One of Babymetal's most beautiful, heartfelt songs. The performance at Legend M is (IMO) the single most sublime performance of their entire career. We'll never really know what the trilogy really means. No-one in Team Babymetal will ever tell us. The meaning is interpreted by fans from the lyrics, and the presentation of the live performances. I tend to think that it does have an underlying meaning relating to loss, grief, and moving on. One fan theory that I like is that Starlight is a tribute to Mikio, Shine is a farewell and best wishes for Yui, and Arkadia is a statement of Su and Moa's determination to carry on and continue Babymetal. This video was filmed in 2019 during the Avengers era. It's actually Riho Sayashi in this video as the Avenger, not Momoko.

Great reaction! Su really knows how to emote with her voice and Moa has always been great with facial expressions. When they were still in SG, their choreographer, Mikiko would always tell the other girls to watch Moa to see what their faces should look like. The Avenger in this video is Riho Sayashi. Riho is a long-time friend of Su’s as they attended Actors School Hiroshima together when they were little. Riho later became the Ace of the idol group Morning Musume before going on hiatus to study dance in New York and made her public return as a Babymetal Avenger. Riho is now a solo artist.

Su and Riho were certainly friendly rivals during their time at Actors School Hiroshima, but I've never seen anything to suggest that they were long time friends. I remember hearing that Su got Riho's contact information from her sister Himeka when Riho joined Morning Musume, in order to write her a note of congratulations. I would guess that MIKIKO suggested the dancers they should hire as avengers.

Great reaction. The Trilogy of Lights are 3 incredible songs, 'Shine' is my own favourite of the three - especially the Legend M performance which was just Su, Moa and an acoustic guitar on stage (and that does strengthen the feeling of it being a tribute to Mikio Fujioka (RIP)).🎸 This video was from Legend Metal Galaxy I believe. That was early 2020 and the third girl was not Momoko, it was the Avenger Riho Sayashi. I hope you will find the time just to watch and enjoy the Legend M performance of 'Shine' for yourself (that was Moametal's 20th birthday celebration in July 2019) - I think that may be Su-metal's finest vocal performance to date and Moametal's choreo along with the acoustic guitar just brings out all the emotions for this song.

Nice reaction. Moa recently commented that she has been Moametal for more than half her life now. I got a few gray hairs hearing that. Shine is one of my favorite performances by them. Especially the Legend M version of just Su and Moa. It is very touching. Moa said it felt like they were holding hands the whole performance. Which they didn't actually do at any point. But it's very cool to feel that kind of connection during a performance. The choreography was a sign of things to come as is a very mature style of dance. If you want to hear their Spanish influenced song checkout Night Night Burn. You'll get to see more of Moa's facial expressions. Kawaii and all. The Foxhole is deep and full of surprises.

This is one of my favourite BABYMETAL songs, not only from the Metal Galaxy album. The vocals are fantastic (but when are they not), the song is emotional, the dancing is beautiful, the stage design is awesome, and to round it all off, it all fits together perfectly.

The part after the guitar solo is definitely some of the best vocals from Su, I don't think she goes this hard on any other song. A detail I really like is that from the point where she sings "kokoro ga sakenda" the vocals actually go off beat a little and even though subtle it really gives that part so much more weight.

Great reaction, thanks! "Shine" is an incredibly gorgeous song and I still consider it one of Su-metal's finest works as a vocalist, specially on that section just before the break. I believe that was the Legend Metal Galaxy (Day 2) version, so, that wasn't Momoko there, she was Riho Sayashi and yes, she did an excellent job! Now, fasten your seatbelt for "Arkadia". 😁 🤘🦊

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 As Grington300 commented below, there is another version of this song, "Legend M" version, that was the live debut by just Su and Moa. But the live debut in 3-girl formation was done at The Forum, CA on Oct.11, 2019 by Su, Moa and Riho (not Momo yet), the same trio in this Legend Metal Galaxy version. The musicians in the girls' back are West (American) Kamis : Chris Kelly (g), C.J. Masciantonio (g), Clint Tustin (b) and Anthony Barone (d). They came and played in Japan on Day-2 of the two-day shows at Makuhari. And they are currently supporting Su, Moa and Momo in every show since April, 2023. So they are "our" Kami Band including Ryan Neff (another bassist). We can rest assured as long as American Knights protect our queen and princesses when Japanese Samurais do not. They are both great.

Nice, Shine is definitely an amazing song. Check out the Legend M show in 2019, that's the one that has a guitar centerpiece for Moa (which, combined with the lyrics makes many of us fans believe it's a tribute to Mikio). Arkadia is next, and it's a trip! 🤘🦊

I won't go much into stating what everybody else has already stated. Would be redundant. I will say that yes that actually was an acoustic guitar playing in the song as you mentioned but was a bit nervous to make a mistake on. Also, I don't think Riho was really all the nervous performing with Moa and Su. By this time, she was already comfortable with crowds/fans, and she was already friends with Su and Moa, so I'm sure for the most part she felt fairly comfortable. Only reason I would possibly think she'd be nervous is making a mistake on the choreo, but even that is doubtful the girls put a LOT of work into everything they do. By the time it comes time to perform, I'm pretty sure its almost second nature for them. One thing you might find interesting is that they ALMOST used this song for the closing ceremonies of the Japanese Olympics that were held, but due to political reasons, the olympic planners where changed out and as a result Babymetal lost out on the chance. But you can look up Babymetal Shine Olympics and you get a pretty cool video. Not sure if that was the video they were planning on putting out during the closing ceremonies, but it's cool and well done either way.
