Dancing in the dark 2 meters above a rotating stage, a 16 year old Suzuka sings of an Unending Nightmare of being chased by a Faceless Terror and begging a Boon that it show Her Its Face just once before She dies. That's Metal. That's Babymetal!! Put your Kitsune UP!!

This track shows exactly how truly metal BabyMetal are. No other 16 yo performer could do what Queen Su does here. Standing on a tiny platform, she sings with such power that her voice cuts through the brutal sounds from the Kami band, and makes it look effortless.

Here's an English translation of the lyrics: The waning moon has lit up the insanity rampant in the shade The laughter resounds around It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam I can't escape from it It flickers slowly appearing and disappearing in my mind A nightmare rondo is being repeated The awakening light is gone far away out of my sight I can do nothing but run through the darkness In the woods, in the fountain I hide myself holding my breath but it's still coming closer to me A stagnant voice. An endless night Ah... If I can no longer get out of here won't you show me your figure? It flickers slowly appearing and disappearing in my mind A nightmare rondo is being repeated The awakening light is gone far away out of my sight I can do nothing but fall into the darkness

Funny you should mention safety😂. One of the girls, Yui, fell off the stage on the first night (Red Night) of this concert event. She returned on the next song, no injury. On the second night of the concert (Black Night), they installed railing around the stage.

I have that black night/red night concert on DVD, she returned for Megitsune as that last song after falling off stage in Headbanger. Yui was badly injured and struggled to dance and was clearly in a lot of pain during Megitsune with a tear stained face.. It was so sad and I cannot watch that night on the DVD.

@@tomooo2637 she came back for IDZ not Megitsune, and she wasn't the one crying in IDZ, it was Moa, because during the run around the stage, Moa fell hard, but she got up really quick. You can see her wipe her tears once she's in formation. This part is also edited from the DVD release and not shown. My best friend was at that concert and gave me every detail. What is remarkable about this song is that it could have easily fitted on The Other One with minimal updates to the sound. It was completely kawaii free even then. This song directed me towards the writer of it Yuyoyuppe, who's music in turn directed me towards the metal Vocaloid scene and other artists like Utsu-P and others, who's music I am still listening to even today. Babymetal's music has opened up multiple musical avenues for me, they even made me a big Judas Priest fan, which i should have already been. I view Babymetal as a musical gift that keeps on giving.

@@JohnnyReacts1 It's a synthetic voice from Yamaha that started in 2004. I'm not up on the actual technology or the full scene or culture yet, i'm still a noob. It sounds like it should be dreadful, but it really is amazing what the Vocaloid community has done with it; they make it 'feel' real even though it isn't. They released a very basic, cute voice called Hatsune Miku in 2007, but the vocaloid community tuned it to scream, growl to metal, and sing like an angel. There are later voices that I truly believed were real when I first heard them, but Miku is the legend i think. Hatsune Miku gets over 2 million listens on Spotify per month. The day I realised how amazing it was, was when I thought to myself how gorgeous Miku's voice sounded on a certain track. It passed a kind of musical turin test without me realising it. I see Vocaloid as a kind of vocal instrument now. Yuyoyuppe's music is the closest thing you are going to get to Babymetal's music outside of the metalverse because it shares the same DNA as Babymetal's music. You have already heared one of Yuyoyuppe's song's 'Monochrome'. He has written 5 of them and arranged another 9 of them. He did an awesome remix of Headbanger as well.

The vocaloid Miku chan was trained from recordings of an actual singer. And has performed live using hologram technology for an on-stage presence. Miku chan did a cover of the Finnish folk song Ievan Polkka (Eva's Polka), which I (and others) think may have been one of the influences for the Babymetal song Oh Majinai.

