Baby Swimming Basics

Check out our baby swimming video of Lulu at 20 months of age. All swimming lessons must be taught in a fun and happy environment where we build baby’s confidence. The aim of early learn to swim lessons is to develop a love and respect for the water. Baby swimming should be done in a safe and secure environment with active adult supervision. All children should be allowed to progress according to their own individual readiness. Swimming skills are taught using a building block approach. We follow the basic skills of water familiarisation, breath control, submersion, floating an propulsion.

This swim teacher is excellent. My son’s swim teacher was horrible and not encouraging at all, and was more concerned to finish the session so she can see the next client. The children’s first experience in water makes a huge difference in their confidence and how they progress. Good job. And Lulu is an enthusiastic learner. Good job Lulu ⭐️

That whole sequence with the “starfish” and the “shell,” Lulu was so engaged! It’s so cool that she got to take charge of her learning in this part, while under adult supervision of course. 😊 Plus, it’s adorable 🥰!

I like the way she teaches, the other guy gets the kids to float etc., but in a much more tense way, with the kids crying. Not a fan of that. One baby was really cold and shivering and he made him go in the Water again. That's the problem,most Men don't have a gentle way with kids, unless maybe they are the Dads, not always then.

She’s adorable. I plan on teaching my LO to swim (considering professional lessons, too), but curious about goggles. When did she start going underwater? Do babies under one need goggles and do they like them ok? I was an 80s baby so I didn’t use goggles but because I was a fish my eyesight became really bad and I needed glasses/contacts by 9 years old! I don’t want to ruin my babies eyes like mine (plus the initial burning I remember like yesterday lol so what do you recommend? Thanks in-advance. 👶🏻 🐠

Once they start going under water a lot you can introduce goggles. A pool that is well maintained shouldn’t hurt your eyes. When I teach swimming I put my face under water a lot with the children so I know how they feel. Some people are certainly more sensitive to it. I just don’t like children to be reliant on goggles if they fall into a pool with out them. That’s why I try and do some work both with and without them every lesson.

Good idea (practice with and without goggles). That’s interesting about a well maintained pool not hurting your eyes. I used to swim as a child in an Olympic pool and it always burned my eyes, turning them red in the beginning, but the burning stopped not too long after swimming. I wonder if they weren’t maintaining their pool well now. 🤔 🧐 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🤷🏻‍♀️ I prefer goggles, especially since I ended up having to get glasses at such a young age from swimming SO MUCH and now I invested in LASIX to fix my eyesight. No more glasses or contacts. 👀 💯
