Being able to play the opening voiced that well without arpeggiation...his hands must be huge!
@markdougherty99173 жыл бұрын
Truly…for the average sized individual, if you are not comfortable with arpeggiated chords before learning this piece, you surely will be after xD
@nikb61762 жыл бұрын
There is zero reason not to use two hands for the opening if hand span is an issue, if anything it makes the voicing easier. Much of the passage work in this piece is difficult for a smaller span especially up until the D major choral section, we have all found our own way around the more awkward sections of this piece. No shame in using two hands for the opening. After all, it's not Brahms it is Busoni 😁

Stunning! Voicing is very beautiful. I actually am not sure why people are commenting on facial contortions. His seem no different to me than any other musician. Remember that a close up camera will capture things that wouldn't be seen as an audience member in a hall.

They are a distraction to concentrating on the music. See Arturo Benedetti Michaelangelli, hardly batted an eye-lid so the music was completely the focus of the listener. How he did that is an achievement in itself.

Beautiful performance. As a violinist, I am biased to having a preference with it played on the violin but wow 💕And btw, I love facial contortions (!) Continue being amazing. Thank you

There are so many extra/wrong notes that diminish what would otherwise be a stunningly stellar interpretation. The opening was the best I've ever heard, and then the extra notes started to creep in. Add to that the lack of any dynamic contrast and my disappointment started to set in, sadly.

A really harsh take! Quite rude and missing the point, if I may say so
@ianm81372 жыл бұрын
I prefer Helene Grimeaud because she has more " soul " in it and her performance is much more lyrical , fluent and melodic. This gentleman is a very accurate pianist but I don't feel he ever takes off ! I believe it takes a very special brand of pianist to get the balance of emotion and technical brilliance right in this work . I have to add that I am not a big fan of facial contortions when playing.
