This is a festival song. The title combines metal+ matsuri. Wasshoi, sore, etc are traditional chants at festivals. Momometal when she says metali is striking kabuki poses. And the instrument is the shamisen. This is definitely intended for their live performances with audience participation.

"Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Great reaction. You just know the live performances of this will be completely wild and the crowd will go nuts! 🤘🤪🤘(That has already happened). Su-metal's vocals get all of us eventually (if she didn't already do it the first moment we heard her sing). It can be different songs for different people, but there will always be something almost magical about something she will do in a song or she just draws us in with her straight mostly vibrato-less tone. This is Momometal's first official music video since she was revealed as the official new member in April and she even got her own solo part with the spoken kabuki theatre section. The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!". They are inviting us all to dance - I may have this a bit wrong, but there is something in the lyrics (I think in Momometal's kabuki section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.

Nice reaction! Su’s voice never seizes to amaze me. She mentioned during interviews for recent album that she wants to “have more fun” with the music. We can see her doing just that here, more of a rock singer sound (vs pop), and a bit more flare. Also, 1st ever new song with Momoko, and Babymetal back to a full fledged trio! On lyrics: It’s a summer metal festival, so break the restrictive traditions (kicking away tea sets, Momo doing traditionally male only Kabuki theater, etc) and come join the fun! You’re not leaving until we’re all singing and dancing like fools! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! 🤘🦊🤘🦊

Excellent reaction/analysis, thanks! I absolutely love Su-metal's clean yet aggressive vocals here. So, welcome to the club! 😁 "Metali" is a "matsuri" (traditional Japanese festival) influenced song. It's full of chants and calls and responses because it's all about crowd interaction and exhorting the audience to sing and dance at the festival as you read on the translation. The music video is full of cultural elements related to "matsuri" and both the song and the video are highly related to other of their songs: "Megitsune". Even the director of the MV is the same person. Musically it's very groovy and funky and that was a really cool collaboration with Tom Morello. Also very happy for Momoko on her first song and music video as an official member and her special feature on that kabuki (traditional Japanese theater play) style speech she did in the middle. By the way, to everyone attending to the BABYKLOK tour, it's proper to shout "Sakura-ya!" while she's doing the pose in the end. Until next time! 🤘🦊

_Wasshoi wasshoi!_ Glad to see you're back with this brand new song outside of the new album they already released in March. We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this recently at Summer Sonic and hopefully they will do the same at Blue Ridge Rock, Aftershock or Louder Than Life and get the crowd going nuts with this. It's their first song released with this new BM reborn and formation. We heard it before the release because they premiere this at Apocrypha - Another One show, and someone leaked this on a fancam, it was fun and really unexpected but everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it. The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when one of them (MomoMetal) is doing the Kabuki moves style. Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festival when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya you can hear in Megitsune and Karate. Also the traditional Japanese instrument called shamizen you listen in the beginning, is also playing in Megitsune, another banger and classic BM song you need to watch if you didn't. I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts, he's a guitar legend from Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and many more projects, you should check it out. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

Nice reactin!! I want you to enjoy BM more.🏮 SU's singing style this time incorporates traditional Japanese 民謡(minyou) and 演歌(enka). It is often mentioned that SUs have good pitch, but whereas most people in the world start their singing at a slightly lower pitch, SUs seem to start at a slightly higher pitch. It is reported that quite a few people can do this. Also, many singers use vibrato, whereas SU sings straight. This also seems to take a lot of skill. Her voice quality is said to have the same overtones as Bob Duran, John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen. And her voice penetrates the soundproof walls that block the sound of the METAL band's instruments. The lyrics "Odorin chai" and "Utain chai" are in the dialect of SU-METAL's birthplace, Hiroshima. In standard language, the words are "Odori nasai" and "Utai nasai", meaning "you should dance" and "you should sing". It was the same with megitsune, when a song has a lot of Japanese culture in it, it is difficult to explain. Read only if you are interested, as the content may be a little removed from the song itself.(I'm sure you have an idea of what you're getting at, but I'll write it down in a nutshell.) METALI is a word that adds METAL and 祭り(Matsuri=festival). And this song is a representation of a Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festival). For us Japanese, these sound and lyrics make our Matsuri blood boil. Matsuri is the heart of the Japanese people. It is said that there are a total of 300,000 festivals in Japan, both large and small. Matsuri means a ritual for worshiping Gods or Buddha, or an event held in gratitude towards nature. 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) is a carriage for Gods. In the festival, Japanese people get around the Mikoshi and carry it on their shoulders in order to worship Gods. While carrying the Mikoshi, the carriers will yell "Wasshoi, Wasshoi" or "Soiya, Soiya" or "Sore, Sore".(However, the calls vary considerably from region to region.) 神輿(Mikoshi=portable shrine) and お囃子(Ohayashi=festival music) of Matsuri have a history of more than 1,000 years and are etched in the DNA of the Japanese people. The funny-looking masks with their mouths agape are ひょっとこ(hyottoko). It has existed for roughly 500-600 years. The masks were originally used in 神楽(kagura). Kagura is a dance dedicated to the gods. In the film Your Name, Mitsuki danced dressed as a 巫女(Miko=shrine maiden), which is also a type of Kagura. The counterpart to the Hyottoko is a female mask called おかめ(Okame) or おたふく(Otafuku). Okame and Hyottoko masks are sold at Japanese 夏祭り(Natsu Matsuri=summer festivals). The Japanese consider foxes and cats to have strong spiritual powers and fear them. At the same time, foxes are enshrined in shrines as messengers of the gods. The instrument used in the intro is the 三味線(Shamisen), a three-line string instrument. The shamisen has been used in Japan since the 15th or 16th century. It appears to have originally come from China. The fan-shaped object held in the hand is called 扇子(Sensu). It is a tool to cool yourself by sending wind to you and can be folded into a stick shape. Text on the Sensu is in 赤子金属, 赤子(akago) is baby, 金属(kinzoku) is metal. ぴーひゃら(Pehyara) in the lyrics is the sound of a 篠笛(Shino bue=transverse flute) used at Matsuri. どっこいしょ(Dokkoisho) is the voice used when lifting heavy objects. The choreography when saying "Dokkoisho" is the pose of carrying a heavy object on the shoulder. The choreography when saying わっしょい(Wasshoi) is a pose for carrying a Mikoshi(portable shrine). MOMOMETAL speaks in the middle, that is 歌舞伎(kabuki) speaking. MOMOMETAL's odd pose is the Kabuki climactic pose. The lines said by MOMOMETAL come from the 阿波おどり(Awa Odori), a traditional Japanese dance. Originally by. 踊る阿呆に(Odoru Ahoo ni)、見る阿呆(Miru Ahoo)、同じ阿呆なら(Onaji Ahonara)踊らにゃ損損(Odoranya son son)! (The dancers are fools, the watchers are fools. Both are fools alike so, why not dance?) ※踊る(odoru=dance),阿呆(ahoo=fool),見る(miru=view) It is called 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe), a call to be inserted between songs. 合いの手(Ainote) or 掛け声(kakegoe) can be wasshoi, dokkoisho, sore, soresore, ha, ho, yo, yoisho, etc. If you are interested in Mikoshi, musical performances, etc., please search youtube for these characters and watch the videos. When the Japanese see this, our blood starts to boil. Mikoshi> "焼津荒祭 夜" ohayashi(festival music)> "お囃子乱舞!" Festival dance> "REDA舞神楽 【YOSAKOIソーラン大賞披露演舞】" Hyottoko> "第40回日向ひょっとこ夏祭りの様子" (Sorry if the translation is strange. Please get a feel for it.) From Japan🦊

