⚡ 💀 💕 / 🌟 🌟 🌟 '50s sock hop? That Ragtime piano break was more of a '90s thing. As in 1890's. Up until 1919 or so, when other forms of Jazz took over. 'Tales of the Destinies' and 'THE ONE' originated as one longer song, but were split up pretty early in the development process. On both the 'Metal Resistance' album and at this Tokyo Dome Red Night concert, the piano outro of 'Tales of the Destinies' flows right into the piano intro to 'THE ONE'. Although 'THE ONE' has become a standard in BABYMETAL setlists, this is still the only time 'Tales of the Destinies' has ever been performed live.

Dancers generally count their beats; Mikiko-sensei (their choreographer) talked about it once in an interview. She said Moa and Yui counted their beats like a normal dancer and learned their steps to the beats. Su however is differen't, Mikiko says "Su is crazy. She feels the music." Su doesn't learn the beats, she feels the song. Su also apparently adds in things on her own during performances. She will add something new, and when she comes off stage Mikiko will tell Su she liked it, and Su has no memory of what she did. If you watch Moa's left foot often keeps time.
@outwest10143 жыл бұрын
Damn now I'm going to be watching Moa's left foot all time. I watch all their MV's the same way. First the song, second watch the dancing, and then what the band is doing. Now Moa's left foot!!!
@paulbroady41413 жыл бұрын
I often wondered what she was doing with her foot.
@randumo243 жыл бұрын
It's not exactly a fair comparison. Su doesn't have to dance nearly as much, and you can't be "feeling the music" and adding random things when you're supposed to be mirroring someone else. It's not exactly surprising Su doesn't have to learn the beats, because she really doesn't perform difficult dance maneuvers. You make it sound like a brag about Su, but her dancing isn't anything special. It doesn't need to be in her role, but you shouldn't act like it. She's great at what she does,; you don't need to make her seem like more than she really is.

They do use a click track with iems. In a recent interview Su said that for this performance her iem malfunctioned and she performed the whole song without the click track. She also said that this song is so difficult that she does not believe they could perform it now.
@rickwagner-3 жыл бұрын
To add a bit more context, this is Su's full answer from that 2020 Kadokawa interview: "That song has no rhythm at all… well it’s there, but it’s not there (laughs). As such, the dance choreography was very difficult, and we spent a lot of time on it. As we practiced it over and over again I wondered if we could really perform it. And then… I can say this now, but I lost track of the sound about 10 seconds into the song, so I was completely lost for the first section, and it was a real source of regret. Tales is a really difficult song to perform, and I don’t know if I can perform it right now. I’m afraid to try because there’s a high possibility of failure, but at the same time, I still feel regrets and want to get my vengeance on it."

Fun fact: Tales of the Destinies is the hardest Babymetal song that the girls have to the choreograph and sing to, so this was only time they performed it at the Tokyo Dome. Su said in the 2020 KADOKAWA interview, she lost track going into 10 seconds of the song because the rhythm changes so many times and especially performing it at the Tokyo Dome, the sound keeps bouncing back and forth.

The only time they performed this jewel live. A clear homage to Dream Theater, with even a "ragtime gimmick" à la Jordan Rudess. Those guys could play whatever. The 2 shows at Tokyo Dome, 55000 people each night, everyone wearing a corset with a wifi light for the finale with "The One", amazing stage production. Before TotD, which was just before the finale, a version of Karate incredible, with the girls exhausted, soaked in sweat, even Su, but always performing 1000%, never givin'it up, you can't have no feelings for these girls, I really love them. This was done in the Red Night, the first concert, the one with Mikio Fujioka (in the second one Leda Cignus plays) because there was need for his abilities. Mikio, I don't know if you can see him under the logo, basically played the guitar parts without looking at the audience for a split second, always bent on the frets.

