Handheld microphones not only have better quality audio but can also be moved near and far to produce different effects. If a singer has a temporary problem with her throat or vocal cords during a performance, the mic can be removed to solve the problem. Also, Su often points the mic at the audience to record the chanting sounds of the audience. But in my mind Su's handheld microphone is like the Queen's scepter. Su-metal is like a queen when holding a handheld microphone. Thanks for your great reaction.

Great reaction, thanks! And very good question about Su's mic! Her mic is another piece of BABYMETAL's iconic imagery and, in my opinion, it allows her to show clearly who the leader is. Also, her part of the choreo is affected by holding the mic. Not to mention "Headbanger" and all its implications... 😁 Think of it as a totem of power. It would be weird to see her without a mic. There is a part of "IDZ" music video when she is not holding the mic and there was no specific choreo for her left arm so, it looks "different". Suzuka even pointed out this on a commentary video. "The Legend" is an incredible song. Probably underrated but it means a lot. The little sax solo is a nice touch and it catches off-guard everyone. They have only performed it three times: the two BABYMETAL Returns and BABYMETAL Begins Black Night (all from the past era, closed in the end of Black Night) and never with Momoko because Suzuka, Moa (and Yui) are the legends. And they'll probably never play it again. The song actually closes the album and the entire era, so to speak. Until next time! 🤘🦊

👍 👍 Really great reaction. Divine. Yes. Like so many of their underrated and under appreciated shows songs (such as Time Wave) are (if you pay attention especially to the subtle instrumental and vocal nuances are beautiful. And of course the setting, stage and atmosphere is always epic in Japan. No one does it better and it may be why if I see them LIVE it must be in Japan.

Great reaction. Yes this was the first song of the Black Night concert - their last as a duo with Momoko performing as the Avenger. Also yes, that was a sax solo ... none of us expected to hear that.🎷🦊🎷 Funny you picked up on the nostalgia and then the new start feel of this song - 'The Legend' is referencing BABYMETAL as they were and the Black Night concert was about BABYMETAL (as they were) becoming a legend, a thing of the past to be looked back on, but all those past performances, all those legends are gone and can't be repeated - from here on they will be creating new performances, new memories. At the end of the concert Momoko was revealed as the third member of the "new" BABYMETAL - and the next night they played the Clear Night concert with Momometal finally all mic'd up and singing. Talking of microphones, Su uses the hand held mic (I assume) because it provides much better quality audio than the headset microphones used by Moa, Yui and now Momoko. They use the headsets because they are constantly on the move and dancing, so them having hand held mics would be impractical. Su dances a lot, but less so when she is singing hard.

Thank you for the explanations, as always and yeah that makes sense for the microphone. It's true, when she sings she doesn't move too much and focuses on her voice.

@@xsezz I saw them in London last night - Su-metal's vocals are unbelievably good - even the best videos don't do her justice and don't really prepare you for hearing her singing in person.

The hand microphone held by the Queen is said to be to seal the madness dance. When the microphone is removed from her hand and the seal is broken, the Queen's dance takes on another dimension of madness...😁

An other reason for the handheld microphone is because of those are much more 'directional', they pick up only what is in front of them, a tiny microphone strapped to your head are directional, they pick up audio from all directions and a Babymetal show isn't a quiet place. So the sound people actually have to work hard to let Moametal, Yuimetal, Momometal sound clear.

Also, Su-metal clings to her microphone like it's her life. And in some sense, Babymetal and singing is her life and without a microphone it wouldn't work. 🙂

She doesn't use a handfree mic because changing the distance to the microphone is part of professional singing. Handfree mic does not allow you to control the dynamics by changing the angle and distance. In addition, handfree mic does not have a good dynamic range and other qualities.

Su has been singing into a mic like that since she was a pre-teen, why change now, anyway this is the last performance of the duo of Su and Moa and if you had the subtitles on, the words are lamenting the path they chose and the Legends that they became, it might not get played again until Momo has become a Legend herself and then the three of them can perform it together, so if it took Su and Moa 10 years to become Legends, I guess they will play it again in 2033, which would be a lucky number for Momo...lol

So sad this song is leaving only for Japanese shows. Anyway it fits totally with the lore in term of lyrics and music.🦊🤘🔥 Btw I don't get your mic question, maybe another will answer what's your concern about it, isn't rare she's using the same type of mic if that's what you mean, a lot of singers use it, especially professionals.
@xsezz

The mic question is: Why isn't she using a hands free mic, like Moa? She does a lot of dance moves. Could be useful. I'm guessing she just got used to holding a microphone.

@@xsezz Oh I see, well she's been using this type of mic (even wired) since she was a toddler, I guess it all depends on the singer and training, certain vocal techniques requires hands mic 🎤 and there are things you couldn't do with a hands free mic, but if you have hardcore set of dance like MJ then I guess it's better a hands free, plus you'll get a lot of help with the backing track to catch your breath when you're tired, or just simply lipsync. SuMetal got the expertise of doing this singing live while doing some dance moves (not always dance, she stops when sings) but she's terrible at lipsync, love our queen.♥️
