This BaByliss Pro flat iron just quit all of a sudden. Here's a look at the internal workings. Hopefully I will figure out what is wrong with it but it is nogreat loss ifit is never repaired

I just fixed a similar model (Babyliss pro nano titanium). Mine wouldn't turn on at all. Problem was bad through-hole soldering and design. The heating plate on the same half as the controls had lost one of its four connections. Three of them were proper through-hole connections which stayed just fine but because of a lack of clearance the fourth wire was just tacked on top and had come loose. I also took the opportunity to clean the rotating power cord connection with isopropyl alcohol since it looked like a varnish of hair products had built up on that connection. That connection looks like it's pretty high resistance even brand new.

That was a great repair my friend. Sometimes we get lucky like that. Congratulations on the repair and thank you for your comment.

How did you open it? I'm having issues getting the bottom circle clasps off. Once I figure that out I should be able to repair mine

I just pried it off. Note that I don't have the same model as the one in the video. Mine had a cover over the hinge that was made out of stamped sheet metal. It was held in place by two or three tabs. I probably used something like plastic gift cards to pry it off without scratching the painted metal.

@@charlien84Thanks for your reply! I figured by the time you replied I would have figured it out. I'm inside the unit now and see the fault! Thank you so much though, I'm sure this info will help others!.

Agree with Radionut63 on the heaters burning out. Bit like irons as the ceramics eventually go. Was that black stuff in the handle casing soot or just paint over spray ? Like the mug Andy very nice.
@Tobinindustrial9 жыл бұрын
+fredintheshed1 I suspect that soot is cooked hair spray. It is beige in color and has stuck to the inner casing. there is traces of it along one edge also. Good eye there Fred. I saw that and should have mentioned it to explain that it was not caused by an internal meltdown or something caught fire.

All I wanted to know was how to get into the damn thing, and that's the part you left out.

And this iron has been tossed in the garbage. It was taken apart, if I recall correctly by using a spudger or a thin blade to pry the two sections carefully apart. If there is no screws then it snaps together and apart. Good luck. Let me know how you make out.

Did you fix it ??? Mine is doing the same , my 5 year old got mine wet and now it’s won’t heat up. I’m so sad. I have another flatiron but it’s not as good as the one that’s broken. I want mine fixed!!!:((

Sadly, my repair would cost me more than to buy a new one. The ceramic heater plates burnt out. The heater plates to buy separate were more expensive than to actually buy the flat iron new.

HOW WOULD I KNOW HOW DID YOU OPEN IT
@Tobinindustrial6 жыл бұрын
It has a couple of round plastic lock collars I think. There are a few screws of course and the clamping mechanism needs to be taken off.

How did you put it apart?
@Tobinindustrial4 жыл бұрын
It's been so long I don't recall but if there is no screws then it is snapped together and would need to be pried apart gently. A plastic flattop spudger or an old credit card might be a gentle way to start to separate it at the seams.

It’s more than likely the thermal fuse, start there and check the heat plates

@@Tobinindustrial 99% of the time it will be the fuse, occasionally it can be a resistor and very occasionally it can be the processor, I only change about a dozen processors a year

@@brandy2491 So sorry. I tossed it in the garbage a long time ago.

@@FixerofEverything where is the fuse? I stripped it apart and could never find a cylindrical fuse. My thoughts are the safety cut off switch stuck on. Neither heating plate will get hot. What are the odds that both plates went out

Did you ever get the iron to work ?
@Tobinindustrial8 жыл бұрын
+eTwistedMe The electrical heating element which is just under the ceramic pads failed. They are easily available for purchase but they cost just a bit too much to warrant replacing in an older flat iron.
@MosthostlaWeb6 жыл бұрын
Is there a part number you found or some search terms to use? Can't find any info on the R-03 ceramic pad that would need to be replaced.

next time get the one the salon uses the one with the holes and plug long corded outlet away from other outlets that's all
@Tobinindustrial7 жыл бұрын
I suspect the holes prevent it from overheating then? Thanks for the information. As for using a separate unused plug in, I am guessing that also allows helps it to stay cooler with good AC and amperage. Thanks for watching my video and God bless you.
