This was emotional for me ... bear with me ... I couldn't really play keys as a youngster listening to John Lord but was a musician learning to play synthesisers in a 1980's pop world (too young for Deep Purple first time round). I said I could play a bit and learned to listen whilst listening to John Lord .... but was really a hack. I got pretty good and stopped recording electronica a while back and started learning to play and got hooked on Bach along the way ... totally self taught, non music reader, but I taught myself this Bach prelude in D minor. This has astounded me. I seem to have met John coming backwards with you guys. I play this piece regularly now that I have learned to play piano properly and realise that you and I have tapped into the same key understanding of his roots. I just heard him playing with Whitesnake and really dug it ... but then I played with a rock band covering Bon Jovi and recorded Jazz electronica as a want-to-be player. Then I learned to play. When I learned to play ... I learned Bach - ands most specifically this piece for some reason. When I hear you playing this it chokes me emotionally - we''ve both come at John from different perspectives (man - I've played a lot of single note deep house music in the past, but still of reasonable quality according to those listening ) - but we've ended up in the same place interpreting what he loved and gave us. I play this piece - at speed - almost daily, and I totally hear him - and you now ... (and always probably Ray Manzarek - it's unavoidable). It's a beautiful inevitability when I hear the roots of it all. Thank you so much for this . A perhaps inevitable evolution ☺

I think the Tender Babes intro and outro works really well actually. This was a lot of fun. I'm surprised how much recognition Before I forget is getting on KZbin after all this time. I bought it new on vinyl when it came out and still have it.

I loved the drum sounds, maybe more of a rock kit than jazz though
@ThePaulv126 ай бұрын
It originally had drums. It's off the Jon Lord solo album Before I forget. Simon Philips drummed on Bach Onto This. The intro on this vid was also track off the album called Tender Babes, which Cozy Powell drummed on. Bach Onto This was different to the arrangement in this vid hence medley in the title. The drumming was integral to this track. This track 'remembers' Deep Purple's Concerto for Group and Orchestra album perhaps.
