Bach - Die Kunst der Fuge, BWV 1080 - Contrapunctus 1

It has been a while since I recorded any Bach, save for some transcriptions. In a previous life I recorded the entire Art of Fugue, but I was never satisfied with the result and thought it was now time to give this towering work a second chance. This new recording of Contrapunctus 1 replaces a very old video of it, which for some reason I had failed to delete. It is played entirely without pedal, as is the recommended practice for Bach on the piano.

Wow - what a superb performance, Chris. I am in awe of the way you made each lead voice of the subject be prominent as the fugue developed. Incredible artistry for certain: bravo!

Thank you Graham ! I don't know about superb, but I think I got the voicing right this time. My recordings are not going to rub shoulders with those of the great pianists, but in any case this is one I need not be ashamed of. Of course this one is relatively easy, compared to the challenges ahead 😳
