I heard this smells like Vanilla Barka from Amouage, which is also done by Ropion. I am a huge fan of Vanilla Barka but the $500 + price is steep, but it’s such a beautiful and intense scent that I just keep going back to it.

Barka is nicer than Babycat. The vanilla is better to me. If you smelled No 5 by Rosendo Mateu, E, you probably have a great sense of this one.

Yeah if you already have Barka then save your money. Unless you’re a crazy frag collector then go for it. Babycat leans slightly feminine compared to Barka being pure unisex IMO.

great review, haven't smelled this but it's on my radar. apparently Vanagloria from Laboratorio Olfattivo by Ropion is very similar to this aside from the price.

The new Cuir is quite different from the black bottle version. Ironically it smells much more “leathery.” Babycat is so good, though. Love it.

I really like to watch your videos smelling the fragrance, it's great to dissect it knowing exactly what you're smelling, a fantastic learning experience. I knew it was going to be 9 bottles out of 10, you put it exactly the way I think of it, not a masterpiece but a damn good comforting fragrance that makes you feel instantly good when you smell it, and even if I don't wear fragrance for compliments, it's a compliment monster. The new Cuir is disappointing and far from its predecessor. Not that it was supposed to be a flanker, but a basic leather, albeit a good one but lackluster. I’ve been trying to get the original Cuir for years but all I can find are auctions pushing 6-700$ a bottle.

Great review! For me this one felt definitely overhyped, Babycat is nice but I was expecting something closer to Eau Duelle or Bois d'Arménie.

Recently, I have the impression that this fragrance is practically everywhere, especially its clones, which I am very skeptical about... It's nice to hear your opinion because I trust your nose!

Does babycat better than Ani ?!! I am looking for sophisticated vanilla not just vanilla, I had Ani and I had the same reaction as you when you smelt it , so basic nothing different or unique, also I found the opening so so muschlin on my skin and stayed for almost two hours, I didn’t even like it 😢

I hate to judge one vs the other. I'd pick Babycat over Ani personally but I don't have a huge testing of either scent so I don't think that's fair.

I LOVE YSL Babycat 🤎 I live in Norway and I tried a decant before I bought it. But I had to get it through a friend from the UK. She shipped it to me. For me, it's the ultimate. I keep purchasing decants of different fragrances. Niche mostly. But this has me teary eyed and I get goose bumps!!! 😭 I want to find out what the magic blend of notes are that I love so much. I love all of it! And the soft blend. The opening.... I looooove the pepper, but it's the olibanum and elemi with the saffron that makes me love the peppery opening. Then the heart.... The pepper is sort of gone, and the blend of elemi resin, olibanum and saffron, but the vanilla is even more present. Then you quietly loose the incence and pepper, but I guess it does a job still. Noe it's an addictive and dry blend of all of the notes. The suede accord IS the saffron and elemi I think. I just loooooooove it so so so much!!!! Now hoping I get the same feelings with Penhaligons Eau the Audacity. Can you do a review on that? Thank you!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It was just a little over the top for me. A little on the strong sweet vanillic side, but it has aspects.I really like. Turn up the benzoin and slap in some labdanum, and I would be sold. But I digress...

Interesting you said Ropion is a copy paste artist. I agree but this time I feel he copied the late, great Rosendo Mateu. This and No 5 are so similar to my nose. Trim the florals and they are basically the same. It’s nice but it’s not new.

I love my baby cat ! and if you get a full bottle you’ll probably fine the projection is pretty good, I had two people at my work buy bottles because they could smell it on me and I was 6 hours into my shift and I didn’t over spray .

Cheers Marc , yeah this one certainly sounds like it will garnish a lot of positive nods in my workplace for sure ,however at the price I fear all nods will be out of their own pockets lol 😅, a steer clear from mainstream on this one for me . Great review man ✌️🙏👍

I've been shying away from this one because of the name. I've even avoided other reviews of this because I see the name and automatically assume it's civet cat pee vibes. Will definitely sample now thanks to your review.

Wouldn't be surprised if Vanagloria, Vanilla Barka and this one are just mods of the same fragrance. Hey, if it works (and sells), it works.

Exactly, but this begs the question when will the fragrance industry finally clamp down on copy/paste each other. I'd love to see copyright on recipes at some point.

Why is it that you cannot trademark the DNA components of a fragrance? Guess you would have to consult a patent attorney for the answer. It would almost certainly put clone houses out of business.

Have you tried Vanagloria from Laboratorio Olfattivo? It was also created by Ropion and is in the same vein as Babycat, but it has this sparkling effervescence in it that I just love. They have a lot of great frags, especially in their Noir collection, and are an unbelievable value for their price.

I own Babycat and also Rosendo Mateu no5. Do you think Vanagloria is different enough to justify a €80 purchase for a 100ml?

@@jasper8088 No, I don't think I would recommend doing it. It's very, very similar to Babycat except for a fizziness in the top that I don't get from Babycat. As always, though, I would recommend getting a sample and trying it yourself because you may perceive it differently.
