I love your detailed, clear analysis and beautiful demonstrations. You explain these great works with such joy and elegance. This is so valuable for students and cello teachers like me who are introducing the Bach Suites to young Cellists.

Courante as a "running" movement is a very common misunderstanding. The real French Courante is a much slower stately dance style and it is almost always confused with the Italian Corrente, which is the real "running" dance.
@ligetisspaghetti57632 жыл бұрын
Bach wrote his courantes in a more Italian style
@RobManser776 ай бұрын
French courantes are typically in 3/2, such as the one in the 5th suite. This (1st suite courante) and the other courantes are in 3/4 and longer in nature, indicating the Italian “running” style.

What a great idea differentiating the two voices on this movement. This is such a great video! I am studying this now. This is tricky! Some rhythms and passages are particularly hard to phrase. Measures 11 and 12 are interesting rhythms that kind of repeat on measure 14 and 15 (except that in 14 and 15 the slurred notes working as a "drone" alternate with a crescendo scale); I try to emphasize these measures. The lowest Ds and Cs are interesting to emphasize (especially on measure 35). I am still working on my bow distribution (I run out of bow on measure 17, very annoying!). Thanks for posting this, observing your impeccable method is helping me resolving little problems here and there. Also, this is such a fun piece so I am trying to have a perky, happy body language to accompany it! 🙏🏽🎶❤️

this is a great lesson, you play it very well (and quick!). I got more out of the lesson when i slowed it down to 75% but a great launching pad when learning the tune for the first time! I love that KZbin feature! thanks!

this was beautiful! I’m playing this for an auditon, I’m wondering, how can you get rid of performance anxiety/stage fright? 😖
@Inbalsegevcello5 жыл бұрын
Daniela Wise , I still get nervous before performances but I learned to control this anxiety. Try to arrange for as many run- throughs as you can before a concert. Use every opportunity to play in front of your colleagues, family and friends. The more often I perform, the easier it gets. You can also ask your doctor to prescribe a Beta Blocker ( I think that’s how it’s called?) I took some low dose about 10 years ago and it helped me get through a rough stretch. Then I didn’t feel I needed it any more. Many performers take something to alleviate the stage fright. No shame in it, as long as you take it in small quantities and only occasionally.

This class is amazing! You just gave me a newfound clarity on what Bach is doing with the two voices. This piece is one I have always loved, but today you have reinvented the way I listen to this piece. Inbal Segev? Thank you so much. I am subscribing, and I am sharing your video to my listeners as well. I'm practicing and I'm transposing this score to treble clef right now! Be well

Thank a lot for your prompt reply on my inquiry. I play the Cello and am so impressed by your performance of Bach on KZbin Then, I like to know your view on adoption of Magdalena copy score for the performance among varieties of versions. I am looking forward to hearing of you. Thanks again.

carcassi 1778 Thanks! I have not studied the editions and other interpretations of the AMB score because I like using the source and getting to my own conclusions. So I have my own marked copy. As a teenager I played from Barenreiter ( Wenzinger) but I find it to be simplified at best and inaccurate.

Can you trust Magdalena copy score? Especially Atticulation (Boeing)?
@Inbalsegevcello6 жыл бұрын
carcassi 1778 not blindly but generally yes. It makes a lot of sense most of the time and is more reliable than Kellner’s copy.