Great reaction.🦊 You have probably been told by now, but this is one of 4 Su-metal solos, two on each of the first two albums. The others are 'Akatsuki', 'Amore' and 'No Rain, No Rainbow'. Yui and Moa would get a break while Su performed those - Su would get a break when Yui and Moa performed one of their duets - they were called Black BABYMETAL for those and they also had two on each of the first two albums (4 No Uta' or Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen', 'GJ' and 'Sis Anger'). The Kami Band intro at the start is called 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods'. In order of solos - Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). There can't be many 16 year olds who could follow that intro and then just take over the whole stage and arena the way Su did dancing in the dark on her tiny raised platform (and you've been told all about Yui's and Moa's falls on the first night). I understand rondo is a musical term denoting a repeated theme - something like that anyway. I believe they borrowed the term for the title of this song as Su is caught in a recurring nightmare, being chased through the darkness by something she can't see. Eventually she hides, but it is still coming closer. Knowing there is no escape she asks that if she is to die won't it at least reveal itself to her. This is definitely one of or the darkest of their songs lyrically and had a working title of 'Kill The Alice' when it was being composed. This was early March 2014. They played two nights at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo with or just days after the release of their first album. This is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now the most prestigious venue for concerts - think the equivalent of Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden - it is the place all Japanese artists aspire to play but most never will. BABYMETAL sold out both Red Night and Black Night, becoming the youngest average age female band ever to headline there. Su was just a couple of months past her 16th birthday, Yui and Moa both still only 14. They were back at the Budokan as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and played 10 shows over the first 3 or 4 months of 2021.

Great reaction, thanks! The instrumental intro, "Mischiefs of the Metal Gods", is perfect to show every Kami Band member's skills. And it serves to summon Su-metal, who finally emerges from the depths ... well, at least from the bottom of the stage. 😁 This is the only intro song which has a name but they have several other songs with an intro when they perform them live such as "Catch me if you can", "YAVA!". "Awadama Fever", "Kagerou" and more recently "METALI!". "Rondo of Nightmare" is probably their darkest song lyrically. It's about Su being trapped into an endless nightmare, without any chance to escape, where she's chased by a dark entity as she tries to run away and hide. Finally, she asks the entity to reveal its real nature before giving up. This was a compilation video of both nights (Red and Black) at Budokan 2014. These were the first and second time they performed it live. And yes, Su-metal, being 16 at the time, was standing by herself on a relatively small and elevated platform, without any safety and probably not being able so see a thing due to the spotlight. This is so freaking metal! This is one of what we call Su-metal solos. She has four of them. The others are: "Akatsuki", "No rain no rainbow" and "Amore". The "rondo" in the name refers to the musical refrain form. The typical feature of any rondo is the return to the main theme after each digression giving the song a dark feeling of moving in circles without any possible way out. One of the best known rondos is Beethoven's "Für Elise". Until next time! 🤘‍🦊

re: how far metal has come... I so agree, I was in a punk band in the 80s and early 90s, and listened to a lot of metal as well, Judas Priest, Motorhead, the only thing from that era really coming close would be Iron Maiden. But watching these guys .. wow. So this was the Eastern Kami band, and I really have a fondness for them, Western are great, but Boh on bass... man.

Nice reaction. Most of the time Babymetal songs lyrics are positive uplifting and on the fun side of things. This song is the exact opposite. And Su delivers it like she has been singing this kind of dark song all a long. The kamiband intros have become something every Babymetal fan looks forward to. Especially since they're really good and they don't appear on the albums. Which means you only get that in the concerts. Another reason why Babymetal live is an experience not just a show. Su once said all things are possible through Babymetal. Seeing how diverse their songs are and the high quality of their songs shows to me Su was right. Babymetal the foxhole is deep and full of surprises

It's hard to see, but there are triangular cut out sections of the stage and these areas are where they both went down. On the 1st night, Yui fell during Headbanger. On the Blu Ray you can actually hear her scream as she fell. She couldn't return for the rest of Headbanger, but she did return for the last song. On night #2, Moa also fell during Headbanger also, but was able to finish the song.

Just to clear it up, we do know from a journalist who followed Babymetal for a few days in 2014 or 2015 that they actually did do homework backstage at a festival, it was probably more common than just ones. They were doing PR/interviews, practicing a dance behind closed doors of an unreleased song, homework and watching other bands perform to learn more about this genre that is still fairly new to them.

