The great thing about Babymetal is that their live performances are objectively good. No matter how you look at it, they have a technically talented band, Su's vocals are strong and on point, Moa & Yui are energetic dancers,and their songs are thoughtfully composed as a fusion of Jpop/metal. This is true no matter how you actually feel about combining Jpop/metal, Japanese idols dancing, or what metal "should" be. People are being hooked by the gimmick ("WTF") and are instinctively trying to find things to criticize. What's happening is that people are surprised by that fact that they cannot actually find anything substantial to criticize.

I was at the front, they were fantastic. They had some pits that put some of the heavier more well known bands to shame and as far as I know they had the only wall of death. Rock on baby metal!

BabyMetal, in my opinion, are seriously underrated. I absolutely love them, to be honest. I love brutal Metal (Metallica, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, etc.). So I was incredibly skeptical of them at first and didn't even want to listen to them. It took about 5-6 months of seeing them here and there on the Internet, when I one day decided to give them an honest chance. I saw the live-version of "Road of Resistance" and it blew my mind. My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe how amazing it sounded. I'm not for pop music, in general, but they make the pop and metal-mix sound perfect. I definitely wanna see them in concert.

Same here. At first I was confused at what I'm seeing and hearing, then later on, I learned to like them. I thought it was just an acquired taste. But lately these past few months after listening to their discography again and again, I saw and understood on how unique and special they are. Massive hit! Wasn't at sonisphere but I have a ticket for Monday! Very excited. And as others have said, for 14-16yr old girls to come to a foreign country, and play to 50,000+ people at a festival is amazing. Even if you're not a fan of them, that alone should be enough for them to gain some respect.

Sonisphere was a huge suprise for me. That is a tough audience and they pulled it off better then I had expected really. Some hardcore metalheads might be put off by BabyMetal. I think it's pretty damn cool frankly. Furthermore I wish I got started at the age these girls are. In a few short years they will have nearly a decade worth of experience before they turn 21. That is only going to play huge dividends later later on. What's more is the fact they are women in a mostly Metal industry dominated by middle aged men. It only seems dirty because we arn't used to seeing young girls in this light. Instead of playing with dolls and being girly. That in and of itself has my full respect. As to them not playing their own instruments is not entirely true. Su-Metal does play some but considering their age. Should we even be complaining geez. There are female J-Rock bands who do play. Like Existtrance, Taia and Danger Gang. Which are fucking amazing in and of themselves. However what freaking difference does it make. Furthemore the band is fucking brilliant so i could care less really. I however just think some people have a problem with the fact they are female. Well screw that shit as women can rock to ya know, enough said. :)

It's nice to hear some metalheads being positive and liking them, since there are so many closed-minded metal fans that stick only to that type of music and consider "shit" anything different from the music they like. When I heard that they were going overseas at first I was scared because this is not something you see everyday. I've said this before and it bares repeating: What made Pink Floyd so special was they fused the opposite ends of the musical spectrum, Blues rock and Jazz. Today the common listener can be exposed to everything from Heavy metal to Pop.Am I saying there on PF's level?No, but what I am saying is a fusion hasn't occurred like this since Echos. My point being the further away musical styles are from each other the harder it is to convince the listener that they belong in the same song. This band goes to 11! I'm gonna be blunt. I don't like Babymetal. Not because I'm an elitist prick. It's mostly due to the fact that A. The only real metal thing about them is the interments. B. I fucking hate the Japanese idol business. So combining a thing I love with a thing I detest leaves a bitter aftertaste. Lastly C. Most people only find them original because they have never seen what Japanese idols are like before. So I don't necessarily hate them, but I sure as hell don't like them.

I have mixed feelings about baby metal. Here is a problem - Heavy Metal always brought together outcasts and loners, provided a sense of belonging for people, way of blowing of steam and expressing themselves. The bands which make it in a world you will notice are bands who usually don't fall easily in any category, which do whatever the fuck they want to do. I always enjoy seeing Metallica speak behind the scenes as you can tell they're not hiding anything. They're not trying to be something they are not. Honesty sells in metal industry. That's what it's most precious about it. Bands such as While She Sleeps, have similar following. And it's a loyal following of fans who will do anything for their band and come together for greater good and take care of each other. Now the problem with Baby Metal, is that for now they are fun, new and exciting. But in the end they are fabricated band by record company and will not last to be anything bigger or even disappear in oncoming years. I wish them the best but without honest, good intentions just to rock and play music no matter what (money or not) no band has any chances of surviving.

I've seen Metallica in concert twice, and BABYMETAL also twice. One of them absolutely blew the doors off and lived up to your statement. The other was great, but not so much. I love the concept of bringing some of Japan's culture into their music videos. I also admire the idea of combination of "cute" and "metal". Kinda reminds me of the idea of combining opera and rock (which I love). Sadly, I just can't get into this band's particular music. It's cute and interesting to look at, but personally, not even catchy. Maybe in a few years when the shock factor has settled down a bit and newer bands will come out and with their own actual stuff. I'm curious from this point on how this kind of music scene will evolve.

Meh, I dont know. I like it the music is decent though the focus is is the girls. They're cute but it seems like they don't really fit the metal category, I've seen cutesy metal bands before. When you throw those chicks in there it cheapens the musicians or distracts from whatever talent or lack of talent had. My first thought when seeing them was "What the blazes is this!?". I've only seen a few vids of them I guess its cute kinda entertaining. It's just when I listen to certain genres I like the focus on the musicians or the (one) singer's skills. Don't get me wrong I like the K/J/T pop/rock genres but I hold different standards for dif genres. I think this means my mind probly is caught by their gimmick and the music isn't garbage.
