Experimentation and genre bending is very much at the heart of what Babymetal has done since their inception, and this song is another example of their flexibility in blending genres and their willingness to try different things. One of the charms of Babymetal is that you just never know what they will come out with next, so every new release is a surprise.

The problem is not the genre exploration, but the lazzy writing, this song was extremelly generic, the only good thing about it das Su's voice, because the music is god awfull, you can't even hear the instruments in it (only the drums).

@@Arthur_Rodri The nature of being experimental is that not everything is going to land. There's inevitably going to be highs and lows along the way. For what its worth, the live version at Makuhari was heavier with the guitars more forward in the mix.

@@Arthur_Rodri I think the writing is not bad at all, the songs are constantly evolving. And we get Metal mixed with EDM mixed with maybe a little R&B (or whatever one would call Moa's parts in the second verse), I don't think that can be called generic. I also feel like something is missing, but I don't think you are on the right track, except maybe for the mixing. I'm sure some of that will be remedied live.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 "Difference" and "Diversity" is another name of BABYMETAL. Especially new album, a "concept album", must have an underlying story to be told whether explicitly or implicitly and various songs therein must tell us 10 different chapters in the story. As an eyewitness at the venue, I guarantee that the live audio with Kami Band had more power and heaviness to stir your feelings. I assume Amuse is currently releasing MVs with live footage + studio sound, in other words "imperfect live video", on purpose, because they have to block their "real live videos" by copyright strike in order to sell them in a form of Blu-ray/DVD. After some two-year long hiatus, this is a good tool to remind people of the attractiveness of BABYMETAL and gain new fans, I believe. High and low undulation of Su's voice and sharp moves by Moa and Momoko disordered my emotions 😱. Although I was too mesmerized to digest everything at the live debut, I finally grasped its artistry as a whole by this MV. I am looking forward to seeing the live performance of this song again in two-day shows on both April 1/2, yes I have the tickets ヽ(^o^)丿

this song goes back to when they started. they come from a J-Pop background so their first few songs had more pop in it. but you can see that Babymetal can never be put in a box because they do so many different genres and all are good. remember their new album is a concept album where they can go different ways. just for your info this song follows Monochrome and if you put both together you can see how they fit. just like Divine Attack is after Metal Kingdom. i am sure when we hear the whole album we will see how it comes together. and also Babymetal started to get new fans into metal and i think this is a song that is like a gateway drug for someone that never listens to metal but they will listen to this. of course die hard metal heads will never love Babymetal because they will say Babymetal is not metal but to me if you like the music who cares if it is or not. i listen to a few different styles not just one. first two songs they did is Doki Doki Morning and iine. first one was done when the girls were 12 and 11 years old. iine is a trip because it blends pop, edm, rap, metal and i think one more style.

The drums and guitars are usually much more forward in the mix, loud, and heavy for Babymetal's live performances than they are in the studio tracks. I expect that was/will be the case with this song as well. I loved the song immediately, but I'm looking forward to the Blu-ray and live album from the concert.

from the start BM was Su (vocals/dance) Moa and Yui (scream/dance, think cheerleaders). After Yui left citing health issues her spot was eventually replaced by a dancer known as an Avenger (no mic). Rumor is on Fox Day (April 1 no that;s no a joke) an official third member will be announce, and speculation is it will be Momoko (the Avenger in this video)

Good reaction - and I'm with you. This is definitely a song that leans a long way towards the pop end of the BABYMETAL sliding scale, further than most I'd say. However, this was the studio audio and I have read the live version is ... different (the guitars and metal you were missing may be in that - not the solos though I think). We can only wait for the DVD to hear the live audio and see how much different of course. I feel this album, concept aside, is highlighting Su-metal's vocals more than anything and possibly more than has been the case in the previous albums - they each had maybe three or four songs that really did that, this one so far every song has done it. Of the four songs released so far 'Monochrome' is my own favourite. 'Metal Kingdom' and 'Divine Attack' work well together for the concert openers. I will be honest - I wasn't too optimistic hearing the opening beats on my first listen - I couldn't avoid disco music when I was a lot younger (I tried but it was everywhere and it was unavoidable and I didn't like it). However, this song does grow on you each time you listen to it ... but I want to hear the live version.