Su is definitely busting out some different vocal techniques in this one. She's using the same kind of vocal she used for Shanti and Metalizm for a lot of it and almost shouting at times and only really sings in her more typical style for a couple of notes here and there, but it really suits the mood and energy of the song. In many ways, this song feels like a deliberate callback to Megitsune, with its use of shamisen, and the traditional location as background for the performance, and the blending of traditional motifs and ideas with the modern. It seems like they are almost going back to the start to being again for the new era as a group now that they are a trio again.

Nice reaction. Su-metal has been a top vocalist in the metal world for a number of years now. One of the things she is known for is going right to the note she is singing. Here she's added in the dynamics you spoke of. Usually, a bit hard to pull off when you're singing at the speeds that some of their other songs are at. Also, it's been mentioned that Su will typically hold the note for as long as it was written for. Next to never cutting a note short in a live performance. Impressive when you're dancing while singing. We can't leave out that this is the first recorded song released with their new official member Momoko. Now known as Momometal. Congratulations Momoko. She did the speaking part and the Metali, Metali in the middle. Get a new member time to show her off. Nor can we forget are angel of love Moametal. Bring back the kawaii that many missed in the Other One album songs. For me Moa is always kawaii no matter what she is singing. Just her default state of being. Tom did a great job blending in with the Kawaii metal sound of Babymetal. He said he wanted to do a collaboration with them for a long time. It worked out well for us fans. Great tune.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛 The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri 祭 (festival)" → Metali. And if you want to know the deep meaning of the lyrics please check Professor Hartley's channel (Andrew Hartley). I witnessed this song live twice this month : World premiere (live debut) in a special show and Performance at huge festival "Summer Sonic Tokyo". At the actual venues, this song followed after an intro with Western Kamis' cool instrumental solos. Oh My Buddha! 😍 I got hyped like an idiot in the simplicity of this song and Momoko's extravagant elocution and moves in Kabuki style (and her growl in live show) gave an amazing accent in the exciting repetitiveness. The repetitive わっしょい "Wasshoi" is a call or yell used in Japanese Matsuri (festival). It is a kind of phrase to intensify people's excitement and especially to encourage the power of guys who are carrying a heavy Mikoshi that is similar to a float in Western style festivals. [FYI : In the festival, BABYMETAL was a closing act after 8 artists. Evanescence performed right before them. I was moved to tears by Amy Lee's "Bring Me To Life".]

It is a Shamisen. It is a quite japanese theme, the summerfest. Normally japanese arebextremly restrained but at summerfest, the men meet, only in loin cloth and carry shrines through the village. And Su got the idea to add a Summerfest to her Metal Community, but she added by default female parts of the community , just as it is happening in Japan right now. They just had to work on the how dobwe get non Japanese involved in a part of the japanese culture, but the three gils are a force of nature abd so they added a special presentation of their newest member and a Collaboration with Tom Morello into the mix.

Another nice reaction Rachel, Su’s vocal being sultry is a great description and I absolutely agree with you. I couldn’t get my head around what was o different with this song but it did have a sultriness that I’ve never heard SuMetal do before. Even some of the poses and looks she gives the camera are different. I have to admit that upon first hearing this song, I was not immediately sold on it and put it down to being a little ‘meh’ but after seeing the music video and the utter chaos and sensory overload, but since then, it’s been on high rotation. Love the fun, love the energy and reckon this will send the fans wild when played live. I’ve never liked/loved so many songs from one artist, even the ones I followed for years but BM have such a high proportion of songs that go onto my favourites list, it’s amazing. More please!
