Nice one, thanks! In my opinion, this music video is a must watch. And my personal favorite. Overproduction you say? You have no idea! It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is a masterpiece. How this translated to the live performance? Being one of their most loved songs and their most played live: 277 times (and counting). Incredible crowd interaction. Usually played at the beginning of the shows, right after the opening number to welcome the audience. And a perfect place to see Moa taking part in some of her shenanigans on stage during the mask part (breakdown), and dragging Momoko with her lately. 🤣

Thanks for this reaction. Yes, it's a person screaming, the specific type is called a 'pig sequel', but it's heavily manipulated in the studio. Live that part is just a backing track.

Regarding a link to a live version, the "Red Fox Festival" live audio is a personal favorite. it is used in this version for example (kzbin.info/www/bejne/baHJhKqHmcqNeZY). This concert night was women only allowed, so you not only get the usual excellent Babymetal music, you also have an entirely female audience singing along; to a song that is fundamentally about women empowerment and strength. The linked video uses video from all five nights of the fox festival, but the audio is only from this one night. It's quite good.

Glad to see you're back with this suggestion, you can enjoy the song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 with the new formation. Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at Sabaton's Europe Tour and later at Asian and Australian Tour, they also got another Europe headline tour in November, along with the Babyklok Tour, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shenanigans between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 and 15 yo, so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. What you heard during that heavy breakdown are pig squeals. Btw just in case, the backing band you saw here are hired actors/dancers only for this song, it wasn't the Kami Band. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a pejorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend to you for your own time if you want. Good reaction ... well done with the pronunciation and yes you have a load of live performances of this to choose from - 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other (something like 280 times now?). This is a great video and fully deserves the reaction, but you are right - live BABYMETAL is best. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals (that was what you heard - it is a variation of screamo or whatever it is called I believe) in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled out the tanto (short blade) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. You didn't see or hear the Kami Band in this at all, it was the studio audio and the Kami Band only play live concerts, they don't do the studio recordings. I understand their producer Kobametal sent this song back to the composer YuppeMetal something like 24 times before he was happy with it - and fairly late on his laptop with all the files and recordings etc went wrong and he nearly lost the whole thing.

Great song by BM. Thanks for doing a reaction. They still play this almost every show. To hear a more mature sounding Su, watch a 2021 live version at Budokan, there is no crazy crowd interaction because of covid rules for the show, but it is a nice performance still. For pre-covid live versions, I like the 2017 Fox Festival just because it is some of Yuimetal's last shows.

This video is pretty important in Babymetal fan culture. It was filmed at Asagaya Shinemigu, which is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Amaterasu located in the Asagaya district in western Tokyo, and it has become a popular site of pilgrimage for Babymetal fans visiting Tokyo. I was able to visit the shrine earlier this year in January when I went to Tokyo to go to Babymetal Returns - The Other One. It's about a 30 min train ride from Shinjuku and a five minute walk to get to, so its quite accessible and well worth a visit if you are in Tokyo. Just be aware that the Noh theater stage where they filmed the video is only open for display on Sundays, so try to go on a Sunday if you are going. The row of torii arches you see in the breakdown section in the middle of the song was filmed at Hie Shrine, which is in Minato ward in Tokyo, and is also easily accessible by train and a short walk. Not as many people make a visit to Hie, but the 100 torii arches are pretty cool and walking through them is worth a visit. As for where you should go next - Headbangerrr!!!!! Live @ Legend 1997

Lots of good live versions our there. As a general rule, BABYMETAL live performances are preferred for reactions. But not for all songs. Megitsune is one of the few exceptions. This MV is recommended for reactions. Do we call it "foxhole" because of the masks? No, we don't. BABYMETAL uses the fox sign instead of the horns sign. They invented the fox god. Fox masks are a later addition and only a small piece of the overall picture.

They give up doing videoclips after Karate xD, I think that's why people wants to reactor to see this one in particular. Is like an insight of something they are not doing anymore. After Karate, "official" videoclips are just live footage. And then they had the "official visualizers" xD Anyway, this is like their falgship song, they one that represent them the most and the most played one in their concerts.
