Bear in mind they have played here both the Bach double violin concerto and double piano concerto without music - entirely from memory. And yet in no sense is their playing mechanical - beautifully realised with both feeling and co-ordination. It just seems impossible at their age - particularly Alma at 10 years old.

I've always been a bit snobbish because I read E. Phillips Oppenheim's "The Pawns Count" when I was three. Alma Deutscher puts me in my place. For that matter, so does Miss Zhou.

Rosemary Isabel Brown (27 July 1916 - 16 November 2001) was an English composer, pianist and spirit medium who claimed that dead composers dictated new musical works to her. She created a small media sensation in the 1970s by presenting works purportedly dictated to her by Claude Debussy, Edvard Grieg, Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Igor Stravinsky, Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Alma plays like a composer. Even if her technique is not as "refined" as the most acclaimed performers, I would rather listen to her because her musicality *more* than makes up for it. She plays classical music how it ought to be played: not like a sport or like a game, but like actual music. I am sick of how our culture treats classical music as a holy relic which must only be polished and preserved, rather than as something alive. Only people who 'speak music' can play and compose and improvise like she does, and while she may be exceptional, I think we have done a terrible job at nurturing talents like hers. I think there would be more Almas (and more Bachs and Mozarts and Beethovens) if our musical education system was not so intent on destroying everything that is beautiful and exciting about music. Performing and composing weren't always such distinct things, and in the times when there were many great composers it was expected of a musician to be musical enough to do both! (even if they favored one or the other). Performance technique was in the service of music, rather than an end unto itself (I'm looking at you, Yuja Wang). And compositions were expected to be beautiful, or pleasing, rather than being militantly ugly. What is more timeless, more difficult, and more valuable that making a work of true beauty??? I will never understand how the world of classical music has managed to convince themselves that it is their sacred duty to uphold ugly trash as 'high art' while repressing and demeaning anything with the faintest trace of 'likability' as being somehow naive or unworthy of serious considerations. They just don't have the ability to make anything good and they don't have the balls to admit it. I'm sick of how we all have to say that 'nothing is objectively better than anything else'. How can you seriously convince yourself of such a position after hearing something as singularly amazing as this? Anyone who actually says shit like that deserves to be forced to listen to nothing but 'contemporary classical' for the rest of their lives.

Love Arie Vardi for how he talks of the music, why this concert is unique and not of how marvellous Tanja and Alma are. Just calling them for what they are: wonders. Miracles. In the interview, he does not talk down to them for being children. That takes my respect too. For, these supertalents deserve to be taken seriously. I am amazed how intelligently both girls comment on their own music making, this makes me sure their musicality is far beyond what I can grasp.

These girls are so talented and so humble in their interviews. They speak like adults. Thanks to our great country we no longer have music programs in school and parents dont encourage their children to take music, maybe cheer leading, soccer, football. Now there is nothing wrong with these activities but classical music creates such maturity, and happiness in the person. Look at these girls, such poise, such vocabulary. humility, joy, quite impressive. And to see the older student taking the younger one under her wings, how beautiful is that.

I’ve always thought I lived in a three dimensional world, but after listening to these two prodigy’s discuss their music, I realise there is a unique fourth dimension. Yes,I can hear and feel the music, but clearly these two geniuses are breathing the air of a different realm altogether. Listening to Alma, you get a glimpse of something so special, it must take another talent on the same level to truly appreciate it. I am not, in general, an envious person, but in this case, I wish I had the same insight she has. Their playing and interview was truly remarkable and mesmerising. Wish them both the very best.

Whenever I hear such wonderful music made by young folk, part of me always wonders how many beautiful minds have been lost to history. Simply because of their gender. (or their status or their color) They never got a chance to speak to us like this. One good thing about modern times is that people like Alma have a much better chance to develop and share their gifts. I appreciate that. And I hope that she has a bright and rewarding future.

Just try to imagine a child, and a girl at that, ever being given credence to become a star, a musical genius, an accepted talent in her own right in centuries gone by. No more ‘barefoot and pregnant’ remarks or mindset anymore! Alma has arrived. Tania has arrived! They are the new queens of womanhood. Long live clever girls and women! Can anyone explain these "Two Wonders" ? Here we have two Little Girls performing at a level which can fill accomplished musicians with envy. Moreover, here we have two Little Girls from two different worlds united by and through music. Not only belongs their performance to a different age range, but also their articulateness and their analysis of the structure of the musical pieces they perform are in contrast to the Little Girls they are. As with Einstein, has "Nature" endowed them with a different brain structure ? And if so, how did it happen ? Last, but by no means least, I would like to point out the skillfulness and sensitivity with which Arie Vardi treats these young ladies. To me, watching this performance was a sheer delight.

The second piece I recognized instantly, it is in its first version for oboe and violin. Weird combination, yet this will be the most beautiful music I know of. Don't have words for how it touches me, not like, heavenly music but rather how happily easy the two instruments play with each other. This version for two pianos is not as pregnant, it doesn't bring me to tears. But still sounds amazingly well. It just is more peaceful like, inviting to listen better. I forget while listening what a miracle it is, these young girls are able to play and grasp this music. I love to be amazed by them.

So this composer kiddo is also a concert pianist already? Men... I feel dumb. I feel neglected by God. I feel I’m just an unsuccessful byproduct of God’s creation.

Are you and Tanja Zhou friends in real life or do you just play together?

I don't think the girls actually read these comments; but they are obviously 'new' friends, who clearly get on well together, and respect each others skills. Tanja was 18 here, and Alma, only 10 years old,.

Tanja is 18 now, but was only 15 for this performance. They also performed a concerto for two violins together. They seem to connect well together.

At her concerts I see many old and middle aged people. Why not only children to expose them to this kind of music??????????

Kalman Brin (guest). Some say harpsichord music should not be played on the piano. My view is, 1) sublime music is strong enough to transfer...and 2), I think Bach would have loved the modern piano, or even might have preferred it !

but in the end - they both played the notes written down - not a difficult piece at all. But yes they both gave it some depth. Tanja has a different finger style....Alma glides, Tanja more of a pecking looking which is how she would have been taught. I think the difference we see is that between performer and composer - who have a different interest in the music.

absoftitanium .(guest). Yes, and I hope it lifts the spirits of many others who might be depressed by all the cruelty and negativity in this dark world. If only more people could experience the deep joy that phenomena like this give, to those sensitive enough to appreciate them ( that's us ) 😊😊😊😊😊😊.
