My favorite piece of music, ever. I limit myself to listening to it lest I become dull in the ear. And the tempo is perfect. It’s not a competition between the violas.

yes I do the same with a lot of music because it becomes normalized to the ears.

I find myself never ever being sick of Bach. That is a beautiful quality of his music that some other composers lack (cough cough most of Mozart). If I were you I'd listen to this all the time. You'll never get tired of Bach's music, I promise.

Best Brandenburg solely because of instrumentation

It's the Brandenburg concerto with the simpliest instrumentation, just strings and harpsichord

It's almost like Bach invented syncopation - 300 years ago. Remarkable.

That A-flat in the violas around 0:25 is such a fascinating bit of chromaticism. It's coming from E-flat major, even though most of the chords surrounding that E-flat IV chord are happily in B-flat major. We get this brief moment where the E-flat we've been hearing as a IV is treated in the key of E-flat, only to immediately thereafter revert to A naturals in a dominant chord in the original key of B-flat.

In these concerti grossi, we can notice clearly Vivaldi's influence as Bach make unusual orchestration such as those that Vivaldi made for his set of Concerti Con Molti Stromenti.

Great tempi throughout. There is a temptation to play this too quickly.
@uncertainity1886 ай бұрын
The first movement needs to be slower, to around 70 bpm. I want to hear that counterpoint! Though the audio quality will be horrible, setting the playback speed to 0.75 will allow you to experience it as this tempo, that is, around 70 bpm.

At around 13:31 the first violin is not following the exact values written on the staff. I wonder why? I guess what he does sounds better than what it is written, but the notes are still the same.
