though in nature, let's be honest. Predators have to eat too, and sometimes in a cluster of baby animals only a few of the babies are going to make it sometimes, it's sad but true. But hey, that's the circle of life for you guys. Some people are just a little sensitive about it sometimes, but at least we all know that's how it goes in nature. It's not like a hawk is going to become vegetarian, they have to eat meat. A snake can only eat meat too, anyone reading this and has a sensitive mind, I hope you understand what I'm saying.

When I was teaching at a large childcare center, we had woodchips delivered that included a turtle nest. Since they were already removed from the original site, The 4 preschool classes divided them. I did the research, and found out they were native snapping turtles, so I marked them and put them in an aquarium with woodchips and Sand and a heat lamp, lightly misting them every day. Out of 5 eggs, 4 hatched and my classroom and I released at a nearby creek. Two of the classrooms just put them on a shelf for the kids to explore. The fourth classroom wanted to try hatching, but didn't follow my directions and none hatched. It was so exciting for the kids to see them hatching and be part of the release. Did you know that newly hatched turtles have special vision that makes them run toward water reflection? Also, the temperature of the eggs determines the sex.

I did that once with a at least two dozen snapping turtle eggs. They were in a farmers field that was going to be tilled and they would have all been mushed. The farmer also didn't want the turtles on his property so I hatched out a high percentage of them and released them in a different pond a little bit aways from his property.

"I assume, as you're pretty tired of watching snakes hatch on this channel..." WOW, the first time Emily has ever been wrong! But yes, turtle hatching!! When I was 12 I got my first 3 pond sliders, I was super excited when one of them started showing egg laying behaviour. I gave her a place to dig and she did lay 2 eggs, but apparently it's very rare to get them to hatch. I don't know if it's possible they were not even fertilised? I had 2 females and one male. I am now 32 and had to give up turtles and tortoises for my doggo persons. This is so cool anyhow!

Ainsley Ort they’re wild animals and could introduce illnesses into captive species plus their intent was to release them from the beginning but they did end up cutting open the remaining three and found that they died further proving the point of her not helping in the first place🤷🏽‍♀️
@ainsleyort3631
@ainsleyort3631 5 жыл бұрын
Grungophone The DNR agent originally said they could keep them and they said they would adopt them out if they were an invasive species. And I meant if she had taken the three eggs out that first day when it was obvious they wouldn’t be able to get out on their own and opened them they may not have died. The babies probably died because of underdeveloped egg teeth and they drowned. From my perspective, it seems like if she had opened the eggs they might have survived and been able to be raised in captivity.
