As I recall, Thirdspace was not actually a thing... This was a gate between universes and what was on the otherside thought it was alone in their universe. When the vorlon gate opened (their idea to escape the supposed heat death of this universe) it made them aware of other universes and they came and killed alot of vorlons and the first ones before the gate was shut down. The big mistake, other than making it, was the controlled vorlons losing it in hyperspace, ie making it lost, so there was a chance to open it again in the future. Its a pretty scary eldritch horror that gave the first ones a scare... if that doesn't cause dread and fear of it, I don't know what would. Thankfully John "Nuke'em" Sheridan was around to literally save the universe, because they had nothing else that could stand up to these things if they got through.

Hmm, I just heard that Vorlons thought it was the realm that consciousness migrated to, upon death, and they were confident they could probe into it, @TheMsLourdes , without negative consequences.

What Lyta really needs is a business manager to negotiate on her behalf with Sheridan for her services as a telepath. The B5 command staff have gotten used to being able to call upon her at any time, and they take her for granted. She needs an ally to negotiate her fees for services rendered up front so that she never needs to face eviction or other financial hardships.

I totally agree. And... Not only do they take her for granted, they (especially Sheridan) abuse the relationship. She is almost always the worse for wear after the requests.

It's been quite a while since I've delved into *Babylon 5* trivia and behind-the-scenes information, but as I recall, _Jeff Conaway_ (Zack) got that elevator scene in one take. Perhaps they filmed additional takes afterwards, but it is my understanding they didn't need nor use the alternate takes.

What always gets me is that last sentence: "One mistake, of so many, many others." One mistake the Vorlons made. Of many others. How many mistakes have the Shadows left behind? Or the other First Ones? Though the older the species, the more likely their mistakes have been cleaned up. Either by themselves or by others, but some might still linger. In another series I'm reading that is sometimes a problem. not exactly the mistakes of others, but the number of things from the past that come up in our Sol System even after 3,000 of interstellar space flight is incredible. It also shows, how big a star system can be, much more so a galaxy or the entire universe.

One of my favourite plot-drivers is the idea of posthumous secrets, be it within a family or on a cosmic scale. Iain (M) Banks does this kind of thing a lot, and it's also kind of an element in The Expanse series.

I'm from Northern Ireland and when I watched it during the release I thought about how the remnants of the British Empire had impacted my country. Then thought about all the other countries in the world that are suffering today even though the damage was from empires centuries ago, even millennia ago. The global impact from the Roman Empire is still being studied and understood. Imagine an empire that existed for billions of years, even with well considered best intentions causing only a BIG mistake every thousand years still means millions of such mistakes.

Lyta's final comment at 9:20, "One mistake. One mistake out of so many. So many." Chills. What else were the Vorlons messing with? Makes one wonder if the Shadows had made any similar mistakes.

Secondspace and Fourthspace? You know, like how only the 5th Babylon managed to not get destroyed/stolen, maybe they tried Second, Third, and Fourthspace, and those all had issues, and Fifthspace was the only one that had no issues, and was then renamed hyperspace.

As someone you is 50+ years old, who was around at the original airing of this TV show. I am reliving the experience/wonder that I experienced at that time. May you experience the true detail that can only be experienced buy more than a single watch, I became aware of this information on at least my 5th watch. This can not declared as a spoiler, as it needs for the viewer to have seen the series.

Thirdspace: A Vorlon mistake. Can we wonder about how many others they made? On top of that, what about Shadow mistakes? The after effects of the Shadow war could last very long. This looks like JMS' version of a horror story.

Yeah, exactly. When TNT funded movies as part of their Season 5 deal, JMS set to work on worthy ideas that would not violate his created universe for the show. He said this was the B5 homage to H.P. Lovecraft.

When I share B5 with others, I always include the movies, and in the correct chronological order (save for "In the Beginning," which I plop in between season 4 and 5 so there are no spoilers and the pacing of Season 4 isn't overly disrupted and such), mainly so that they can get the "whole experience" . . . And, while -- to an extent -- they do add some continuity errors and have some problems with pacing, I still find them good enough to re-watch when I do. And this one holds a special place, as Lovecraftian eldritch horror is actually hard to pull off, and JMS does an adequate job of it. Besides, who doesn't love John displaying that "Nuke 'em" title with balls-o-steel by using a damned space suit to place the fraggin' thing, and seeing the heartbreak of Zack choosing the exact wrong moment to pour out his heart . . .

While this movie has several interesting elements, it always strikes me as not as well done as many of the regular episodes. The movie is too long for the story-relevant material, and also feels underfunded (not enough of the regular actors like Katsulas, not enough scenes in different settings, etc.)

This is one of the B5 episodes/movies that I always skip whenever I do a re-watch. I just found it long, tedious, and boring - and, ultimately, it didn't really contribute anything at all to the overall story. This was an example of TNT trying to milk Babylon 5 for all the content they could get for the money they were spending.
