This brings me back to my Mojave Desert days WAAAY back in the 1970s. We use to camp outside California City. And hunt... [catch snd release ].. tortoises, lizards and snakes. It was a great time and I learned so much. Luv the Hogs... my favorite is the King Snakes .😉

I'm glad you got to see the pine snake. I could tell that you found the hognoses a bit passe, but I never get tired of them, especially when they scoot. Those sand roads look like they'd be great to ride horses on.

Great video Noah! I just loved the baby pine snake (I love black and white animals)! All of the hognose snakes and the two tortoises were awesome. Everything in your videos is always amazing! I wish you would take a road trip up to New York and show me some snakes......but not now, it’s too cold! 🥶Take care and keep the good stuff comin! 😄💙🐬🐊🐍 P.S. I love how the hognose snakes scoot! It’s cute and funny 😆!

My son found a sizable hoggie in our back yard, here in southeast NM. It’s markings were quite similar to these cuties. Haven’t seen another one in twenty years, and that makes me sad.

On the intro w/ baby pine snake there looks like there is a giant long snake lying across the road just beyond, at least from the perspective of a phone screen.

Down here in south central west coast FL if you come across a gopher tortoises on a country road, they haul ass away as fast as they can (pretty fast).

I am not familiar with the gopher tortoise, so I looked it up. They can live 40 to 60 years, reach sexual maturity at 10 to 20 years, adults are 8 to 10 inches in length, on the threatened list, fire ants are a threat to eggs and hatchlings, burrows can be more than 40 feet long and 10 feet deep, range from South Carolina down to Florida and west to the eastern edge of Louisianna.

Since you're curious , as someone from central Florida who's seen thousands of gopher tortoises just wanted to tell you they actually get a little bigger than what you read..I've seen quite a few 14 inches or a little more that weighed over ten pounds..wild hogs are another serious threat and eat many eggs - other animals also eat many (raccoons, etc)...the most serious threat is development - most of them are gone from the county I live in , there were thousands when I was younger..the vast majority of gopher tortoises live in Florida - where we're unfortunately burying them under houses and malls and gas stations (the tortoises habitat is the dry sandy "uplands"- dry and buildable)

How much difference is there between a southern hoggie and say a western/plains hoggie? Are they more just local based? because I know eastern looks a ton different then a southern.

It makes me so sad to know that people purposely run over wildlife-any wildlife, but especially gopher tortoises?! Like what the heck, man. I know sometimes it’s impossible to dodge an animal in the road without wrecking your car, so it happens. But people that aim directly for the critters are a special kind of jerk. We have ducks at our neighborhood pond that just arrived one year and made it their home. Some kids will purposely run them over if the duck is crossing the street too slowly. 😢

Apparently, if you really want to really want to see something just talk about how you never see them in the area. Then...boom.
