Yes, the end part is played by using artificial harmonics (harmonics of fretted notes). The highest fretted note on a Fender Bass is an Eb, but the piece goes up to a high G. Sometimes limitations can be very inspiring ;-) Thank you for watching!

I like the way which I was criticized for myself, the tempo that lags which only enhances the beautiful composition. Love seeing someone do the same thing, I guess it was the baroque way, oh well. Not lack of keeping tempo but deliberately lagging it.

As a child and starting on the Bass I was given a short piece from Bach To learn with no clue as to where it came from or who has written it. Playing it I was sure it was from a Bassist I wasn't aware of yet. Bach To me always sounds like he was writing for the Bass guitar. It feels so familiar and comfortable yet has the " mathematics ' style of a tight Bass line. Beautiful is Bach.

It was written for the cello, and that's a bass cleft instrument, too. I'm trying to learn it on the cello.

Man, this just really amazes me. I started trying to learn this on my J bass a couple days ago, and I didn’t take into account that the register of the bass guitar wouldn’t really allow for the final stretch to be performed without a 5 string or extended techniques. I figured someone had tried it on four, and behold, not only was I right, but you absolutely knocked it out of the park!!!! The thumb position, the harmonics with your right thumb, everything was spot on!!! I would like to do my best and try and learn from this video, but honestly, the amount of thought and technical ability here is beyond me, and I don’t think half the people watching understand just how difficult this was. Well done, this video is honestly a paradise for bassists looking to play classical music on electric.

I’m in the same boat! Which sheet music are you following. I found most folks online use a 6 string to accomplish this so I was debating getting a 6 string for that very reason.
@jacksparr0w300 Жыл бұрын
Also how did you progress go? I see you posted a year ago, any advice?
@vanillabean3827 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksparr0w300 hey! I did end up learning this piece on four string, the ending is very unnatural feeling for me but was totally doable. I don’t recall which sheet music I used, I’m not the best sight reader so a lot of it I learned by ear. By far the hardest parts were the thumb position stuff and pinch harmonics, which took some getting used to. I was taking upright lessons at the time, so I was already familiar with the thumb position, but it took some practice to apply it to electric and it’s not very comfortable. Just do it over and over super slowly, that’s the best advice I have. The tone for the pinch harmonics is important or else they won’t ring, so I turned my bridge pickup up high and messed around with my mids to get a decent sound. It’s a challenging piece, but really fun and definitely doable! I watched this video a lot while I was learning and just tried to copy Fabian. Best of luck, hope this helped!

As you know, there are many KZbin videos of Prelude #1 on electric bass. I watch them all. I am not much of a bass fan, but I am a lifelong fan of J.S. Bach. Bach is rock! I think he would like your version. Excellent musicianship. As you also know, Bach's music did not include any notations as to tempo or volume and such. Your version was beautiful. Uniquely your own, yet true to the music as written. Bravo.

I've played this in D for years as I learnt it first on double bass from a well known transcription, but the addition of the artificial harmonics to make the ending possible in G on a Fender bass is a masterstroke. And just beautifully played, with great feeling and sensitivity. You really capture some baroque elements which probably shouldn't be possible on electric bass. its the only version on electric bass I've heard that I like.
