However this little red squirrel just came around about a week ago so it was really quick before we became close friends lol. Maybe because it’s a baby it is more trusting. And I think I was also more trusting too because it was a baby. So I glad I did this though. It’s so fun having a squirrel on my knee. I wish I could stay out there all the time lol.

@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling I have alot of nuts too and spend alot of time outside trying to earn their trust..i get alot of them and they wait for me to feed them, so cute..i just hope 1 day I can pet one or at least take nuts from my finger..so happy for you and it is so enjoyable seeing and hearing them, then I get to see my KZbin friends too..ty😊

@@crystalmoreland4701 Maybe you just need to make them work harder for the nuts🤷🏼‍♀️ lol. Keep throwing the nuts closer to you. They will keep coming closer if that’s the only way to get a nut. Thank you! This is the first squirrel I’ve had climb up on me and it is crazy but I’ve pet three red squirrels before I ever pet a gray squirrel. Who would’ve thought 🤷🏼‍♀️ lol. The reds are so crazy but I think because the are so bold they are less scared so they are easier to approach.

Lil Baby figured out the pecans pretty fast. Do you just sit really still?

Really I just lure them in by throwing nuts closer and closer but now I have so many coming to me I think the new ones just learn from watching the other ones. So when this baby came close to me I just put six or seven on top of my foot until it took them and then I wedged a couple of hazelnuts in a wrinkle I made on my pants leg and then next up on my knee. I do sit still for the first few times of doing stuff like this but after that I think they realize I’m not going to hurt them and then they start pushing me around for nuts. 🤣

And I never did this before because their nails are so sharp that I was scared to get scratched but it’s so cold outside now so I wear 4 pairs of pants so I figured it would be fine lol. Not sure what I’m going to do when the summer comes again. 🤣

@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling they do have wicked sharp claws but just like our nails really. Might get a scratch they don't mean to do. They trust ya. I've had my finger tips in their teeth a lot "they prolly look like a nut" but even that doesn't hurt. I learned to not make a big movement or get scared when that happens. 2 way street. Gotta have trust. You're doing very cool videos. Keep it up! It's fun

It's funny how the squirrels wanna turn the nuts around before they bite into it. It must be a way for them to hold it with their teeth. The baby squirrels sound different than the older ones.

I have discovered that squirrels top nut is the pecan, second is the hazelnut, and third is the walnut.

Over here I think the favorites are walnuts and pecans are tied then hazelnuts then almonds and last peanuts. Although I have noticed at different times of the year that changes sometimes and then they really like the hazelnuts.