GREAT REACTION! This song was inspired by the band, Dream Theater, since Kobametal, BABYMETAL's producer, is a big Dream Theater fan. Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater said he was "BLOWN away" when he heard this song. BABYMETAL actually performed this song live ONLY once because it's just too crazy. Su said she was nervous before performing this song live...they all nailed it, as usual! Btw, this song actually transitions into "The One". Good reaction, but as has already been said you could have watched the version in the description that doesn't have the logo - the one with the logo is for you to put in your video on YT so it doesn't get blocked. For the continuation of the piano outro watch 'The One' from Tokyo Dome on that same channel as it leads into it ... and you'll see when all the crowds' neck braces lit up for the first time (and look for the link in the description so you don't have the logo on the one you watch). I don't think Moa was keeping time with her foot, she just has a bouncy left leg - watch any video of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' and keep an eye on her left leg, you will see what I mean. Again as already said, Su's in ear monitor failed pretty much as the song started, so she had no click track to go by ... you wouldn't know it from her performance.

BTW the 1rst Star Trek was ground breaking for having a multi ethnic cast on a top rated TV show during prime time; that also had serious anti war messages during the Vietnam War. Rumors were that it was cancelled because of govt. pressure. It was hugely popular and still cancelled. William Shatner's 1rst play was in a summer time camp for disadvantaged youth. They created a play about campers missing their parents. A very young Shatner said he knew immediately that he wanted to be an actor the moment he saw all of the tears in the audience. 1rst episode to watch is with the character Gem, The Empath. 12th episode of 3rd season; written by Joyce Muskat.💖☮💖☮💖 I doubt you guys will react to Star Trek original but it would make a great show for one of your friends.

I bought the Tokyo Dome DVD (Delorean) just for this and the bridge into "The One". The rest of the concert is awesome, but this is the only live performance of "Tales of The Destinies" and it's the height of Kobametal's art/artifice/showing off/seeing what he can get away with etc. It's a homage to Dream Theater, "The Dance of Eternity", even the two titles echo one another. This could have been a complete disaster if it wasn't written, played, sung and danced by people as talented as those connected with Babymetal. To so obviously reference another awesome piece of music and yet still be different and brilliant on its own takes a lot of skill...and either hubris or guts. So check out the sister song "Thw Dance of Eternity" from Dream Theater.

About the earpiece and click track, there are two reasons for that: Babymetal makes big use of backing tracks, and Su lip-synchs some, though not all, of concert setlists. In "Tales of the Destinies" and in some of their other songs, they use (at least) two synthesizer backing tracks: one makes a wall of sound, or ambient sound, and the other plays in unison or harmony with the guitar riffs and solos. You hear both in a big way on "Destinies". Also, given the fact that she's singing in front of a metal band playing at full blast, and having to dance her own choreography, there's no way Su can get through a two-hour or so concert setlist without a certain amount of lip-synching. Su doesn't have operatic training, though she has certainly had some vocal training and has good pitch and tone. Japanese music producers, including obviously Koba-metal, don't like "idol"-type singers to sing with vibrato and diaphram and abdominal control techniques. Among the other Japanese groups you've reacted to, you'll hear Saiki of Bandmaid and particularly Asami of Lovebites sing with those techniques.

great reaction and review! yeah they use a click but it's not functioning as a metronome but as only an alarm to tell the beginning of each segment of the song. imho it can't be a realiable beacon for them in this kind of song, a sorta storm of irregular time signature. in fact su lost the structure of the song at some point of this intricate song (yea in this very video, but i dunno where it is) and could get back relying on its unique snare drum pattern (said in an interview with her).

Good catch on Moa's foot keeping track of the beat. and LVT nailed the reason why. Su lost her in-ear monitor for this prior to them playing this, so without having the click track or backing track in her ear, she was going off of memory for the entire song: timing for choreography, time signature change, the entire lot. So Moa could have been providing the beat for Su to go off of for the dancing. For this being their most prog-metal song, she nailed it; didn't miss a beat, and no-one new that she was going off of memory.
