It's so sad to see how much of Florida is being recklessly "developed". Im hoping our next governor understands that Floridians across party lines want responsible growth (upward not outward), clean waterways, and roadways made without radioactive material (not exaggerating at all, look it up.) Until then, do all you can to fight for conservation and stand up to the sugar industry, Tavistock, and the fertilizer industry.

Dumb snake guy here. Would a coyote or some other scavenger get sick from eating that rabbit after it was bitten by a venomous snake?
@richardhincemonКүн бұрын
No Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes inject venom from hollow tip fangs. Venom can be injested as long as there's no medical condition such as open sores or bleeding ulcers exist. Poisonous toxins on amphibians and few snakes can cause problems if injested.
@FirePuncher18319 сағат бұрын
It would be fine snake venom doesn't do anything when drank or ingested unless you have an open wound in and around your mouth or stomach

I love your videos! As a young man growing up on a ranch in West Texas, my friends and I frequently went 'snake hunting', or as you say 'herping'. Unlike you, we often handled rattlesnakes (western diamondbacks, prairie rattlesnakes and the occasional blacktail) How we ever lived to be adults, I'll never know. We used to put out boards and pieces of tin to 'flip' on our ranch. My kids, who also grew up in Texas, used to have lizards and snakes in their pockets. When my youngest son was about 6 years old, I caught him emptying the snakes out of his pockets into a terrarium in his room. I asked him..."How many snakes do you have?" He said "I _had_ eight. Now, I think I have six." "Where are the other two?" I asked. His answer...🤷♂ My wife got used to finding snakes and lizards in the laundry basket and carrying them outside. FWIW, when we got older, we also 'road cruised' and our most eventful cruising was early in the morning. Diamondbacks would be stretched out on the road 'digesting' before it got too hot.

Hi Noah, Happy New Year from France !!! Lets 2025 bring us a lot of cool videos 😁 I have a question, maybe silly I don't know. If the rabbit killed by the rattlesnake have been eaten by, lets say a fox or a bird of prey, will they be affected by the venom or does the venom lost its toxicity after a while ? I was wondering because when you poisoned rats and they are accidentally eaten by a cat or another kind of predators they die. Since I know that I do not use anti rodents poison anymore.

Is it common for d-backs to eat carrion? If the snake that ate the rabbit didn’t make the initial kill, then it just happened upon an already dead rabbit. Is this well-known behavior?
@NKFherping2 күн бұрын
It's possible that this is the first time it has been documented, although a lot of snakes have been documented eating roadkill and EDB's are a well studied species so it is also possible it is well documented. I have never heard of it myself.
@cedarwaxwing35092 күн бұрын
@ Thanks for the response. Nothing takes the place of actual field observation when it comes to animal behavior! I’m sure you are plugged into the academic herp network; crotalid researchers would probably be interested in your observation. Keep up the great work; that large, engorged EDB was a truly magnificent animal!

You gotta love the adorable opossums. I had a large male for a pet who I found as an injured baby. He had damaged nerves in his left arm and an open cut. I tried to release him when he healed up but he came back and wouldn't leave. It's probably good that I kept him because he had permanent weakness in his left arm. He lived with me for 6 years before having to be euthanized because of cancer but 6 years is very elderly for an opossum.

Remember when you found that corn snake or ratsnake who was eating that chipmunk? I can't remember which snake it was but technically a corn snake is a ratsnake.

Thought they didn’t eat in the winter?? Am I missing something? Or do diamondbacks roll differently? Great video Noah
@NKFherping2 күн бұрын
Diamondbacks are well documented eating rabbits during the winter, this is actually the second time I've seen it. But it never gets any less surprising to see, especially in this area that represents the coldest part of their range.

It’s elementary! The dumb rabbit went into the wrong hole for shelter. Got hit with a massive dose, probably multiple times, then collapsed as it tried to wobble out of the hole.

Seems possible that the bigger rattlesnake was very close to you and staying out of sight while you checked out the kill and an innocent bystander snake. Came back when it was clear.
@NKFherping2 күн бұрын
Possible, but I'd guess that bigger snake never came out on the first day. We only found it the second day because it left a very distinct track coming out of the second burrow, a track that wasn't there the first visit.
