Baby Sea Turtles Hatching at Fort Fisher North Carolina

Each year, female loggerhead sea turtles make their way to beaches all along the Atlantic Ocean to lay their eggs. After creating their nest and laying around 100 eggs, the mothers return to the ocean and wait for their eggs to hatch and make their way to the water. But these hatchlings must overcome many obstacles and avoid predators before they make it to their final destination.
Thankfully for them, scientists and volunteers at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area dedicate their time and knowledge to protecting these turtle nests and turtles throughout their life cycle.
