I have to chuckle a little bit reading your comment. The origin of the phrase "pulling out all the stops". You control a pipe organ using "stops" and when all stops were pulled out, the organ would play the loudest it is possible for it to play. And this is a song that was originally written for the organ. I'm not sure of a more appropriate choice of phrasing that you could have used.