Nice reaction. I like Godsmack too. For me the song feels tempered by the piano parts. I hope it does get some radio play in the US. Heck their last album charted high on the billboard charts, and I still didn't hear them on the radio. Typical for metal. In the early days of Babymetal one of the things they wanted to do was create a good starting point for those who are just getting into metal. Especially young ladies like themselves when they started out. This song fits that mold. At the moment Babymetal is officially listed as Su-metal and Moametal. When they started out, they had Yuimetal with them. Yui was like a twin with Moa and did the same parts. They had four songs they did as duos. Without Su-metal. Getting their moment to shine. Yui stopped performing with them in 2017 and officially withdrew from Babymetal in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues. In Japan their private lives are kept private. So, anyone who does know what the health issue was isn't talking about it. With that said, At the end of this concert they announced a new metal will be joining them in April. Their next shows are April 1st and 2nd. We will just have to wait for Fox Day in Japan to find out who or what the new metal is. Fox Day in Japan is like April fool's Day. Complete with the pranks. Babymetal have made announcements on this day in the past. New Albums, tour dates and such. This time a new member maybe. Only The Fox god Knows as they say.

Please also this is a different universe from the earlier music from before they were sealed. After they had performed ten concerts one for each year that BABYMETAL has been around from 2010 -Legend I,D,z in 2012 to Metal Galaxy in 2020. So this is the other side of the METAL GALAXY or the realms they had visited on their journey of the METAL GALAXY. Might i also suggest watching a video on the history of BABYMETAL by Cryptic Misery.

these singles have all been lacking in the guitar solo department, and overall the mix tends to have the instruments quite far back, but there's still some pretty good guitar work in this song and the other new ones if you listen very closely. someone actually did a nice re-balance of the mix in this track and brings the guitar and drum a bit more forward, and it's definitely an improvement. nice reaction, see you guys in the next one!

👍 👍 There is a video floating around that I watched where someone who was at both concerts consecutive nights meshed the actual LIVE vocals/instrumentals from the concert with this MV footage and as always Suzuka’s actual vocals are soooo much better than studio. Plus the crowd interaction is always fantastic. I have read and heard accounts from people who attended the concerts and they said that on the first night there was an issue with Suzuka’s IEM and it threw her off but the second night there were no issues and she killed it. They said that Monochrome LIVE was simply awesome (during a break in the song where Suzuka interacts with the audience she actually hums some of the lyrics and they said it was amazing) Until next time.

Keep in mind that BABYMETAL are a J-Pop Idol group. Their music combines J-Pop, Heavy Metal, and EDM. SU-METAL was 15yo, and MOA-METAL and YUI-METAL were 13yo (or there a about) when they graduated SAKURA GAKUEN and debuted in BABY-METAL. After YUI departed years ago, her spot was filled by a dancer (who does not sing). They have been performing for ten years, so it’s to be expected that their song is maturing. I hear their new music is leaning into the EDM, and moving away from the, “Look a those tiny girls dancing to Heavy Metal! oh, those crazy Japanese!”-type thing. SU is a phenomenal vocalist. Check out the recent First Take video of MONOCHROME to see SU and MOA’s maturity on full display.

Babymetal goes much heavier live; that riff is more forward in concert. Babymetal as a rule goes heavier live. And the project has always been a vehicle for the lead singer.

You are not deep in Babymetal catalogue, so it's normal for you to be a bit confused about this song. THey have a really diverse sound changing from song to song! THey have songs in about any metal genre, fusing it with almost anything around.... So you can find them in rap metal, industrial, death, speed, djent, bollywood, dubstep, EDM, viking, etc... They also have a few ballads!

I think you gentlemen hit the nail on the head: an okay song for the sheeple. BABYMETAL goes in a different direction - unfortunately, it is backwards. To me, this is another disappointing song from BABYMETAL's new album. Where's the metal? Where's the kawaii? Where's the mosh'sh pits? Where's the crowd participation? WHERE'S THE FUN? BABYMETAL made metal fun - not any more. Now they are just another metal band, and I seriously wonder if calling them "metal" is accurate. Now don't get me wrong: I love BABYMETAL. I will be the first to say that Suzuka Nakamoto has a wonderful voice but, aside from that, I'm very disappointed with the direction that BABYMETAL has taken. Their first two albums and most of their third made metal music fun. But they aren't "BABYMETAL-ish" any more. They've devolved into a J-pop band. Aside from "Divine Attack", there's nothing metal about them so far. And being kawaii and metal was what made BABYMETAL BABYMETAL! It's seems to me that they're trying too hard to make "epic" music when they need to get back to what made them great: songs that made you bang your head with a big, sh*t-eating grin on your face.