And how she performs her lives. 🙂 There have already been a lot of comments, so I'll try and add something which probably wasn't mentioned yet: The song temporary name during the wring process was: Kill The Alice. Welcome back to the Foxhole.🦊🤘🔥 Thanks for coming back with this great suggestion. As you can see this is not the usual happy BM song. It's one of the many songs composed by YuppeMetal (aka Yuyoyuppe), he's also behind Karate, Kagerou, the arrangements of Megitsune, Headbanger!! Night Of The 15 Mix (only the mix) and more new songs from latest album that you love like Monochrome and Believing. _"Akumu No Rondo"_ (or Rondo Of Nightmare) combines not only heaviness with dark waltz and dope time signatures changes but also delicate and fragile elegance that makes you want to grab your inception kit and go to rescue this 16 yo queen from this nightmare. Temporarily title song was "Kill The Alice" so it is like Alice but instead of Wonderland she's trapped in a nightmare trying to escape and avoid some evil entity. Rondo is a musical form in which you can hear a repetitive pattern, an example of this could be the song "Blue Rondo a la Turk". The Kami Band is doing their second magnificent intro of the night with their own set called "Mischiefs Of Metal Gods". They become regular after this special live at Budokan 2014 and leaving baby-bones, from early shows, behind, shout-out to them thou. They're Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums, this time Leda Cygnus is the first guitar. This was the day (night) after the first live premiere of this song and she's dancing and performing like she already did a dozen times before, like a pro. Also she's showing some fierceness here dancing on that high dangerous mini stage with no wire and that's how she keeps winning everyone's heart. But not everything was perfect here despite their impeccable performance and sound, and the day before the girls face that dangerous challenge on the stage, taking their own revenge after coming back in 2021 to celebrate their 10 years and leaving those ghosts behind, fortunately. Like i said, YuppeMetal is the one behind this song and he took inspiration from "Protest The Hero - Bloodmeat" song, of course i recommend you to hear that blaster song. Thanks for sharing this wonderful SuMetal solo and my favorite along with "Akatsuki" (live at Budokan 2014 is another great choice) The other solos are great too and those are: - No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S 2017, heavily blocked thou. - Amore live at Wembley Arena 2016. And of course the rest of the girls under "Black Babymetal" are enjoyable too, they're taking a break here while SuMetal is performing to come back later, so don't miss out on their other 4 songs too such: - "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas got that clip safe to react. - "Song 4" or "4 No Uta" live at Budokan 2014. - "GJ!" live at Wembley Arena 2016 - "Sis Anger" live at Tokyo Dome 2016". Next suggestion to come back with the happy vibes and meet what they do on a traditional stage without the top notch production and lights: - Karate live at Download Festival 2016. Hope you can feel better and see you next time..🦊🤘🔥

The Western Kami band also gets to show off their stuff a bit with intros to Kagerou, and most recently at Legend MM, Metali. I know you want to go into the songs fresh, but it could be cool to check out one of the guides to get some background info on the team. A new one was just made in April, and it's pretty good.

Great reaction! I was fearing for Su's safety as well when I first saw this video, but I believe she had some extra stage and acting lessons at the academy she was at before she joined Sakura Gakuin and Babymetal, as her dream has always been to star in a musical. And a firm and rooted stance is one of the basics you will have to master for that, I think. I'm pretty sure Suzuka is aware of where her center of mass is at any given point while dancing, but then all it takes is a little puddle of water on that elevated stage, and all that control is moot. In the official live video for her solo 'Akatsuki' from that same concert she is dancing and moving on the rotating part of that stage, never wavering in her stance although the whole venue is turning around her. And if this was scary to you, there is a live performance of 'The One' during which Yui and Moa are being elevated on separate platforms that are even higher up and much, much narrower than this one here, and on those, all they have for security is a small handrail in front if I remember correctly. 😲 Anyways, I understand you were asking for videos of Su-metal reaching those angelic high notes, right? Just two suggestions for more (more impressive, I think, than the one in Rondo): 'Kimi to Anime ga Mitai' from the same set of concerts, Budokan Red Night, and then 'Shine' from the Trilogy of Lights. Both songs feature bridges that might melt brains and result in sobbing, so be warned.

Sadly health and safety did come into play as Yui actually fell off the stage on night one here. - night two you see barriers everywhere. Anyway the song is one of four Su solo songs and she absolutely crushes it. She is a remarkable performer and she simply got even better. It’s quite amazing. Btw this is nothing - all three perform The One while flying out all over the crowd in a small pyramid at one gig. They have no fear. Great reaction keep them coming.

For high notes, see BM's other (IMO) great master piece, the rarely performed From Dusk Til Dawn (Budokan 2021). Her other-Worldly vocals had some folks conjecting that Su had some kind of help (Is it Memorex or Su?), or maybe the vocals were so taxing had something to do with the fact it has only been performed a handful of times. I'm in the camp that what we hear, w/ occassional electronic altering, is from the lips of our Queen.

