I think their latest works are in that gateway ground but they have some very interesting stuff too including some heavy ones, i recommend "The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound" which is not that heavy but it is very progressive, some tool inspiration in there, and it is a 3 parts played in one go! its amazing work, and i love it :)

idk man I feel like the heavy parts of The Mara Effect are as heavy as any of their other songs, the heavy parts are just a small percentage of the overall song
@johnce6853Ай бұрын
@@darkphoenix2 Yes objectively, its nothing special but i think precisely because the heavy part has so much buildup it hits better, i think one gets numb and used to the growling if done too much, so i think adds some good dinamic, but it is at the end a personal preference.

Historically one of the reasons metals bands have to sound good live is that they didn't get much radio play in times when radio was the main way for people finding new music. So bands had to throw solid live acts to expand their fanbase. Nowadays with KZbin and whatnot the situation is a bit different, but being good live has remained as one of the benchmarks against which new bands are judged.

So many people are exposed to Spiritbox's recent stuff, but their early sound is still more interesting to me. More musically complex songs like The Mara Effect (all three parts) and The Beauty of Suffering are still some of their best songs, and Trust Fall is like the original Perfect Soul if you ask me. The newer stuff is much better produced obviously but it all kind of runs together for me compared to the much more eccentric and experimental stuff they did in their earlier years.
