Basically serving as an introduction to the group, this song is the first on their self-titled album. They also typically open with this at concerts.

For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I present you with BABYMETAL Death.😉 OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤

Yay! Great reaction once again! This blew my mind when I first seen it. The start of the song is a nod to Babymetal’s big inspiration, Metallica, and their song “One”. The statue breaking apart is a nod to a Metallica concert, And Justice For All, where “Lady Liberty” also broke apart at the end. As for suggestions: When you get to these songs, be sure to use “For The fox God” channel, as those versions have amazing Kami Band intros and are newest: *Yava! (Legend MM)* *Kagerou (Legend MM)* *Metali (Legend MM)* ‘Till next time!! 🤘🦊

The music had been completed years before that show. So anyone who can create a plot that perfectly fits the theme of the music and concert is truly a genius. Thanks for your great reaction.

Girl: I just had a sweet 16 birthday party and we had clowns and puppies, what did you do SU? SU: At my 16th birthday party I was crucified in front of 9K screaming people chanting "death" "death", I died and became a goddess of metal, nothing important.

A timeless performance. "Babymetal Death" is their intro song and usually is the intro to their concert. But it is also a ritualistic song to crucify Su-Metal on her Birthday shows. She was crucified to abandoned her human form and ascend to godhood. She's now a Goddess. This show specifically was Su-Metal's 16th Birthday show. What a more metal way to celebrate your 16th Birthday right? The song itself really just introduce the members and the chants just spell out Babymetal. It was always the opening song to their concert, up until 2018 when Yuimetal went on a hiatus and eventually left the group. In 2021, when they celebrate their 10th Year anniversary, we got an alternate version of the song. It's called "Babymetal Death - Shin version". It's just instrumental and has no vocal on that one. Babymetal Death was never performed again until 2023, on Momometal's 1st show as an official member. The fans definitely got hyped up for the return of the song and in giving Momometal the warmest of welcome. If you interested then you can check out those two versions as well. "Babymetal Death - Shin Ver." Live at Budokan 2021. "Babymetal Death' Live at PIA Arena 2023. (It was posted on Babymetal's official channel) Definitely excited for the Black Babymetal reaction too. Enjoy! Keep on diving into the Fox-Hole!! 🦊🤘🦊🤘

Hahaha, the smile at the beginning, until the end of the lore part, transforming into some kind of awe, as the opening riff promises VERY heavy metal... great!🤣🤣🤣 I´m quite sure that everybody, being not that much into metal, shows such kind of feelings, watching BABYMETAL performing one of the most metal stage performances I´ve ever seen for the first time 😉 You noticed the statue crumbling 😮🤣, congrats! Not many reactors notice that! Ganimal83 told you about its whereabouts already. You put it into very wise words: if it is BABYMETAL, expect the unexpected! 😉 Your reaction was fun to watch!

Nice one, thanks! Nothing to see here. Just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and some of their fans (like 9.000 of them) all chanting DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!... haha... Now seriously, this is from the concert Legend 1997 - SU-METAL seitan sai (SU-METAL's 16th birthday party). It took place on December 21st, 2013 at the Makuhari Messe event hall in Chiba (Greater Tokyo Area). As you noticed, they are literally introducing themselves in a cute and metal way just mispronouncing it by "death". Yes they love puns. Also, the song's name is actually "BABYMETAL DEATH" (We are BABYMETAL). This was (and is again now) usually their opening song but this time they used it as the closing number. The meaning of the whole thing is the sacrifice of SU-METAL, giving up her mortal life as a human and Idol to reborn as a Metal Goddess. It was the final act of the show, which was a whole allegory about BABYMETAL's transition from a J-pop idol group subunit to a legit metal band. It also was partially themed around "Evangelion". I don't know how familiar you are with it... but you can add "Tamashii no rufuran" from this same show to your list. 😁 The beat on the intro and the final statue crumbling are obvious tributes to Metallica. And the neckbrace is one of their several tributes to X-Japan (as you probably know from the "Headbanger" music video). Until next time! 🤘🦊

Who doesn't like a bit of theatrical auto-da-fe and this is a great one. Su is crucified and reborn as Su-metal. The concert was Legend 1997 and celebrated Su's 16th birthday. The whole concert played with themes of birth, change and rebirth with the opening being a very tongue in cheek version of Headbanger and the end being this full on metal version of "Babymetal DEATH". The DNA spirals in the intro are also seen in Su's Headbanger stick-mic. The Kami Band joined BM for the final few songs signifying BM's transition to a full on metal act.

Great reaction. For monochrome there are 3 videos you should watch: * The official lyric video * Live at PIA Arena 2023 ("hymnodic" & "for the fox god" both have high quality subtitled videos) * The first take piano version. I would do the lyric video first, and then the other 2 in whichever order you like.

@@FaroSofi Great, I look forward to it!. A tiny bit of context - The First Take version was released 3 weeks *before* Momo became the new 3rd member. Whereas the PIA Arena Show was Momo's very first show as a full member (This will explain some of the volume differences in crowd cheers at certain points ;-)

Nice reaction as always. There were some audio issues on the video, as you asked, sort of a rustling noise. e.g at 1:40-1:50 I'll be honest; I always find this a difficult one to watch. Not because I have any religious issues so much but thousands of fans chanting death death death at 16 year old Su and 14 year old Yui & Moa and the crucifixion makes me uncomfortable. This is where #notacult comes in. I know it's all a show/performance to move the lore along but still. Anyway I'm probably just being a 🤓 I'll watch some Rammstein to lighten the mood 😜

Yes, but there's a double meaning between the words "death" and "desu" (pronounced "des"), which in this context means "I am" or "We are". That's why this song is usually performed as an opening number, as a way for the members to introduce themselves. "I am Su-metal!", "I am Yuimetal!", 'I am Moametal!", 'We are BABYMETAL!".

with you on that ngl 😆 Thank you, I will see if I can remove it 🤞

⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 Only about 1% of the population in Japan are Christian. For most Japanese, the main exposure to Christianity is through popular culture like movies, anime or manga comics. In BABYMETAL's case, also through the imagery used in Metal concerts. Fortunately most folks understand this is metaphor and spectacle. Did you get the play on words in the song title and lyrics? The word "desu" in this context, can mean "I am" or "We are", and is pronounced "des", which can sound like "death", especially if you stick your tongue out a bit when you say it. The first Su-metal crucifixion was a year before this, at 'LEGEND D' (December 20th, 2012), a concert that incorporated many themes from Neon Genesis Evangelion, including the cross motif.

Great reaction. You already have the paragraphs explaining the pun and meaning of 'BABYMETAL Death', the story of the Legend 1997 concert etc ... I'll try to add rather than repeat if I can. 'BABYMETAL Death' (not just 'Death') is the first track on the first album and most often used as the show opener because, as you have already been told, it is based on a pun and they are literally introducing themselves by name. They had not played this live since the end of 2017 when Yui stopped performing ... until the performance as the first encore of BABYMETAL Begins, Clear Night on 2nd April 2023 ... Momometal's very first concert as an official member - finally she could be included to introduce herself along with Su and Moa - a trio once again ... and 'BABYMETAL Death was back. Legend 1997 was a special occasion of course being Su-metal's 16th birthday, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was the finale and Su was crucified ... they only crucify Su and special occasions.😁 The last time they performed it with this amount of theatrics was at Legend S in December 2017 - celebrating Su's 20th birthday in her home town Hiroshima .... and that time they had a lot of extra flames.🔥🦊🔥