Great reaction again my friend, Interest ing you picked up on the health and safty, it's difficult to see on this song but on he runways and steps down to the runways have railings upp, the reason for that is on the previous night, Budakan Red night, Yui fell off one of the runways and Su and Moa had to finish headbanger without her, she was back for the next song and the on IDZ Moa rolled her ankle and you can see how hard she is trying to hold back the tears. 2 14 year olds playing the Budakan for the first time (a dream come true for them at a very young age) and just wanting to put on the best show the could, this night they smashed it from start to finish. ⚡ / 🔥 😱 🔥 This performance is my standard answer to anyone who says that BABYMETAL aren't really metal. It's already epic, and THEN Su rises up from beneath the stage. This was a compilation from the two shows at Budokan in March of 2014. The 'Mischief of the Metal Gods' instrumental often precedes 'Rondo of Nightmare', but not always. We saw Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars and Hideki Aoyama on drums. And of course BOH on bass. Not that many people play a six stringed bass to begin with, let alone tap one like that. Su sang three solo songs the second night. She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set. I already liked BABYMETAL, but those solo songs made me a die hard fan. Dancing on a small platform raised in the air demonstrates courage. Following up an introduction where each Kami Band member shows off their skills with a solo, shows total fearlessness. : )

Your health and safety instincts are not wrong. Babymetal have a bit of history when it comes to onstage accidents including one notorious incident at this very show when one of the girls fell off the stage and another came close to doing so as well. They actually performed two consecutive nights at the same venue and if you see any of the footage from the second night you'll see that, following the accidents on night one, they put up safety barriers for the second performance.

By far the best rendition of this imo - great reaction. BMC is quite astonishing :D I do miss the old Kami band without masks - but I can think of several reasons why they masked them up - but I loved their interaction which with the masks just isn't really there. You're right about health and safety here - there's quite a lot they just wouldn't be allowed to do (and the way it's going we won't have concerts here - "safety" of one sort or another seems utterly dominant here atm 🙄) - and I'm pretty sure at one time all 3 of them are dancing on that platfrom (although it isn't set as high). One of their darker songs and I love it :). For me this is about girls recurring chase/pursuit nightmares (pretty common from what I know)

This was a classic performance and one i wish they would bring back. However, i understand the reluctance maybe in doing so. Given it was one of the last few performances with Mikio Fujioka. He was the second soloist in the intro. Who unfortunately died from a tragic balcony accident back in 2019 i think. This was a pretty sad time for the band. As we lost Yui not long after due to heath concerns. It was never stated as to the real reasons for her departure. _____________________________________________ However, it is believed now through some sources. That Yui had suffered from an ongoing compressed disk injury from a fall my guess. However, not from the Red night performance. As she has fallen more then once. Given she has never returned as she promised in an eariler statement. So i believe her injuries may have eventually contributed to her early retirement. Don't quote me on this but it seems a possibility. Babymetal thus had promoted their third album with only two members. Moving foward it's amazing how they suffered two major loses. ______________________________________________ Su-Metal nearly leaving the band herself, only to come back stronger & better then ever. I am grateful for that as i would have never seen them live had that happened. However, it important to recognize Yui's contributions as well here. Anyway, I also recommend Tales of Destinies which was performed at the Tokyo Dome i think. It was a Tribute to Dream Theatre"s Dance of Eternity. Another brilliant performance when Su-Metal was only 16. 🤘🦊🔥

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。This is the song that I am longing for the revival with Su-Metal's matured rich voice. (Of course I love this version) "Rondo" is a musical form with a recurring leading theme. I can't tell how many times I have viewed this video. It is literally a rondo of happy dream for me. Kamis' (=Gods') super solos were excellent enough as a main event in the show, but once the 16-year-old Queen (as of 2014) emerged from the underground, she colored everything differently with her penetrating voice then turned Kami Band's plays into a ritual to summon her.

16-year-old queen Su dances fearlessly 2 meters above the stage on a small platform and sings her heart out, facing an endless nightmare. What a performance!!! The song is about Su being chased by a faceless monster, repeatedly begging for her life and asking it, in the end, to reveal its face before she dies. The Kamin band intro is fantastic on its own, but a few songs have a similar Kami band intro, allowing them to shine. This is one of the four solo songs Su performs on her own without Yui/Momo and Moa. This allows Yui and Moa to take a break (or complete their homework, who knows? lol). In the same way, Yui and Moa perform four songs (and maybe Momo and Moa in the future!).
