What amazes me is that as I sit here, in my backyard, on this beautiful sunny morning, listening to one of my favorite pieces of music on my iPhone, is that 20 years ago, when I bought my house, I never could have imagined being able to do such a thing. The iPhone didn’t exist. KZbin didn’t exist. Even the extraordinary, accomplished, enviable Jan Liebermann didn’t exist! What wonders await 20 years from now?

In about one week's time, it will the great Bach's 337th birthday. I think how poor the world was before Bach, and how poor my life would be without him. Thanks to the marvelous Jan Liebermann for giving me this moment to ponder the imponderables!

Bach is the gift of musical genius to mankind,, compositions such as this masterpiece of complexity exhibit this. The fact that Jan is able from memory articulate this piece with such command and beauty is it's own gift!!

Solid style and structure - plus a sense of the great arches already whilst maintaining always contrast and interest : you obviously believe in what you defend and do : the highest tradition of Sacred Music. Please, Germany, grant us - through such talented kids - a renewed renaissance of unashamed Creativity, bold Genius and glorious Beauty in Music, as before... Soli Deo Gloria ! (now I'm being a bit lyrical, but it's needed...)

Amazing playing! It is very difficult to employ sensitive phrasing in a fast tempo, and you do this beautifully. Memorization makes it possible. You know the music inside out, so you get out of the way and allow Bach to play and teach through you. You become part of the instrument of Bach. It’s a profound experience for this listener.

Jan, your technique is fantastic, but I would urge you to slow down just a bit and focus on phrasing and articulation rather than sheer speed. Just because you can play amazingly fast doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Best of luck to you!

This gentleman, being a young organist, has many years to develop into a seasoned concert organist. Right now he is playing as he was trained. Time will bring out his interpretations. In America, there are too many organists who play Bach like robots (mechanical, without expression, trying to show virtuosity by playing fast). I do feel a resurgence of young organists, especially in the Netherlands and Germany. Hopefully they are well trained by some fine teachers who will instill in these organists quality techniques, appropriate organ registrations that fit the music, and fitting tempos that allow the listeners the opportunity to appreciate the inner voices and intricacies that composers like Bach were so crafted to add beauty to their pieces.

Agree. You are 100% correct. Way too fast. Messy.

I like the tempo
@RogerFleischer-p3f5 ай бұрын
The "inner clocks" of audiences are running much faster than in Bach's time, the younger the faster. Jan's tempi will probably slow as he ages, but I would encourage hims to experiment with slower tempi but continue to follow his own feelings as a soloist.

Just a bit too fast. At this speed and with this acoustic the detail is sometimes a little muddy, especially in the fugue. I hate to be critical because the technique is truly dazzling.

Too fast. Just sounds rushed and misses articulation and shape
