the deeper you dig the more you will come to know no one was closer to bach than reger or busoni I think converting his organ music to the piano is a skill few are qualified to do, Liszt may have been the first to succeed

Is the picardian Chord (Major D) at the end of the Chaconne in the original Busoni transcription? Very bad. You can't do that. It changes the basis and core of the whole piece. Not right at all.

This may sound like heresy to some, but IMO none of Bach's monumental works for organ should have been transscribed for piano. They just don't pack the same punch on an instrument which has only one single keyboard.

There is much to the art of transcribing any work. "Punch" can be felt in many ways-therein lies much of the art of transcribing. Please think it over again and you will come to enjoy these works much more.

@@rsjmd I would be better able to enjoy the laudable pieces on this video/album if they were original works composed for the pianoforte. Being quite familiar with the organ works of Bach, however, I must say that that the piano transcriptions suffer (greatly) by comparison, in my estimation.

If not for Víkingur Ólafsson wonderful transcription of Organ Sonata No. 4, BWV 528: II. Andante [Adagio] I would never hear of it, not try to explore Bach's organ work, what I am doing now from time to time. Same for Sonate BWV 1034 - David Russell, guitar transcription of flute sonata. Transcriptions are a blessing. And you can always listen to the original work.
